Ideal Team Indian with current talent pool
by joseph george on Mar 28, 2007 08:25 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The new ODI Team India IV should be :-

Mohammed Kaif(Captain)
Dinesh Karthik(wk)
Zaheer Khan
Ishant Patel
Robin Uthappa
Yuvraj Singh(VC)
Suresh Raina
Irfan Pathan
Munaf Patel
Gautham Gambhir
Piyush Chawla
Ravneet Ricky
Abhishek Jhunjhunvala
Ambatti Rayyudu
MS Dhoni

Saurav, Dravid were not included becauce they've no realistic chance of playing in the 2011 WC

Sachin, Sehwag were not selected because their time is up, in fact they shouldnt even have made the trip to Windies for the 2007 version of the tournament.

By the way the best coach would be Tom Moody or Robin Singh

On why Kaif should be captain, he is the only Indian below 30 who has captained a world cup winning team, although its at the under-19 level in 1999. But hey thats were the future is. Gautham, Suresh Raina, Uthappa, Irfan and Dhoni have been miserable failures in the recent past, but who hasnt been one. When did Sehwag, Sachin, Dravid etc win / save us a match in the last 3-4 years.

The test team should be :-

Mohammed Kaif(Captain)
Dinesh Karthik(wk)
Zaheer Khan
Ishant Patel
Saurav Ganguly
Yuvraj Singh(VC)
VVS Laxman
Irfan Pathan
Munaf Patel
Sachin Tendulkar
Piyush Chawla
Amol Muzumdar
Abhishek Jhunjhunvala
Virendar Sehwag
MS Dhoni

Your team is good except for Kaif .. he has not yet proved himself at the international arena. And he has been given quite a number of chances to do that.
I would make Yuvraj captain and Karthik VC.

DONT GET INTO GIMMICKS
by on Mar 28, 2007 07:54 PM  Permalink

The subject is a quote from Imran Khan on a recent interview i saw on youtube(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hli4kxOqJ0I)
Knowing Indian cricket better....what will now follow are gimmicks. Such as....fire the coach, create an India Blue team(they couldnt find good 11 players now they will try and find 22).
The problem that ails us is the quality of domestic cricket...and then we wonder how the hell australian players start to perform as soon as they come into the team. Coz they have 6 teams in domestic cricket and we have 1 million teams in Ranji. Aussies dont have a zonal selectional process...we do.
India and Pakistan have the most talent but that means nothing, talent doesnt make you throw over the stumps from the boundary. Talent doesnt make you run singles all day. Talent doesnt make you dive on the field and stop that certain four. It requires hardwork.
Take a look at these aussie players(http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/australia/content/image/262846.html )...and compare them with our CHAMPS. The only so called unfit players in the aussie team (Shane Warne) are match winners.

Having said all of this....we all know. Nothing will change in Indian cricket. We will make trips to Bandladesh and ZImbabve...invite another weak team to India. Score 1 crore runs and all will be forgotten.

I am sad and angered but thats the true state of any third world country. If BCCI is sold to Wipro tomorrow....i bet things will change. But politicians have ruined our country and now our cricket.

Chappel was not happy.
by Podili murthy on Mar 28, 2007 07:25 PM  Permalink

Had he been true to himself and objected during selection or even before leaving for west indies, this result would not have come. Any way, game is like that only. In the true spirit of the game, players should own the responsibility and take punishment. Discussing too much on this may not have good results as we can wake up a person who is sleeping, but we cannot wake up a person who is acting (like our BCCI / players / selector / coach etc..)

For the better of Indian Cricket
by Senthil Kumar on Mar 28, 2007 06:56 PM  Permalink

When Chappell had the guts to tell that Sourav should not be captaining the Indian side and axed him from the side, why on earth he kept quite without making public that he is not happy with the team composition ?

First of all , people should make the role of a coach clear. He is like a lecturer who transfer his knowledge to the students he is provided with. Never on earth the lecturer can claim that he will choose the students he wanted to teach. It is ridiculous. His job is just to coach the players provided to him by the selection commitee and it is up to the board to decide whether he doing the role correctly or not.

In my opinion , he successfully transformed a 'winning team' to a 'nothing team' in his tenure of 18 months. It's not too late now. Send this stupid Aussie back to his hometown and choose some technically equipped Indian bowling coach (may be Venkatesh Prasad) and Indian batting coach (may be Manjrekar) to coach the young players coming in. The bottom line is the coach should be accessible and player friendly rather than having a Policman sort of attitude and I feel only ex-Indian players will know player attitude better. There is no need for the foreign coach to do strategy or team plan or whatever.

Shane Warne is aboslutely right in his statement - "International Players Don't Need a Coach"

Hippocratic
by on Mar 28, 2007 06:53 PM  Permalink

I dont know why we have started the blame game ... and why we r lissenin to the mofo(chappal)..... he says suresh raina was a must ...... i cant believe when i heard that .... i guess no one wud have taken that guy in the team if we hafd the opportunity to select the team ...i guess he performed only in 2-3 matches out of the 30-40 he played ..... Dravid played the dice well on taking sehwag ...at least it was only coz of sehwag india managed to score 400 against bermuda ///at least initially he was th eonly reason that india had a good run rate .... if u dont want want to believe me see ganguly strike rate at that period .... it was just an unlucky day for india and dravid that they selected to bat against b'desh ....if india can't bat against b'desh on a seaming pitch then i want to know against whom they can score .... it was fair dice he played but unluckily or u can say stupidity of the indian team that they lacked the common sense ... they wasnted acclerate at the wrong time ...and thanks to dhoni harbhajan and agarkar they didnt bothered the scorers..... India is just a team of great individuals ...sry its not a team at all ..... We lost in singapore then south africa ...and we were tigers at home ...it was only media who made the hooplah that india is a world beater .... even last time in west indies they lost 4-1 ..then how can we expect to beat other teams ..... only media knows i guess.... we are ranked 6th in world cricket and we win only againstt minnows and at home on flat placid short outfiled grounds ...... we need to be more realistic that india is not a world beater ... we are just over possessed by the aggregate scores collected by our great batsmen .... we have never won a match on team basis ..it was always a match winner who used to click one day and saves the ass of all the other players

chapell as a coach
by nilesh nair on Mar 28, 2007 06:37 PM  Permalink

I am a supporter of greg, for his vision, although many might not agree to it, but he had some good vision about the way cricket was going in india, he was really giving an effort to build a second layer when all the oldies were to retire and he was introducing new blood and giving them enough experience, now we are asking for heads of dravid, ganguly, sachin and sehwag, kumble , who are the ones who are talked about to replace them, just look into the matter and you will find, its all those who were given chance by More and Greg, so if vengsarkar had guts to suport greg then we would have had a good bunch who are live wire on the field and probably we would have been in the super 8 now.
now also, i would like greg to continue and for gods sake pls let him have his say during selection and have some youth in the teams , we are passionate peoples but when its concerning india then let the command transfer to the youth and give a respectable exit to the senior players for their contribution to cricket and our country.

Chappell
by wolverine on Mar 28, 2007 06:29 PM  Permalink

Chappell probably had the singlemost reason for India to succeed.Lets face it : he has no ad revenues to pay off his bills. So one can safely say whatever his plans were,it was in keeping with the best interests of the country.

But I guess he was faced with the truth that our country has demi-gods for cricketers who have their own personal agenda to further.Hence we are where we are today. It would be really sad if Chappell was axed for the Indian team's performance later in the day.
