I have altered rediff's method to some extent to take into account the match situation. As in a high scoring match a low-scoring match, and also bowler's efforts getting rewarded fairly. I have put it on my blog. The evaluation method is defined at http://sudheersahu.blogspot.com/2007/03/most-valuable-player-of-world-cup.html and is applied on first two matches of India in the subsequent articles, which are at http://sudheersahu.blogspot.com/ We can apply the method to all teams all players but for the lack of time I am doing it only on the indian players.
When everybody after viru's head, he quietly tops the MVP list among indians. That might be due to the wickets he took in the previous match. This also shows how badly our bowlers performed that. We cannot always blame the batters because, slight difference in the angle of the bat when it meets the ball, is enough to cause ball popping up, playing on etc. On the other hand it is the bowlers, who can have better control over than the batters. Agarkar was wayward, patel was not at all incisive and Zaheer seems to have gained the form that he showed during 2003 finals. With players like Muralidhar, who incidentally will play a major role in these kinds of pitches,Vaas with his pace and swing plus the wonder boy Malinga, srilanka will be a strong opponent. Unless our players put in a high class performance, India is sure to return home early
