Effigies will be burnt. coach will be sacked. Dravid will quit from captaincy. homes of dravid, sehwag, dhoni will be pelted with stones. People will abuse all the cricketers in their homes, offices and newspapers. criceket pundits will argue that dravid shud not have had put srilanka to bat in first or India shud have batted first on the pitch after knowing the result. All the advertisements in which the players did will rest in peace...........After three months there will people and girls surrounding dhoni in a saloon shop. This is not Nostradamus prediction but this is what it happens for all those years in India.

i liked the sarcastic touch you have given to this , but you are absolutely correct , crib crib and than back to normal ways, India will have tough time , best of luck and hope we make it to super8
probably we are two days away from major announcements. if india loses,
1. ganguly will retire 2. dravid will resign from captaincy 3. sehwag will be sacked never to show his face again 4. sachin will regain captaincy after 7 long years 5. dhoni will cut his hair .......

probably we are two days away from major announcements. if india loses,
1. ganguly will be Captain if he plays well 2. dravid will retire 3. sehwag will be sacked never to show his face again if he does not play well 4. sachin will be happy to support dada as a captain 5. dhoni will cut his hair and run after dada
These are possibilities, which nobody should think now. Only pray for India's win.

good abhi. i like tat.
if india reaches super 8...then
1. ganguly will keep playing for another 2 years 2. dravid will keep his passive approach of captaincy 3. Sehwag will be there to blast Pak only 4. Sachin will go on play next world cup 5. Dhoni will never cut his hair b'coz Musharaf like tat.

1. No he won't. India's failure (amongst Ganguly's shining performance) is probably the best thing Dada would want now. He would continue and regain his hold on the team (may be not captaincy, but definitely his stock with soar) 2. Yes, he will have no other choice. If he doesn't he will invite unsavoury comparisons with Inzamam ('look at him shameless chap, hanging on to the captaincy, even a Pakistani like Inzamam is better, he atleast resigned') 3. No he won't, Sehwag is too big a presence to be sacked unceremoniously. There are millions who support him and the board will need a really good reason to sack him after his (timely) 114. 4. Looks very likely, Sachin in my opinion has been planning and plotting this for atleast 1-2 years (fans don't get offended, this is merely a conjecture). 5. He will have to someday. Probably after getting married; definitely not if India gets knocked out.

That's a pretty silly response - we're trying to become aware of what needs to be done & not play it blindly. And also : if you're so supportive of the team in trying to make them move ahead, what were you doing during the loss to Bangladesh ? Not supporting our men in blue !?

Whatever happens tomorrow, semi-final Lineup will be Australia, Newzealand, S.Africa and Sri Lanka. Final will be Newzealand vs. Srilanka and WC.Winner will be Newzealand! This is on the basis of capability and current Form.
To win a cricket match, you require one of two things - at least. The first is a phenomenal performance by an individual. In the present scenario, I don't see anyone in the present team being in the right form to produce such a performance. The second option is a team performance that covers our own inadequacies and exposes the opponents. Jayasuriya has been patchy against India and Zaheer especially. Tharanga is a bit of stand and deliver player. Jayawardene struggled to gain fluency against Bermuda as well. The real danger is Sangakkara; if he gets going, the only way to get him out is to wait for him to commit a mistake. I do not necessarily see SL's bowling as being anything more than consistent. If one magic ball to one of our batsmen causes our downfall then the others should commit suicide. On the other hand, we lack top order consistency and, contrary to reason as this might sound, Uthappa has experience facing up to Maharoof and Malinga and should be in the top order. The one change from Bermuda's match would be Harbhajan in for Kumble, since there are a number of left handers in SL's lineup. We then have to ensure that we cover our fielding inadequacy with extra runs and expose SL's inadequacy against good swing bowling and collapsing under pressure. This does not sound straightforward given our current form, but looks much more likely than a single glorious performance.
However, if we do contrive to lose tomorrow, I won't be shedding tears because a team ridden with superiority complex, shambolic attitude and a lack of any regiment deserves to suffer. Also, it will teach a lesson to all those advertisers and television channels who've made our lives such hell by running nonsensical and idiotic cricket shows and sections. I know someone might say "then why watch those channels"; the problem is any channel you turn on has the rubbish blaring out.
All in all, I know we've underperformed and lack basic cricketing skills required at the highest levels. However, I also hope that all those 250-odd wickets or million-odd run records mean something in tomorrow's match.
On an honestly unrelated note, I fear for Greg Chappell, should we lose tomorrow :).. Alright, it was a pun!!

hi everybody, i know about indian team very well. everybody have to look india's previous results and statics in series as well as world cup. in that way india can make a place in super 8 of this world cup. it is sure that india will win against sri lanka but two things they have to take in mind that one is kartik will be in for the place of sehwag eventhough sehwag played well against bermuda, but we dont forget that country was bermuda, second thing is that every indian could not understand why agarkar is inside the 11 players, he must be eliminated by srisanth. also if possible, last option is irfan will be in place of robin Uthappa. thank you best luck india

jayasuriya has been most vulnerable against agarkar who has taken jayasuriya's scalp most among india's bowlers. wake up and see the reality besides teaching yourself how to play cricket. You fool.

Good thoughts Chiradeep. I couldn't agree more. In fact, to take your thinking a bit further, I would like to investigate the motivations that drive an Indian cricketer. Lets start with the basic premise that cricketers are in cricket to make money. Today isn't like earlier times (or like teams from Ireland and Bermuda) where cricketers play to enjoy themselves and entertain the crowds. They are in it for the money. And lets not be judgemental on that since these guys have given up other fulfilling and steady careers in order to devote their minds and bodies to making money by playing cricket. They aren't different from us guys who are making money as professionals, entrepreneurs, businessmen etc. With that out of the way, lets examine how modern day cricketers make moeny. In countries like Australia and South Africa, there is a strong domestic structure that pays handsomely anyone who decides to play well for his club. It is these who make it to the international team where too the structure allows them to earn good money that is linked to their performance (e.g. the Cricket Australia's A, B, C categorisation system). The message here is very clear - you want to earn money then earn it by playing well, otherwise you are out. In India (and Pakistan) a cricketer is bestowed demi-god status and thus companies ambush him for his brand value. Thus, as long as the brand persists the cricketer earns money by appearing in ads. The incentive here is to maintain the brand (mainly through well timed good performances that keep the public happy) and the cash keeps flowing in. In effect, for the subcontinental players the incentive is linked to brand value that is weakly linked to on-field performance. For others incentive is directly linked to performance. As a case in contrasts, assume a Shane Warne existed in India. He would have no brand value because of his off-field misdemeanours and thus would be unpopular with the public. In Australia, he is a revered (and one of the highest earning) star because he is a genius on field. Shane Warne would not have survived in India
Sorry guys, but i can't help it. For all those who have been fuming their head over India's chances of making it into the Super 8, I just have one question. What kind of super8 entry would be that??? Atrocious, isn't it? For a team of the stature of India (the no.1 team on paper as it is filled with world's best individual performers), they should instead forfeit all their remaining matches and get out of the tourney after that humiliating defeat against Bangladesh.
Media has nothing better to do and it is just deriving cheap thrills out of these kinda mathematical exercises by confusing the common man.
From the depth of my heart, I pray to God that please put this team out of the tourney and even if you put it in the super8, don't worry, they would return you the favour by going down to their super8 opponent super-tamely again. Sorry to say all these, but i am deeply fed up....thats all....
RE:ridiculous calculations!!!
by kripa venkat on Mar 22, 2007 09:32 PM Permalink
agreed, cricket should be played on the field not off-the field using such calculations. i feel that India had a bad day against Bangladesh and can bounce back. Neither is India the best team as the media hypes nor is it as terrible as its being projected now.
Every world cup every four years and every ODI tournament every year which is decided on points system, the indian cricketers manage to make their lives miserable and leave it unto the very last match to scrape through the next round.
I am so outraged by this gutless planning/execution that for once i wish we fail miserably, so that we can bring some sense back to this madness. I feel sorry for all people who spend a lot of time and effort supporting the team and then left to bite their nails.
Dravid and Co. please stop this nonsense and get doing what we know the team is capable of doing. But first, please bow out of this competition.

Rumeer - a very timely observation .. but lets do it one more time .... after all this is World Cup that comes our way only once in 4 years. ....
RE:RE:Same predicament !!!
by Rumeer Shah on Mar 22, 2007 09:45 PM Permalink
Pradipta the point i am trying to make is that this is a tournament at the highest level. If a team can't perform at its best it should not remain in there.
I would support a straight knockout tourney. Every round teams are randomly assigned. One who wins progresses. If you have a bad day and lose so be it. This way on its day even Ireland can win the Cup and even Australia can lose it.
This will help stop the rot. I know this will never be implemented 'cause nowadays the marketers/sponsors run this game anyway. Sad!
everyone here sems to put a strategy as how india should win over Sri Lanka and what net run rate should bangaldesh score so as to reach super8. but can anyone out here lemme know if India loses to Sri lanka and Bangladesh loses to Bermuda in any circumstances then what changes does run rates bring and who wil reahc super 8.
