It is silly that you point out that we waste our time watching cricket. Watching sports is one of the biggest means of entertainment. Ask any European (they are crazy about football) or American (baseball or NFL) and you will realize that we Indians are not the only ones who are crazy about sports. Only a few matches (like WC finals or a similar event) has taken its toll on the productivity.
So your statement is not only ridiculous but smells of hypocrisy. My friend, let fans be fans and if you are not one, don't spoil their fun.

Winning the WC should be a collective efforts of the whole team. If our team performs well, then automatically credit goes to captain. In the case of dravid, he is not a leader, but only a doll in the hands of Chappel. He always consults the coach for each and everything. This should not be the case. Once the team is framed out with th capitain, then he should be the guardian and custodian of the team and not the coach. The coach obviously coaches the team and should not interfere once the team is on the ground. Look at our dada, how he led the team as a captain in all respects, as a Dada.

Yes.. There is something you, I and rest of India can do, which is "PRAY". His form, or the lack of it, is going to cost India nearly and dearly. I'd say, play Uthappa ahead of Sehwag.

Sachin? Dravid or Saurav

We have all seen how sachin has played and broken all records. But is he is a matchwinner. when was the last match he won single handedly for India. I rate saurav a better match winner. Dravid is consistency at its best. He has been the backbone of Indian cricket with no credit being given.

that was not semi final match. that was either league match or super six match. bcoz semifinal was a low scoring match being tied.

regarding sachin contribution, his 98 against pakistan in last world cup was of same calibre as steve wagh inning.

if ppl forget sachin's match-winning innings then its ppl fault not sachin fault. If any other player plays a single match winning inning in his whole life then ppl remember that, but nobody remember sachin several match winning innings.

ya i completely agree with u..how could people forget when sachin alone chased the target against australia in sarjah..and took india to qualify for the final in the same innings.I agree kapil is a legend but obviosly Sachin is a far better batsman than Kapil.the number of matches sachin won for india are innumerable.when kapil led the team in 1983 it was an overall performance by ecah individual..may be some players were match winner at their day But we expect sachin to deliver in every match. why the hell u forget the runs scored by him in last three cosecutive worldcup..who the hell is able to do it that consistently..i am sure no one? not even mr. kapil dev...so think before what u say against him? one foolish was saying about steve waugh?Have u forgot what steve told about after getting defeated in sarjah?.."he is the player of stature who can win matches single handedly".have u forgot awhat shane and mcgra used to say about sachin?

Hadlee's Thoughts
by Pat Thakur on Mar 11, 2007 04:54 PM  Permalink

Coming from the mind of a Living Legend (Hadlee is one of my all - time favourites), I think these thoughts are complete in themselves & should be taken seriously by all the Existing Cricketers. What with the World Cup Getting Underway, these thoughts can prove to be the winning formula for serious cricketing souls.

Indians and our misplaced Obsession with Sachin Tendulkar
by on Mar 11, 2007 03:44 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In the evident twilight of his career, Sachin has made the monumental error of judgement ( similar to not knowing where his off stump is) and has insisted on being the vice-captain of the Indian side. He has reached the stage when many of are asking why and not why not. It would have been wise to retire and then go to the Windies as an expert commentator...his voice notwithstanding....I hope I have not irritated his loyal devotees like Avinash, Pradeep, Nithyapriya, etc. Lets hope we still make it to the semi's inspite of our aging army!!

I can't understand what the above article has to do with Sachin Tendulkar. Sir Richard Hadlee is a living legend and this article is just a memoir of his World Cup experiences.
The only person obsessed here is the person who wrote this letter - you are obsessed with maligning Sachin. Your obsession has reached such a frenzy that you bring it up even in this totally irrelevant scenario. I guess that's because the only thing in your mind is critizing Sachin's ardent admirers. All your wisecracks are certainly not in good taste.
There is just one thing I'd like to say. This is definitely not the time for us to criticize Sachin or for that matter anybody else in the team.
I'm sure all of us have a lot to say about Sachin's form, Sehwag's inclusion in the team, Dravid's tactics etc., but there is nothing we can say which will change anything.
This is the time to SUPPORT our team and not criticize our key players. We can only hope and pray that every player performs well and that their collective effort brings home the World Cup.
So let's all stop these unnecessary comments and unitedly cheer for our Team.

hi kunal and others

well the indians craziness of sachin is mindboggling,i agree his statistics is great but can all sachin fans say in how many matches has sachin won us matches, especially overseas, against austrailia/southafrica,his record against a top quality bowling attack against pollocak, megragth, lee, ntini is very poor.his records are good only against mediocre bowling attacks.i and infact the whole cricketing community no longer hold sachin in high esteem because of his performance in the last 4 years and in high pressure sitations??
is there anyone to challange the above??

Tendulkar holds the world record for most Test runs away. He have scored 19 Test centuries away from home. He averages above 50 against Australia in Test cricket. Test matches are won by bowlers. India have had one of the worst bowling attacks in the world. During his 2nd tenure as captain, during the test series defeat(3-0) against Australia, Tendulkar was awarded the Man of the Series. But India lost, how ? Because Tendulkar was the lone warrior for India. Only Tendulkar was performing, with all the other failing except Laxman(1 hundred). If you think Tendulkar should be able to win matches single-handedly, then you should call it Tendulkar vs Australia .... why do you include the rest of the 10 players ?

Hi balaji,
I don't know if u watch cricket matches or just like to talk rubbish. Its true that India has not won that many matches overseas but whatever matches we have won has seen sachin perform like GOD.Who can forget those two matches against australia in sarjah where in 1st sachin took india to final and then also took india to victory. And who told you that whole cricket community dnt hold him in high Esteem.
Warne, the best spinner of our era considers him the best batsman and so does Vivian richards and even father of batting sir Don Bradman told that sachin bats like him and he only kept sachin from this era in his team....There are many more
who thinks sachin is a revelation.
Only some fool like u keep on blabbing the same old stuff and i am sure you may have never played cricket and also u would have never understood the game.
I pray to GOD to give u some brain and make u understand the game.

Opinions should be stated with facts and figures. Everybody can have their opinion, but it needs to be backed up by facts. Since his return from shoulder surgery, Tendulkar have scored 635 runs @ an average of 42.33 with 2 centuries and 4 fifties in ODI games. If that's called bad performance, then I'd certainly like to know the definition of good performance.

I totally agree with Ritwik,
Sachin has crossed his prime 3 years back. But he is so good a player that even after performing below his usual self, he is still amongst the best. This is the reson why he is still there. But not a match winner anymore.

Sachin will make the most runs this time, just like the 1996 and 2003 World Cups. And I feel this time we have good bowlers to support him, so we will win the cup.

The only people who criticize Sachin are some LOSERS.
