How we could improve..
by V J Lawrence on Nov 03, 2006 11:57 AM

Sir,
Our cricket team needs to learn a lesson or two from the West Indies. They are a team who are winning with only one star ,Brian Lara .All the others are players who chip in their mite when the situation demands so.Look at the way they systematically decimated powerful teams like Australia, India ,South Africa on their way to the finals. Whereas we have several superstars who flop in crucial matches. The brand endorsing stars performances are mediocre. If players like Raina who inspite of playing for hardly 6 months in the national team are accorded star status what should be the position of players like S Chanderpaul.Being in the team for more than a decade,he is still the same warhorse who performs consistently without any airs around him. This is the attribute of most other Windies players.I believe the advertising contracts have killed the cricketing skills of many young Indian players. The cricketing board should forget the lucrative contracts for some time and plan for the players to hone up their cricketing acumen
