Hi people, I have tried little improvement over this method. I have described it on my blog http://sudheersahu.blogspot.com and currently I have applied it only to Indian players (because of lack of time), but we can apply it to all matches in world cup. Could you have a look at it ?
Dear Rediff, you can see that the list is dominated by the batsman. By this I mean that players scoring runs are getting more weight. A better way probably would be to normalise the scores, and take with respect to the two sides playing the match (something similar to net run rate). Another error in this method is that a match might be a slow-scoring one and the value of a say 35 from 70 balls could be much more than another player scoring a 50 from 45 balls in a high scoring game.
the method seems horriblly stupid. thrs no logic in it. if a batsman scores slowly in a difficult match (eg. ganguly against bangladesh) it gets low weitage, but a faster scoring against a bermuda or netherlands gets more weitage. Foolish.. the context of the game is not taken into accout, neither is the opponent. ussless method

If you know how to calculate total, calculating average is simple. Average is simply total by number of matches.
I suggest that for every match instead of considering 0.8 (runs/ball) as the standard run-rate use the maximum of the two teams when calculating batting performance. While for the bowling use the minimum of runrate of the two teams as the datum.
this nuthn against bermuda.. but if players performance for a match equivalent to a ranji match is publicized so much den rediff shud takea hike and learn how to write news.. dis is total bullshytt newss..wid purpose of filling up cyberspace.. really disappointing.. dun u have nethin worthwile to write abt nemore

Lets make a plan.. Analyze every match and find the MATCH KE MUJRIM'S either India wins or looses. Now reach to their home and abuse or what so ever altogether posting messages/ putting Blogs / forums etc .. They will perform good in next match. and fear of such actions will force everyone to play the best and top 10 will be all Inidans only....
We shud keep doing that!!! UNTIL WC .. we will be the WC winner again ...
