STUPID
by vijay baskar on Mar 27, 2007 03:36 PM  Permalink

Emotional fools who dont know to differentiate between a game and life do this.. stupids who dont care about their family and career commit suicide just for a game..
With this sort of stupidity in this country just for one game ppl are dreaming INDIA will be the world leader by 2020. Ha ha ha ha..IT CAN ONLY BECOME A WORLD LOSER..

only one team can win the world cup..let me see if the people of NZ,AUS,SA behave the same way if these 3 dont win the WC...

Uneducated ppl and rogue political factors are getting into the game of cricket also..England has never won world cup so far..i have never seen any such stupidity in england.. England just now lost the WC football last year ..everybody was calm and carried on with their work jus expressing sorrow by words... I am proud that i am not in my home country now...

Rather than the fans shouting why cant they play for the nation ? The game was introduced by british as "gentleman game "..ha ha.. the word lost its purity when India or pakistan started playing that game..we can term it as "Political Game ".
Every Human is bound to mistakes...i dont know why fire is still fuming in people to do such stupidity of burning effigies and posters ..Unemployment rules india..ppl donno what to do to pass their time and rather go ahead for this.. and no wonder its initiated by some ruthless people by giving cheap amounts..
INDIA CAN NEVER CHANGE OR IMPROVE is clearly wintnessed here...
They wont remove sachin or rahul or dada.. how many of u will stop watching cricket ? maximum 100 out of the billion ? Dont scream regularly like this and degrade ur respect..
go ahead and see ur future.. scolding players with bad words or abusing them is not a matter of pride rather its the most shameful thing to signify that we are highly useless to talk about them...
ACHEIVERS IN EACH AND EVERY FIELD ARE A PRIDE TO THE NATION..NEVER MIND THEY FAIL TEMPORARILY...SACHIN AND RAHUL ARE DEFN A PRIDE TO THE INDIAN CRICKET ..

Some action points needs to be taken immediately
by Srinivas Rao on Mar 27, 2007 01:23 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Remove Rahul Dravid from the Team - India will get 50 % of luck. His astrological signs are not good as a leader and a player.

Remove Tendulkar - India will get 20 % luck.
Remove Harbajan & Agarkar - India will get 20 % luck and remaining 10 % Sehwag & Dhoni.

Fill the gaps with a fresh and young blood. Then see the changes.

Appoinnt Dav Watsmore as Coach.

Sack Greg Chappel.

Cricket is a Game like any other GAME
by chhanda pathak on Mar 27, 2007 09:47 AM  Permalink

The death of Coach in suspicious condition signals that cricket is no more left a game played by two teams where one will ordinarily be defeated by another one. We have played game of cricket and hockey or some other in our college days. We know that defeat is painful but we also know that winner performed better with least errors. If only one team is to win forr ever then perhaps we would have lost the game itself.
What went wrong over the years? I have seen in 70s' when westindian team used to be full with class players in batting and bowling. Still, we had a young player like Siddhu who played against them and scored century as a young lad in three days game. What was missing that time or perhaps was not rampant, is 'gambling' tendencies. Now, it has been established beyond doubt that 'bookies' play the game and our poor players, coaches, captains and even honest umpires remain a'actors'. It is these criminal elements who go to any extent to see using muscle, money and political power that who will play and who will umpire!!! They go to any extent of threaatening anybody who may come in their way.
I will suggest that we should stop attaching emotions and money to cricket and see that game will come back and our players and coaches will make efforts to improve the standards of the game. Money has corrupted our entire system including our players and play-makers. Our sports administration must keep an eye on our players' earnings including the one which comes from advertisements. Many a times these advertisements' earnings are fake and indirect channels to compensate a player for his corrupted behaviour.
Cricket association may keep an eye on regular compensation mechanism to pay all the players well, though greed always surpasses any reasonable payments.

I hope it helps.

BUSH SEEKS HELP FROM INDIAN CRICKTERS, WOW!
by anir garud on Mar 27, 2007 09:13 AM  Permalink

The late breaking news is that American President Bush is seeking help from Indian crickters. Apparently he is said to have been very impressed with their exit strategy - quick and swift. Before anyone knew they were out of it.

Wow, Indian cricket has so much to the offer to the world!

So kill all the local sports in your area, just watch cricket!

Cricket hype
by Shankar Panday on Mar 27, 2007 07:21 AM  Permalink

cricket has been hyped up in India by the media..its a so so game, not really a global sport..the game never attained the high skill levels of football or basketball..as a matter of fact not even one cricketing nation attained the levels of West Indies of the 70s...India should now place its resources and energy into developing more grass root & mass sports which take shorter time and you can enjoy with your family...football, hockey, basketball are great sports and necessary for a healthy nation..community centres should have these facilities and offer these sports which are affordable, and reduces class disparity thru sports..more power to mass level and physically demanding sports for India...make a resolution to reach the World Cup football finals !!

May be we should pay these guys more
by sugesh on Mar 27, 2007 05:37 AM  Permalink

Most cricket boards have a retainer fee for their top players which they are paid yearly plus any winnings from man of the matches or match/series wins. These retainers and match salaries vary widely. For instance, it has been published that the Australian cricket side will each take home roughly $500,000US per year thanks to the retainer contracts and match winnings over a year. Another example is the West Indian players who can earn upwards of $8,000US per Test and $3,000US per ODI based on their contracts and number of games played.

Sachin Tendulkar is rumoured to have an annual salary in excess of $15 million US thanks to his salary and endorsement deals.

May be we should pay these guys more, then they may have more time for cricket practice than attending some ad film shootout!!!

Its the pitches and our attitude
by srinivas kanna on Mar 27, 2007 05:05 AM  Permalink

No matter young blood or old blood are medium blood are inducted into the team, the performance is going to be the same if the pitches back in india are going to remain the same. We need that extra effort in our fielding to save 25-30 runs on the field. If you had seen the match between Aus and SA yesterday (Aus eventually won the match) India were no where near a match to them on any aspect. Better it didnt qualify for the super 8s. Aus and SA are going to beat the crap out of Bangladesh. The team needs severe retrospection and we should have two teams; one for test and one for ODI. I see no point in sacking Dravid from the captaincy. A captain can cheer you up, set your fields, and support you. Its the individual who has to deliver and unfortunately our batting collapsed against SL. Had anyone (Dhoni atleast) been there with Dravid, the story would have been different. Change the pitches, change groupism, make the BCCI meetings and selection as an open house project transparent to all people, seek the advice of previous captains, appoint a fielding coach, have the pacemen go and train at MRF pace academy and more importantly make our players work out physically. World cup is going to happen once in every 4 years. Things do change and its just that we need to adapt to the change. talking old achievements is crap. So better late than never. Arise and awake stop not till you win the WC.

Life in the Cricketing Couldron
by Ved Vedamanikam on Mar 27, 2007 02:07 AM  Permalink

Mr. Editor:

I have no issue with Pritha Sarkar's balanced and factual article on the fanatisism sorrounding cricket in the sub-continent.

Please allow me to give you a different perspective on cricket and the immense harm that it has done to Indian sports in general.

There was a time prior to 1947, that only 6 nations played cricket at the 'test match' level. They were UK, Australia, New Zealand, W. Indies, S. Africa and India. Notice, it was played by Britain and its colonies.

Today, out of around 200 nations, about a dozen nations play it at the test match (and/or World cup) level.

Cricket is like religion in India today - it is a cricket-mad nation, with all its scarce sports resources thrown into a 'sport' of dubious value.

Consider these facts:

1. Cricket originated in the UK, whereby physically unfit and idle gents of the upper classes engaged in this pastime (I prefer to NOT call it a sport).

2. Cricket is not even the most popular 'sport' even in the nation of its origin. Neither is it the most popular in Australia, the current champions. In both these nations it is a fourth strung 'sport' after soccer, rugby and field hockey.

3. India dominated field hockey until 1964 and was a world force to reckon with in soccer until 1956.

4. India's cricket team performs pathetically while playing overseas. The stats bear this out with rare exceptions.

Why did cricket become the most popular 'sport' in India?

My theory is that the upper castes in India took it on because it did not involve body contact. Since the higher castes had (and still has) most political and bureaucratic power, this stupid pastime called cricket has been shamelessly promoted at the expense of all other real sports - soccer, hockey, track & field, gymnastics, aquatic sports etc. etc. India will never get an Olympic gold medal unless it sheds this anachronistic colonial legacy called cricket.

The well-deserved thrashing that India received at the hands of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka should be a wake-up call to abandon this stupid pastime called cricket.

I think George Bernard Shaw once said that cricket is a game played by 22 fools and watched by 22,000 (ere pardon me, one billion) bigger fools.
