same questions...dumb interviewer
by nischal maniar on Mar 29, 2007 04:08 AM  Permalink

The interviewer keeps asking same questions to every former player. He asked the same questions to Nayan Mongia now he is asking to G.Vishwanath. And what dumb questions " Your tone indicates that you are very upset by India's shocking exit from the World Cup, even before the Super Eight round ? ".
---> Ofcourse everyone is upset.... what a dumb question that is.

I agree partially. Get rid of Gavaskar for the good of cricket, but retain him for admin jobs.

Trying to cover up
by Dan Lewis on Mar 29, 2007 03:43 AM  Permalink

If a captain is not responsible for anything(including his own batting line up)then why do we need a captain. If that Dravid can not motivate his team mates, can not take a stable decission, can not deliver any good to the team then I wonder why is he STILL THERE in the team? His batting form which was his only asset is now in zeopardy. After such a debacle if you still think he can deliver good as a captain then I must say there is something under-the-table-difficult-to-judge politics going on here.It is not necessorily the luck as the cricket is a mind game as well.In none of the past three matches our cricketers ever looked confidant or like they could go at any extent for India.Several cricketers were found yawning in the field. There were so much experimentaions going on within the field or outside the field. It all came in the results.Do you think Dravid could at best be a mere spectator there?Remember where we are standing now and where we used to years ago.Shame on you-the undercover agent of MORE-CHAPPLE-DRAVID.

Get your facts right buddy.. Robin was not sidelined when Vishy was there, and here are the records.

Senthilnathan

http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/ci/content/player/33898.html

Total first class match played 37, 2 centuries. He did not play enough first class matches for even TN

Sharath - This is what Cricinfo had to say about him.

Despite being one of the most consistent performers on the domestic circuit, Sridharan Sharath couldn't step up to the international stage. He was unlucky that his prime coincided with a period when India's middle order - with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman - was packed with immense talent. Sharath didn't possess an immaculate technique, was disproportionately built - with clumps jutting out at the waist - and made batting look like hard work. In many ways he was Indian domestic cricket's Arjuna Ranatunga - the man for a crisis, the cool head under pressure, the hardworking artisan in a side packed with artists. For 15 seasons since 1992, he had amassed 8390 runs at an average close to 52. He became the only Tamil Nadu player to play 100 Ranji Trophy games and celebrated the moment with a century against Saurashtra in December 2007. He announced his retirement a month later.

Around the time Vishy was the chariman, Karnataka had won 3 Ranji finals in 4 years. So can you ignore a players from a champion team? or just not select them b'cos the world things he is biased? Anyways, those that do not perform will not stay long.

Whether all Ranji winning teams should have "x" number of players is not my point. I do not follow mumbai cricket. If there are good players who can play for India and have been ignored then it is right for them to knock on the door. How many mumbai players we have in the team now, I can count 3 Sachin, Agarkar, Zaheer

Yes Girish is right, remember when Vishy was the chairman we had Azhar as the captain.
So captain agreed for that , players are selected only when captian and selection committee agrees.

India's Performance in the World Cup
by laligam sekhar on Mar 29, 2007 03:04 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In future, 70% of the team members should be from a Backward class/ scheduled class, the same in regards to the selection committee. The captain should also be from the same class. 70% of the revenue to the BCCI should be spent oon promoting cricket to the same group. This will at least be consistent with the policies of the Government. Why bother about winning? We will at least have "social justice"

Let,s face reality
by on Mar 29, 2007 03:02 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Enough........ It is about time that We should stop thinking or counting individual records. No single player is bigger than the game. We Indians are always counting {Gavaskar,s centuries,Kapil,s wickets,Tendulkar,s centuries,Kumble,s 10 wickets, Sehwag,s 300,Harbhajan,s Hattrick, & many more} Walking away from the game when on top is not the policy in India & Pakistan.Only Gavaskar & Srinath retired on their own may be a few more. Our selectors should be strong decision makers I,am not against any member of the team but Players should know when to retire
Thanks

Right on bro.. As much as it hurts some players who cannot perform need to best judge when to call it quits. Someone else will not come upto them and be like "I think you should retire". For the best interest of the country and to further give chances to youth (with agression and physical and mental fitness).. these so called great players need to step down.. let the youth handle the responsibility.. maybe the whole transition process will be done in phases but thats the way to be keeping in mind the long vision for the sport. OH and please no politics!! Indian cricket has already suffered enough due to some bad elements in the BCCI and the team management

Who is the fool?
by Girish Bangalore on Mar 29, 2007 02:58 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

First Kudos to Vishy.. no one can make a better statement than him. All the problem we see on this message board is because we, the fans, are highly emotional. The team had 2 bad days, that's it and it is just a game. See what happened to South Africa today against Sri Lanka? they almost lost it after being in a position of relative strength. Let's take a deep breath and enjoy the game as is. This memory will last until the next India match when we may end up glorifying the players. I feel really sorry for the players that they have to deal with such volatile fans.

It is really not just about those 2 days.

Don't you agree that we read too much into one's records rather than prospects?

Do you really want Sachin to play like the way he's been playing last couple of years? Do you want to bet indian cricket future on him? I'd rather bet on younger players.

Time for our greats Sachin, Ganguly, Kumble and Sehwag to go. Prove yourself again in domestic and compete for a place in national team.

No more special treatment for old greats!

Vishy Sir, the best feedback I have heard till date
by Pradeep Janardhan on Mar 29, 2007 02:18 AM  Permalink

I think whatever this guy has spoken makes lot of sense.Cricket is a team sport and we cant win matches with individuals, we need the team to contribute. Today when everybody are pointing fingers on individual players, this great man says absolutely correct.Especially the comment on Dravid, Sachin and Kumble.Kumble being out in crucial matches has to do a lot with Indian defeats in this Worldcup
