batsman letdown captain and betray the team
by on Mar 29, 2007 06:44 PM  Permalink

Winning or defeat in matches depends on performance of XI players irrespective of captain, coach, pitch, stretagy and conditions. Bangladesh and SL victory against India is best example
It is not dravid but gnaguly sachin harbjanand dhoni should be out of team.
some players delieberatley palyed negative cricket and dtiched dravid.and betrayed team. If players are not ready to support team cause what capatain can do for that It is up to individual players to deciede that play for team then support captain? why did not criticse harbajans bowling wktless in 2 games
sachin complete failuer with bat
dhoni faile in batting and was laughing after dropping catch,
ganguly is main culprit played a big role in defeat and took revengae agaisnt dravid and chappel he could not have got big event like WCganguly wasted more balls than the runs he scored. The strikerate and average of bangadesh and other country opening players are better when compared to ganguly averagel
His poor fielding and poor running wkt and unwilling to take singles cost more runs to team also created pressure on batsman on other side
Yuvraj Scored 47 runs in 10 overs
Rest of team scored 50 in 19 overs
Against burmada he scored 89 in 114 balls wasted 25 balls that is around 4.6 runs per over... compare it to the indian teams average of 8.26
Ganguly was struggling while batting against burmuda, and got 3 lifes
Tendulkar scored a duck, Ganguly 7 in 23 balls and Yuvraj 6? Dhoni 0?( match against srilanka)
All is these playrs contributed to team defeat why u blame coach and captain only. I

He should have announced his retirement, before the world cup, so that someone else like Powar would have got a chance. His bowling is monotonous and predictable unlike what it was 10 yrs ago.

droping kumble in 1 dayers or intest matches.
by pramod gole on Mar 29, 2007 02:12 PM  Permalink

He should have been dropped, since he is not in a best of from, he can only take the wickets of
tailenders, before giving 50 to 60 runs. Why
Ramesh powar has been droped, you may say kumble
world class but when out of form no use. Now it is high time you have to say good bye to kumble, if is not opting VRS from cricket.

SACHIN - RETIRE NOW
by rajendra agrawal on Mar 29, 2007 12:47 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Please have guts to announce your retirement - as others do not have guts to retire you compulsorily.
In this way, you will be emulating your worthy contemporary - Steve Waugh.
We'll also like to remember your past glories rather than your present shame.
In any case, you're not playing for the game any more, but only for the moolah !
Wish you all the best in your new commercial ventures - sans cricket.

WHY BLAME CAPTAIN ?????
by Benedict Fernandes on Mar 29, 2007 11:58 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

India should have easily beaten Bangladesh irrespective of batting first or second, Captain goes for a toss and what he says about batting first or fielding first depends upon the collective team decision, after all we had the so called experience in the team. The team lost because of complacency and they paid a heavy price for it. SACHIN is still a great player but he should know that its time to retire gracefully at-least from one day cricket so is Saurav and make way for young blood who are toiling in domestic cricket....Bring in John Wright as coach as he fits in Indian coaching system "taking the bullying of Indian players quietly". Greg Chappel is actually a best coach but the problem was he just did not fit our system where the politics is main Game. He did one best thing to remove arrogant Saurav, but it was too much as we Indians don't have that knack to foresee the future. Look what happened to Steve Waugh he was in good form but he was made to retire and Steve Waugh was the best captain of Australians. It is our administration which has to be changed, not the players.

by Shark on Mar 29, 2007 12:15 PM  Permalink
After reading your mail, I think there should be 11 captains instead of one because as you have suggested it is a collective failure.
Mr Benedict, captain is somebody who is there to take decisions, who has powers, who is above them all - he's there to take the responsibility of a Win & of a Loss that's why he's the Captain. If he can't take the responsibility then he should be a normal team member & not more than that.

A captain is only as good as his team. However, there have been certain decisions taken by the Indian think tank which were baffling to say the least. A few instances -

1. offering first strike to England in the Bombay Test.
2. Dropping Kaif after he had saved India the blushes against England.
3. Pushing Dinesh Karthik down the order in the second innings of the 3rd Test against South Africa, when he had done so well as opener in the 1st innings.
4. Taking first strike against Bangladesh in the World Cup when there was a lot of moisture in the wicket.
5. Persisting with Sehwag despite continuous failure, Ganguly came back better after being dropped, why make Sehwag an exception.
6. Picking and not playing Pathan. This has been the case for the last six months. If the Management had lost confidence in him, the least they could have done is sent him to play domestic cricket.
7. Dropping Ganguly from the Test side when he had not exactly failed.

All this defies logic. Most of these decisions seemed premeditated or an inability to take a hard decision.

However, one does not know if there were other forces at work behind theses decisions

Hi Balaji,
I wish to add " historical blunders of Indian cricket"
1. Concept of zonal selectors, instead coach should select team like in soccer, rugby etc.. common sense suggests coach should be in charge of selection.
2. Poor infrastructure across country.
3. Removing Kapil from captaincy, we should have persisted with him for long.
4. Firing captain immediately after a series loss, this ruined careers of Ravi shastri, Kriss Srikanth, Vengsarkar atc..
5. Electing to field after winning toss in 1996 semifinal against SL.
6. Electing to field in the 2003 WC final.
7. Believing that they can chase in a crunch match, which has never happ except on a very few occasions.
8. Not playing according to our team strength, instead we fear on opponents strength.
9. Not handling match fixing issue.
10. No scientific coaching methods adopted.

Crap logic...you should not write for the sake of maintaining sanity on earth. you should go a try to drown youself in a gutter for writing such crap. The captain is the planner, thinker strategist along with the coach. Its his moral responsiblity to resign. Rahul failed miserably with Greg for all the experiment and should commit immediate suicide for letting over a billion people suffer.

How many times did you go and drenched yourself in gutter when Saurav did not perform or India lost during his captaincy....Come On Osho grow up..your words seem like you still have to gain lot of maturity. When a team fails collectively what can a captain or coach do. I agree the captain is the planner, thinker, strategist etc. etc. but when you are in the field the captain cannot be in all 11 places to field, or he cannot bowl or he cannot bat 11 times. The strategy has to be implemented in the field by all 11 players...REMEMBER CRICKET IS A GROUP GAME NOT A INDIVIDUAL. And by the way by reading all your comments and messages the languages are all crap....Mind you

I agree with most of your views but appropriate changes need to be made at the right time giving oppurtunity for youngsters. Steve waugh was removed from the aussie one day team because of his poor perfomance in a series of one day games. India needs to follow that type of examples.

Why Not Blame The Captain

If we recollect the past, in 1987 - kapil lost his captaincy due to a single bad day, when he could not pack the sweep shot of graham gooch and gave a catch over just over boundryline to mike getting. Besides these two mistakes, he led team india trumendouly match by match in all the area. but what happened, he had to loose his captaincy.

This time again, Team India was one of the favourites to win the cup and place in SemiFinals was assured by all the leading personalities. Only and Only due to inexperienced captaincy of dravid, team india take wrong decisions one after another until it was out in the preliminary round. Wo to shukra hai Bermuda thi, Koi bhi doosari team hoti to Teeno Match haar ke aate. Thus DRAVID SHOULD BE SACKED FROM CAPTAINCY, He may be allowed to be a team member.

Ok Osho please don't bring religion, I respect all the religions of the world that is enough. I am Indian and humanity is my religion. I have full right to give my views on who should be captain.. Kaif was captain of under 17 and 19 team in which India had won the world cup and Zaheer Khan has proved himself and if we make a bowler a captain whats wrong. No body was expecting Kapil Dev to be captain but he went on to win the worldcup and became one of the legendary all rounders of cricket

How can Aus ignore someone like Shane Warne and still win
by Kabadan Y on Mar 29, 2007 11:33 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is so unfortunate that Sachin is named now-a-days along with chronic non-performers such as Kumble, Ganguly, H bhajan. If he has some self respect, he should announce his retirement. It is not necessary for him to continue just for the sake of no one is there to replace him. India will find the talent if not in 1 or 2 years. But his move will pave the way to clean up the other mess such as Ganguly, kumble, H bhajan, Sehwag etc.

The biggest problem with Sachin is that he is short of match practice. Over the last 7 years he has been sidelined several times by injury and fast tracked back into the side. It would have been better if he had delayed his comebacks and got himself match fit by playing domestic cricket. What he needs to do is play one full season of domestic cricket, get his rhythm back, and then try to come back, if he still has the hunger. If he does this, I am confident we will see a better Tendulkar
