Those who recall India's win in 1983, it was a series of fluke and not talent that won that world cup. Remember, Kapil Dev and not the Indian team saved India from a defeat from Zimbawe, which turned the fortune.

no fluke can give a cup.. understand that .. fluke:-accident,coincidence,or stroke of luck .never happens in all 11 or 12 matches... we have the bad habit ..if one performs you praise the fluke..when one fails we curse the one.1983 was and is a daimond in our cricket crown ,never ..stain that please. And I think it we have to wait for 2083 ,for the same fluke to hug the Indian Team.Remember Kapil was one of the best all rounders India ever had .And we dont have any such all rounders in India now.History has shown all rounders have won matches and not the fluke.
Too early to predict his ability. Bangaldesh defeated only India (of course Bermuda) and reached second round. Coach is not neaed to defeat INDIA. India can loose any match at any day. There are talks of hiring Tom Moody or Whatmore as Indian Coach. If Moody or Whatmore had been the coach of INDIA and Chappel is coach of Lanka or Bangladesh the result would be the same. India won the cup in 1983 without any coach. All such analysis are useless when it comes to Indian Team. Indian team never performed well in any of the Major tournaments. Only excemption is 1985 Benson and Hedges Trophy. That team is real a great One-day team of INDIA and is not lost any single match in that tournament. So coach is irrelevant. Now BCCI has so much money so it is spending on coaches and other thisngs not on cricket at grassroot level.

Cricket has moved on since our victory in 1983. If we use the same tactics as 1983 or for that matter that used in 2003 failure is gauranteed!
With teams trying get every possible advantage over their opponents with video analysis, psychological advantage and having the right attitude, the game has moved on from a straightforward battle between bat and ball.
It is so evident how Australia have moved on since 2003, when India displayed their best form. We cannot expect a captain to do video analysis and building attitude while training. Therefore we need a coach, who will shoulder the burden with the captain.

There are not much players around who knows cricket more than Chappel in the world. If India lost it is because of its stars and not because of a great player like Chappell. Give power of selecting players to Chappell and he will show what he is capable of. And after tying his hands and telling do this and will not do India any good. Srilanka and Bangladesh has improved because they gave Whatmore more freedom than India gave Chappell.
Nobody will ever deny the role of a mentor behind the success of an individual or a group. One can fill an empty glass not a glass already filled. B'desh players are eager to learn and therefore Mr. Whatmore able to teach them the lessons but the case in India is quite different. So, our players should first empty their mind with the previously conceived ideas so that they can digest the advice and I hope then only they can perform well.

very well said. the problem with our players are that they think they are super stars. no body is bigger than the game. lot of blame is to be given to the media cause they are the ones that make the cricketers feel the same. its probably our culture
selectors shud reconsider keeping chappel..rather they shud gun for whatmore....as coach, he is more credible than chappel. see the records with diff countries.

Even if the thought seems far fetched at present, Bangladesh should win the world cup. Its time the established countries stopped looking down their noses at others. Once they too were minnows. Everyone just crumbles before Australia without a fight. High time a Bangladesh or Ireland upset all calculations.
