FOOTBALL THE BEST
by simply on Mar 29, 2007 12:00 PM  Permalink

India went down fighting to higher-ranked Korea 0-2 in their third second round match of the 2008 Beijing Olympic football qualifiers in Chennai, on Wednesday.

In an improved performance, India held the upper hand during the first 45 minutes during which the Korean goal survived anxious moments.

In the opening minute itself, Mumbai's ONGC star Tarif Ahmed threatened to score with a superb solo run.

India had lost the earlier two matches -- 0-3 to Iraq (Amman - Feb 28) and 0-1 to Thailand (Chennai %uFFFD Mar 14)

Thereafter, Salgaocar's Rocus Lamare almost scored but his left-footer, following a combined move by East Bengal's Syed Rahim Nabi and Tarif, missed the mark, the ball going inches past the cross bar.

With the teams crossing over, the Koreans changed their pattern of play while the Indians continued to attack only with long rangers and rarely went into the box to target the goal.

Eight minutes into the second half, Korea attacker Pak Nam Chol made full use of a free ball, sped down to the left of the box and his brilliant left-footer yielded the desired result.

Encouraged by the lead, the visitors kept piling pressure in the Indian area. One such move resulted in a 'penalty kick' but Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Subrata Pal brought off an acrobatic save off Choi's powerful shot.

However, the Koreans increased the lead in the 76th minute, when Jong Su Hyok collected a tailor-made cross by substitute Kim Kwang Hyok and beat Subrata Pal hands down.

by Atal Advani on Mar 29, 2007 11:56 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

why are these shameless cricketers gettin police protection what have they done to deserve such high security with the help of tax payers money ....why should India forgive these shameless people who ruined indias name in te world and then they are roaming around with heads held high.....i think such high security should not be provided using our money...the politicians, cricketers, media are all brothers of the same immoral mother called GREED and they are all thrying to protect each other but let me warn you the day the PUBLIC TAKES MATTERS IN THEIR OWN HANDS all you immoral cricketers, politicians and media will suffer a painful end

...I must thank rediff from the bottom of my heart to provide someone a platform to put my views in .....this is a very dignified process for bringing change in India...this platform is the one that provides me the stage to express myself ....lets me practice my fundamental right to expressing my views on BCCI and i thank rediff ......this is what makes India the greatest country in the world ...freedom of expression, democracy ....this is why I love india so much and feel bad when the BCCI villans go abroad and have fun with our money and then not only cheat us but disgrace us.

Let us be positive.

In the game always winning is not possible. The hype is created by the media. Once windies were winning, Australians are doing now, Indians have done in the past and it is History. Let us follow the method of Australians. Let us appreciate Bangladesh, the Day they defeated India, that day the Bangladesh was in form and they are coming up. Give a thought once upon a time Srilankans were like Bangladesh. Let us not blame. Let us hope for next world cup. S.PURUSHOTAM

any one want a bet when i say the present team will not last 50 overs even today if they play against the 1983 world cup winning indian team.

i am serious any bets.

i feel ashamed i spend lots of sleepless nights watching these indian good for nothing models play.

i think bcci should not allow these donkeys to play any more international cricket until they get their basics right by playing domestic cricket.starting from some local schools then promote them if required to ranjis.

hope you guys agree

We peoplr never bother about the performance og india in olympics or football or even with our national game hockey. These games are also full with energy and entertainment. It seems that we are not a sporty nation at all..
