Chappel-Ganguly Stand-off
by AK Singh on Sep 28, 2005 11:28 AM

The Review Committee has resolved the dispute in a typical Indian manner, where the main issue remains untouched and the parties involved are seen shaking hands. Recently, another set of wise men resolved a similar dispute between Advani and Khurana in the same manner.

The main issue is; and even John Wright echoed this: that the players in the team are not selected on merit. Chappel simply added that this applies even to the Captain.

Take the case of Sachin Tendulkar. The guy has not touched a cricket bat in months, and yet he found himself into the BCCI team, before he actually started net practice. The guy has a proven record of failures in hours of crisis. Should we not ask him to prove his match fitness before considering him for a place in the national team?

With the captain himself coming from a 'reserved quota', no one can question the inclusion of Tendulkars and Harbhajans.
