extremely well captured!
by shivani valluri on Mar 26, 2007 12:28 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

ever since India's loss. in fact even before we started the world Cup campaign, i had this strarnge feeling that something was just not right.Someone, from the BCCI, must read Swarup's article and a few of the sensible responses posted on rediff, to get their wits around! There are many over the board messages too ,like rashid mohammed and party, who cant think calmly nor are capable of rationale or logic. To put it simply, all those who are calling for mass sacking and other drastic measures are as erratic as the Indian team.

Today's article by Swarup has put things in the right perspective, it is what I've been searching in all the news papers and websites!

It is sad that people are talking of age being a factor and they would pack the team with 18-21 yr olds! Just look at the Australian team-ponting, Mc Grath, Hayden, Gilchrist- all above 30 years!Did the 1983 world cup winning team consist of spring chickens?? In fact Vengsarkar and Shastri, the spring chikens watched the matches from the sidelines.

Swarup hit the nail on the head ;that we clap a boundary-filled 40 more than that with singles.Occupation of crease is not vital, therefore we see sehwags,Uthappas as more valuable than Laxman or Kaarthik.I'm sure neither the captain nor the coach were entirely convinced about Kumble, |pathan or Sehwag but they still went with the team.

What is required is a little bit of Honesty,Is Mr.Dravid listening? What is the exact reason for banking on flashy players like Sehwag,Yuvraj? Is it becoz they have more corporates backing them thro endorsements? Laxman is not considered saleable by the corporates so he plays the less glamorous Test Matches?same for Venu gopal rao and powar, not glamorous enough!

Dhoni is yet to prove his mettle outside the sub-continent, yet he is considered a genuine battting allrounder?

Lets be honest lets back honesty. When the Chief Selector talks straight, people attack him.We need to persist with people like Vengarkar and Chappell, give them more freedom. Someone open and straight and simple like--Laxman to lead the team.

look at Stephen Fleming ,he doesnt have fantastic stats as batsman, but he delivers when it is needed and goes about his job quietly.

Its very much true that Dhoni is a flat track 'bully' yet the selectors persist with him. Some even have gone to the extent of putting him together in the same class as Adam Gilchrist, Brendon McCullum, Kumar Sangakkara, Mark Boucher etc. He is no where near the above mentioned players. Its probably his hairstyle thats attracting the selectors. He needs a cut big time.. not just to his hair but also to his place in the team.

India's exit from WC 2007
by barun kumar chatterjee on Mar 26, 2007 12:28 PM  Permalink

Yes its fact its the India's poorest performance in WC2007. No use for further analysis, surgery etc. What is to be done next that is the main point. Players like Sourav Ganguly,Great Tendulkar, Useless Captain Dravid( Does'nt know ABC of Captain), Nazafgarh Ki sultan Sehawg, Dhood Pinay Bala DHONI, Kumbley , Harbachan Singh should be immediately dropped. BCCI must show them the exit with due respect and Selectors must find out at least 20 best young players who all are performed best in Ranji Trophy( without any regional basis)and give them one year hard training . Till then there should not be any match where India will perticipate. Make Yubraj singh as Captain of India team and coach among either Sunil Gavaskar,Sandip Patil or Ravi Sastri.

we are stupid people paying unwanted attention to crap. then we say oh we cant progress because of shitty politicians. how many here have been a part of a social cause ? we all like to sleep and booze on saturdays and sundays. and like to break the line or buy tickets in black, jump the red-light because we are late for a date and then complain for the lack of civic sense. GROW UP.

Dude!!!If you are pointing out towards me let me make you aware of teh fact that I am a member of a political party called Paritrana and in the recent campaigns I was responsible for spreading their message to the rural people.I do my act right but wish the other people also do so.As per Swami Vivekanand-do good yourself first and the world would reflect you-so instead of throwing out stark comments why don't you try to be on the balance of morality and circumspect your actions to see how many have been put to national development.

Why Cricket-Why not armed Forces??
by Saurabh Saha on Mar 26, 2007 12:22 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I don't seem to understand that in a country which has the largest intellectual pool in the world why do people still give a lot of importance to the cricketers and more so to cricket.Boss!!!It is just a game and is no more than a form of entertainment.Have people ever tried to put their heads into the blankets of reality and tried to see the pitiable condition in the Indian Armed forces. Are we actually aware of teh fact that over 500 soldiers have committed suicide in the past owing to their inability to go back homes. These soldiers are there in adverse conditions in Siachin glacier,Baramula where temeratures are no less than -40 degrees.Do we actually know how meagre salaries these soldiers get-an army cadet gets around 4K as monthly salary and his yearly increment is no more than Rs 300-compare that to the pay packages that our cricketers get-an A class cricketer gets 60 lacs,B 40 lacs and C 20 lacs-not even in the close proximity of what our soldiers get.Heroes our people who sacrifice their lives to protect our country, remain aloof from their families for months and years to come .I can say this as my parents are in the army and I am proud of them but why does the public fail to realize who real heroes are even after the fact that we have been under the colonial rule for almost 10 decades. When Raveena Tandon tried to bring out the same point in her movie'Stumped' nobody went to see the movie. This is the state of patriotism in India. Why do we worship these dummy gods like Sachin and Dravid .In a country which uses 70% of it's GDP in repaying foreign loans the 30% thats remaining is also put in Cricket but to what result-failure.We have a team of losers and shall continue to have as in India it's always bout politics. We are also publically responsible for iconoclasting these good for nothing cricketers. Is the public actually aware of the fact that there are approx 1000 PoW(Prosoners of War) in pakistan who have been denied salaries and pensions by the Indian Government. These families are starving for even an ounce of food where on the other hand state governments are conferring Lacs and Lacs of rupees to these cricketers. Is this justice??Do we still call ourselves Patriotic??It is a shame and we have to live with it.I am sure a lot of people would be offended on reading this but once they see the essence of this paragraph they would feel I am right.

Well.. I agree with most of the point made by Saurabh... but the media hype is soooo high... esp with Cricket that all other things become non issues. Generally the 99% of the people, who come with a typical employee thinking fall prey to what media wants them to eat, drink, see, visualise. The result is that they are never allowed to think beyond tomorrow. If you ask a group the question - 'where do you see yourself 5 years from now', 95% have no idea. They dont even have a clue of why they are 'living' the life.
From such people, one cant really expect anything but idolising cricketers.

Dude where do u think u r taking this discussion too? these people you talk abt who r working in the army...they are not forced to do that..they can leave the job if they cant make ends meet...My country already spends 1 lac crores a year on defence...I dont see where we could more money on....get ur basics rite...the money spent on cricketers is waste i understand but this was never India's money...if coca cola or pepsi want to spend their dollars why shud we care? Every person earns on his own...this is pure jealousy...talking abt ur comment on intellectuality...well intellectually speaking i wouldnt want an army..if sweden can survive without one...so can we...i think its a waste of precious 1 lac crores....all i am trying to say is..its not an ideal world...while i believe its waste spending on cricketers...but its not my money....why shud i care where is it spent.

How will your life change if Indian Cricket improves? This is what I call lack of prioritisation in our own life! For Gods sake, leave cricket.. its not going to change anything in ur or my life. If at all you are so concerned... go and play cricket and change the things !

have anyone heard the word ''RETIREMENT'' from anyone in TEAM-INDIA
by Rajesh H on Mar 26, 2007 12:20 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

When Pak went crashing out of the world cup, whole board, with captain announced retirement. And its days as India is on the way home. and not even a single member in our team-India has announced Retirement. IF Sachin plays in WC-2011, he will use his bat as walking stick and will have other Grandpa's running for him.

why blame chappel and dravid only
by Mukund Bangalore Sreevatsan on Mar 26, 2007 12:19 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I feel a bit unhappy abt some of the coments on tv news, such as "sachin next captain? " ... what has sachin done to deserve this? he is the worst...not the best batsman, never plays in pressure....from last world cup to this can anyone just show me one good inings of his while under pressure, i.e after the paki match in last world cup...no u will never get and he is our next captain...BAD THINKING...I do agree team failed so the coach and captain thinking failed, sack them...ok...but bring in someone who deserves "DEFIANTELY SO CALLED SUPERSTAR, BEST BATSMAN etc etc ....SACHIN" I am sorry as per me he does not deseve place in playing 11 as well....I am worried that this bad game will make the BCCI drop youngsters and keep giving chances to old guys like sachin, agarkar, harbhajan, shewag, etc ..... please drop them not irfan, uthappa, sreesanth, dravid (the only amongst old who deserves place) in the team.

Change Entire players
by on Mar 26, 2007 12:18 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

My suggestion is that please select players from rural areas who doesnt have ambition to earn black money. Train them in proper way by Indian coach(Local coach). They must be dedicated to only Indian cricket. Not for model or involved in any advertisement/politics. If we dont do this, this will repeat again and again.

The selection committee should not make any partiality, caste wise ,religion, state wise, region wise, sonth/north/east/west/? politics...........!!!!!!

If dont do this we can not expect anything to favour of India.

Give me chance I will do it. I dont want any reward or any favour from my nation. I will do in favour of my nation and die.
