Some TRUE some FALSE
by Shekar on Mar 05, 2007 11:45 PM  Permalink

Friends, There is some true and some false in this article. Don't get excited guys.

The Fact is: Till today morning, ICC site itself given the predicted winners in group stage and their Super8 matches. Assuming that only the top 8 ranked teams goes to Super8, India vs Pak match will be on April 15. But, it is a fault from ICC side predicting only top ranked will get into Super8, it should have just given like B1 Vs A1.. But, they kept a note saying about their prediction.

The False is: The Author forgot to copy the whole paragraph from ICC site, missed line: "If these top ranked teams do not qualify from their group they will be replaced in their indicative position by the team that qualifies instead of them. For example, if Scotland qualifies instead of Australia, Scotland will become A1."
By this, we should know all the teams have chances to win the cup.

Common guys, After all, all the teams in Super8 should play against all others except the one already played in group stage. For me, its good to know about the schedule of Super8 before time, so that I can plan accordingly.

Anyway, I pity on rediff to publish a poor article with a stupid headline and false information.

It is a foolish article
by on Mar 05, 2007 11:43 PM  Permalink

I think it is a foolish article. Just dont ridicule something for the sake of seeing your name in the print. I think the author should realize that since the format of Super 8 is almost finalized (on the assumption that minnows dont pull out a kenyagiri!!!), it is really convenient for people who want to go to Carribean to watch these matches......they know where they need to be and when they need to be there....

So think before you write nonsense

Breaking News: Useless Rediff Cricket Writer Fired
by Satyanarain Daga on Mar 05, 2007 11:40 PM  Permalink

I totally concur with the sentiments expressed by most of the previous comment posters.

The idiotic author of this article knows nothing about the Cricket World Cup. He has no right to be writing about this event. Rediff folk - if you are reading this, fire him.

There is a reason why the ICC chalked up this schedule and there is a reason why teams will be positioned a certain way. There are thousands of people traveling to the World Cup and this ICC plan totally makes sense.

I am not going to spend time elaborating on the reasons because many people have done the same already.

Bottomline, the breaking news should be this author is fired. I am bloody looking for his name.

Know your stuff b4 u talk
by noel jonas on Mar 05, 2007 11:40 PM  Permalink

Why are u misguiding the entire cricketing population?? Please know what you are talking before printing such misguiding stuff. The schedule has been drawwn, and teams have been pre-seeded not only for TV audiences, but also to allow for touring supporters to book their tickets and dates, cos (if you do not know) the world cup is being held in different countries comprising the WI. So they need to get their visas done too. The seeding has no effect on the points they carry into the super-8s whatsoever. Even if Aus lose to SA and stay A1, it will be SA who will be carrying 2 points into the Super-8s, and Aus will go in with none. So pls dont blabber. Know ur stuff b4 u speak it.

Read the ICC website completely

Posting from ICC Website - Which this authoer failed to read

"Team names for the Super Eight stage are indicative based on the top two teams from the Group Stage qualifying. If these two teams do qualify they will be seeded in position 1 or 2 as specified regardless of whether they finish first or second in their group. For example, if South Africa wins Group A and Australia comes second, for the purposes of the Super Eights, South Africa will still be A2 and Australia will be A1. If, for example, Scotland qualifies instead of Australia, Scotland will become A1"

Likely, but not guaranteed !
by lakshmi bollu on Mar 05, 2007 11:33 PM  Permalink

Needless sensationalization on part of the author of this article !

It is very likely that India will play Pakistan on April 15th but it is not guaranteed at all.

Per the Super 8 schedule, the match on April 15th is D1 vs B2. If Pakistan finishes in top 2 in Group D, it will be D1. Similarly, if India finishes in top 2 in Group B, it will be B2. Note that India will be B2 even if it tops Group B because this assignment is based on ICC ODI team rankings.

But, who can guarantee that India and Pakistan WILL be in top 2 of their respective groups ?
