First sack all the ex cricketers voicing their opinion!
by natraj tanjore on Mar 28, 2007 11:59 AM  Permalink

Hi guys, i am forty four years old and has been following indian cricket since the age of 9. My first exposure to cricket and cricket commentary was the india's tour to west indies in 1971. Since then the indian story is same! Snatching defeat from jaws of victory! Also the team is plagued with lots of bad luck - Plenty of times bad umpiring,(Sachin in Australia in 1999, Indian Team chasing 436 in 1979 at the oval) interpretation of rules - awarding joint cup in the champions trophy twice with srilanka, one can go on and on! The fact of the matter is that this is a team comprising of many languages, many states with diverse background and it is going to take a hell of an effort to jell as one. The experts who are waxing eloguent and advising have themselves been guilty of the rash shots and fishing out side the off stump! one can see the wonderful display of bowling of bishen bedi, batting of Mr.Gavaskar / Manjrekar / Sidhu! Mr. Sidhu thinks he is great with his sidhuical nonsense, but where was his committment when he walked mid way throught the tour of England? The blessing in disguise was the advent of Ganguly and Rahul who could get a place in the team because of the void created by MR. Siddhu! Guys, the indian team will be always temperamental, and would do exactly opposite of the conventional wisdom and will embarrass the pundits when they root for it as well as when they write it off!

Finally a word for the brothers mark and steve waugh and the western media! They claim they are very down to earth and they are more of a team player and indians are individualistic! fine Thats the way indians are genetically built! Also waugh brothers have problem when Ganguly and co dont carry their bags and have porters / bellhops carry them! So what? They also complain indians are poor travellers and cant adjust to alien conditions! Poor mate, its you and your buch of aussies who crib about food (Shane warne carrid cartosn of baked beans and bread on tours to india)and the pitch when you sorely lose on indian soils! You will find indians settled in every nook and corner of the world, what about the aussies? The point i am trying to make is that when i dont fall in line with aussie / western way of thinking / playing cricket, i am a poor cricketer, if i cant play on fast track of perth i dont know my cricket, but if i am bamboozled by the harbhajan doosra on the chennai / calcutta pitch - the pitch is doctored to indian conditions / harbhajan's hand is bending more than warranted! come on guys, give the team a break! The guys will bounce back! Actually the selectors who havent wielded the bat in their life ( sharad pawar, dr nerurkar, amin, nanavati) are the guys who must be sacked forthwith and only cricketers with atleast 25 test match and 50 odi experience should be put in!

More - The Culprit
by on Mar 28, 2007 11:59 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Many congratulations Mr. More for ruining Indian cricket almost single handedly. This world cup result was a foregone conclusion once the uninspiring Dravid became captain and the players started doing more endorsements. All are out to seek individual glory and save their asses. When will we learn to play as a team and for the country?

More Tu Ja Re
by Arnab Goswami on Mar 28, 2007 11:58 AM  Permalink

Why is More getting so sentimental about Dravid and Chappel. I guess its "Birds of the same feather flock together." I don't understand why media even airs his views. What is his claim to fame in the World of Cricket..

Anyway discounting More's opinion it'll be criminal if Chappel and Dravid are not stripped of their positions. Chappel never really understood the team. The reason for Indian success in the 2003 World Cup was that the team bonded as a unit and had the urge to win. To transfer that urge and feeling of oneness their has to be a motivational leader which Dravid definetly lacks.. I am not even talking about Chappel as he was a nightmare, a disease for Indian cricket whom we need to do away with. Same is the case with Kiran More. I hope he has earned enough to keep him quiet about cricket for the rest of his life. That would be a blessing for Indian Cricket.

Now coming back to who'll lead the team? We need a captain who is young, understand and plays the game well, leader enough to take the pains to build the team from scratch, someone with whom the younger lot can identify with and can lead the team for atleast the next 5 years. Hence it'll be foolhardy to handover the job to a Tendulkar or a Ganguly both of them should start planning for retierement within a year. They were the best we can't see them wilting down. Let them declare there retirement a season ahead and play to win all the matches they play since then. They deserve that much.

In the meantime DESERVING YOUNG PLAYERS should start getting exposure to international cricket.

Now the question is What happens to Chappel and More?

Chappel can go back to australia and start coaching the Australian team. Kiran More can join him as the Assistant Coach:-) I am sure that'll be the end of Australian glory

If we take the this team in 2011 we will be defeated by bermuda as well
Boss do you know cricket or you also belong to the same emotional set of fans
We lost the world cup everybody knows...but dont treat the cricketers like terrorists .In India we have enough things to protest against ..why dont we protest against so many problems India is facing today .
Cricket is just a sport ...and i understand its a religion in India...dont hype things so much ..when the team left as Pawar said there were chanting, praises even the priests of the temple performed different poojas..we unnecessarily hype things..expect too much.
Indian team has to work hard ...i would blame the players first and then the officials.
Criticising the players doesnt work out lets work out on a solution and there are people who are working on it.
Past is past ...If India loses with a total new look team in future another set of people will start criticising ..that we needed experience people...We need to find a winning combination who can win matches.
This world cup there are a lot of things we can talk about ...that goes on a never ending conversation ..better lets all wait for a solution

Dravid's comments -

Batting : we were playing well, the boys were connecting it well in the middle but the school boys were very energatic and fielded well.

Bowling : our boys were bang on the target, but evrytime some bat was there and they scored.

Fielding : our fielding was electrifying. No one missed any ball to cross him, but due to bad placement none had a chance to field any.

Indian team selection is not on perfomance .
by Bob Seth on Mar 28, 2007 11:56 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The indian team consists of 3 players who is the favourite of the selectors, 3 of the BCCI president, 3 of the captian, 3 of the coach. there is no place for perfomance , form etc. In fact rahul dravid has to be blamed for indias humilating defeat, he forced the inclusion of sehwag who was totally out of form as stated by vengsarkar and we got defeated by bangladesh. we indians have been taken for a ride by our polictcians , the police, the judicary now we have this cricketers. all indians should collectively stop using any prodcut endorsed by any playing 11 cricketer.lets hit them back where it hurts.

a radical change has to be made in the selection process where there is no favourtism. Chappeel commented that the seniors did not allow the younger lot to play, sreesanth was not even allowed to play for one single match.maybe it was dravid sehwag and sachin . Secondly we should keep polticians like sharad pawar out of the game else it will be another story of favourtism ,cheap politcis and money making. why dont we have a system where in the perfomance gurantees a slot in the indian playing 11 and not being close to the selectors, kiran more was the centre of controversy some years back where in he was charged for demanding favours / money in turn for a place in the Indain 11. we can have a simple system in place where in we have 5 team s India west, north, south east and central play league matches and the top performing 10 batsmen and 10 bowlers are taken into the final list. The playing 11 should consist of the best 6 batsmen and the best 5 bowlers and after every match the perfomance is reviewed by measurable metrics and the player who cannot deliver is put on the bench and the next player is offered an oppurtunity. I memn in short a team which is slected only by perfomance and not becasue of chamachagiri to the BCCI president, coaches and selectors .
