Vishwanath was a great Batsman, But an extremely biased Selector
by deepak kotnis on Mar 29, 2007 06:54 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

i think on the 96 tour of south africa, it was vishwanath who selected people like dodda ganesh and david johnson for the all important tour, if he could have selected salil ankola and abey kuruvilla then, things could have been much much different, it is on recoord that, hansie cronje the then captain of south africa after pkaying salil ankola in the one day sereies after the tests, went on to say, "i m really surprised that this guy was not a part of the test tem" Vishwanath is extremely responsible for not giving enough chances to ankola and kuruvilaa who where the most successfu; combi of fast bowling in domestic cricket in those days, also sunil johsi and sujit somasunder were disasters, then we had vijay bharadwaj and very important, rahul dravid was groomed very well which hepled him come to the state he is today, if would have been traeted like ramesh powar or vinod kambli, today he wud have had a 15000 runs, but (playing for karnataka).....

biased? its a big joke the players were selected for their performences in domestic cricket, ankola andn kuruvilla could not play cricket properly for bombay, forget about india,it was biased selection in favour of mumbai players we had difficulty in winning macthes, only recently the talented players from other parts of india have made india proud by winning test macthes abroad. think about agarkar the most pampered player in the team who gets selected for nothing, every one abroad is happy while he is playing so they can get two boundrys in his over so much for his calibre, isnt it kotnis the less said is better of mumbai players

Dodda Ganesh was the highest wicket taker of that ranji season and david johnson was the fastest in India at that time....Karnataka won the Ranji trophy 2 years in a row and it was natural that these guys get selected....Unlike Vinod Kambi who had more chances than he should have just because Sachin was captain...And dont you say anything about Dravid...no one could have kept him out. For that matter if Sachin had been treated like Powar he would have scored 20,000 runs but for Mumbai....Think big Think India small minded Mumbaite

well u seem to have a lot of problem with mumbai, the issue is not mumbai or karnataka, issue is whether vishwanath was biased or not, and if u r talking about raji triphy winning, so u r contradicting ur own words because its obvious that mumbai players dominated the world cricket with more than 35 wins till now, so u cant say selectors were biased in selecting them, and vinod kambli was dropped from the test team on the basis of his one day performane, the same sereies in which dravid was selected, so get ur basics right my friend, and where r u mentioning india, ur statements revolve around the ring road of bangalore which doesnt even go till the airport, bye bye....

it was not just batting it was bowling that took us down!
by J V on Mar 29, 2007 06:52 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Keeping Agarkar and Harbhajan in team when Irfan and Sehwag could have done better.

it was not just batting it was bowling that took us down!

Bangladesh will not reach 191 with any other team... I feel even Bermuda had them out in less than that.

Sri-lanka with 133 for 4 in 32 overs reached 255.

Uthappa, Yuvraj and Dhoni threw their wickets but having Agarkar and Harbhajan in team just puts extra pressure on batting.

It is the captain who must have taken care of these! Tell Rahul to lick feet of Pawar, Chappell, More and who ever required to keep his position as a captain. This hichra must go...

i guess rahul should contiune.... and new team should ahve youth as well as experienced palyers
give a break to munaf, irfan, shewag to prove/improve their fitness, let them play domestic cricket atleast a session.... look at munaf( i am not against munaf... he bowled really good) he can't field his spped gone dowm from 140 to 120-130
i guess slector should include people like Joginder Sharma / Ishant Sharma / Manoj tiwari / Badrinath / RP singh / Rohit sharma / Romesh Pawar / vrv singh
including ganguly,sachin,dravid,yuvraj, zaheer,sreesanth, dhoni, dinesh
agarkar, bhaaji should be removed from the team.
kumble is quiting onedayers

Wish people were more sensible. A captain is only as good as his team.If any "junk guy" will "perform" that Dravid will definitely thrive ! Btw we even have a drought of "junk guys" to lead the team at the moment. It is a responsibility nobody is ready to shoulder yet.
