English Version of above.....
Group stage The 16 teams have been divided into four groups of four and seeded according to their world ranking (at a cut-off date last year when the schedule was announced). Group A: Australia (1), South Africa (5), Scotland (12), The Netherlands (16) Group B: Sri Lanka (2), India (8), Bangladesh (11), Bermuda (15) Group C: New Zealand (3), England (7), Kenya (10), Canada (14) Group D: Pakistan (4), West Indies (6), Zimbabwe (9), Ireland (13)
TIEBREAKERS IF NECESSARY IN THAT ORDER Team with the most wins Team with the higher net run-rate Team with the most wickets taken by balls bowled Winner of the game between two level teams Draw lots
Each team will play every other team in its group. They will get two points for a win, one point for a tie or no result and nought for a defeat.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the next phase - the Super Eight.
If any teams finish equal on points at the end of the group stages, a series of tiebreakers will be used in order, until one team emerges superior (see right).
Super Eight
There will be 24 matches in the Super Eight, with each team playing each other, except for the one team they have already faced in the group stage. The points from that group stage match will be carried forward to their Super Eight tally.
The top four teams from the Super Eight will progress to the semi-finals and for any tiebreakers the criteria listed in the group stage above will be used.
The Super Eight seeding is the same as used in the first round, based on world ranking, with no notice taken of whether a side finishes first or second in a group.
For example, if South Africa win Group A and Australia come second, for the purposes of the Super Eight, South Africa will still be A2 and Australia will be A1.
If, for example, Scotland qualify instead of Australia, Scotland will become A1.
Semi-finals
The team that finishes first in the Super Eight stage will play the team which finished fourth. Second will play third.
The weather There is a reserve day for every match at the World Cup. Every effort will be made to complete the match on the scheduled day with any necessary reduction in overs taking place. Only if the minimum number of overs (20 per side) cannot be bowled on the scheduled day will the match be completed on the reserve day.
Any incomplete matches will be continued the next day from where they left off - a new game will not be started.
Though there have been sane voices in this msg board already who have understood the schedule, this one- line clarification could help those who haven't :
no matter which two teams qualify from each group, the higher ranked team in the ICC pre-tournament seedings will be 1 and the other team will be 2 . for eg. whoever qualifies from grp B, the higher ranked side will be B1 and the other will be B2, ok? all that is needed is for the teams to qualify ; that is the sole purpose of the grp matches, not to decide positions. so just sit back and hope that the minnows don't cause an upset (esp. in grp B !!)

It seems that u have not understood yet ashwin, if bermuda qualifies instead of lanka, then bermuda will be 1 and india will be 2. even though india has a higher ranking.
If the top 2 ranked teams finish @ the top then then irrespective of who is on top the they will be seeded according to their ranks.
If there is an upset and one non top 2 team qualifies then it will take the place of the top team that failed to qualify, as in the bermuda example.
if there is a double upset then the two qualifying teams will be again seeded according to the rankings.
for eg if india and lanka qualify then india is 2 and lanka 1 if india and bermuda qualify then bermuda is 1 and india 2 if india and bangladesh qualify then bangladesh is 1 and india 2 if lanka and bermuda qualify then bermuda is 2 and lanka 1 if lanka and bangladesh qualify then bangladesh is 2 and lanka 1 if bermuda and bangladesh qualify then bangladesh is 1 and bermuda 2
What if Zimbabwe wins in D group, they ae currently identified as D3, will they then be changed to D1 or D2.It is very clear from the playing conditions that the top 2 teams will be 1 and 2 respectively in their grorp absed on the results of the first round.Don't understand why this meaningless article to win some cheap hits by rediff

The marking A1& A2, B1& B2 etc are based on the rakings of the teams. As per the group B Rankings: Srilanka(#1), India(#2), Bangladesh(#3), Bermuda(#4).
Lets see few combinations:
If SriLanka and India qualify for super8 no matter who stands first in the group , Srilanka will be B1 and India will be B2.
If India and Bangladesh Qualify: India will be B2 and Bangladesh will take position of Srilanka: B1
If India & Bermuda qualify: India will be B2 and Bermuda will take position of Srilanka: B1
If SriLanka and Bangladesh Qualify: SriLanka will be B1 and Bangladesh will take position of India: B2
If Srilanka & Bermuda qualify: SriLanka will be B1 and Bermuda will take position of India: B2
If Bermuda and BanglaDesh Qualify: Bangladesh will be B1 as its ranked 3 in group and Bermuda will be B2 as its ranked #4.
Pak will not be able to beat india at any cost.Men in blue r more dangerous and r hungry for WC2007.Pride of senior players is at stake.World knows when India comes to its terms then they are unstopable.HOOOOO HAAAAA INDIA AAYA INDIA.

well.. the only thing baseless here are your comments! the article is perfectly fine and highlights how financials affect the game..

will agree with Prateek on this...very clever and well thought plan...its not like those conspiracy theory things..this is real..why else wud one not let the better performin team in the group stages be ranked as 1 in the groups?..this is a stand alone tournament..the division of teams into groups can be based on rankings..but not the postion in the groups.
C'Mon people are smarter than you think. D1 means whoever is # 1 after all matches in Pool D and B2 means whoever is #2 in Pool B after all 1st round matches.
It is ridiculous to draw the conclusion and MISLEAD people.

Pakistan is gonna be D1 only....y u ppl dont believe this, this is all decided prior only according to the ICC rankings..so india will be B2 and pak will be D1

the rankings are permanent. Mr.Ankit is spot on - India can only be B2 even if we finish ahead of Srilanka(and srilanka will remain B1 even if thez finish second). Same in other groups. Rediff is right.

"Team names for the Super Eight stage are indicative based on the top two teams from the Group Stage qualifying. If these two teams do qualify they will be seeded in position 1 or 2 as specified regardless of whether they finish first or second in their group. For example, if South Africa wins Group A and Australia comes second, for the purposes of the Super Eights, South Africa will still be A2 and Australia will be A1."

Yes, Madhu is absolutely correct. We have won 4 out of 4 matches against Pakistan in World Cup.
The above article by the rediff is the worst article, even my servant is aware about the B2 and D1 concept, but not rediff. Wake up Guys. Try to be honest, dont fool us. I am damn sure that India will become B1.
REDIFF HOW U KNOW INDIA WILL BE B2 IF INDIA BEAT SRI LANKA INDIA WILL BE B1. SO DO NOT TRY TO BE SMART TO PROMOTE UR SITE. OTHERWISE WE CAN SUE U TO GIVE WRONGINFORMATION TO CUSTOMER.
