This was done to make sure that big teams(i mean with lot of viewers) like India will have more matches on weekends. Its a win-win situation for both Icc and Viewers.

The author is correct!

The marking A1& A2, B1& B2 etc are based on the rakings of the teams. As per the group B Rankings: Srilanka(#1), India(#2), Bangladesh(#3), Bermuda(#4).

Lets see few combinations:

If SriLanka and India qualify for super8 no matter who stands first in the group , Srilanka will be B1 and India will be B2.

If India and Bangladesh Qualify: India will be B2 and Bangladesh will take position of Srilanka: B1

If India & Bermuda qualify: India will be B2 and Bermuda will take position of Srilanka: B1

If SriLanka and Bangladesh Qualify: SriLanka will be B1 and Bangladesh will take position of India: B2

If Srilanka & Bermuda qualify: SriLanka will be B1 and Bermuda will take position of India: B2

If Bermuda and B%u2019Desh Qualify: B%u2019desh will be B1 as its ranked 3 in group and Bermuda will be B2 as its ranked #4.

The same holds true in all groups.

Got it guys???????

Crap!!!!!!!
by Surya TheGreat on Mar 06, 2007 03:52 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This is absolute crap. A1/A2 or B1/B2 will be decided end of the first round. What if Bangaladesh defeats both India and SL.Don't say this is most unlikely. It happened once or twice already. If India fails to win the match against SL then B1 will be Bangaladesh and B2 will be SL. So don't take things for granted.

what the author has written will hold true only if india makes it to the top two in its own group.. for more clarification please read my post below.

If India fails to win the match against SL then B1 will be Bangaladesh and B2 will be SL - this is incorrect as Bangladesh if it qualifies in the top two alongwith Sri Lanka will always be B2 and not B1 because it ranked below in ICC ratings at the end of 2005 when the world cup schedule was drawn up.

what the author has written is absolutely true; in fact this is no breaking news but has been out there for atleast 6 months now. we bought our tickets to the carribean 6 months ago based on this information which is also available on the world cup official website. it's unbelievable that many people in india are ignorant about this information!

more clarification - click on above link and note in the boxes there are rankings next to each country, for eg. australia its 1 and south africa is 5.. which means that A1 will be australia and A2 will be south africa irrespective of how they finish in the top two of their group. this ranking for the grouping was frozen at the end of the 2005 season and the schedules were drawn up so it becomes easier for cricket followers to visit the many islands of west indies and plan their stay and travel accordingly to avoid chaos in these small countries.

No the author is not wrong!!!!

I will write in simple plain english what the author wants to explain.

No matter what, whether India finishes 1st or 2nd in groupB it will stand as B2 in super 8. This means even if india wins all group B matches, still India will be marked as B2 though they stand at the top of the group.

B2 does not mean they are 2nd in group.

I guess this helps.

i dont know why guys are not able to under stand. If pakistan does not qulaify for super eight, it wont be d1. it will be the team who qualifies first in the group. All this markings (b1, b2 etc) are based on the rankings of the teams.

Since india is currently raked #2 in group it will qualify as B2 if it manages to go to super eight. If india does not qualify, but Srilanka and B'desh qualify then SriLanka will get B1 and bangladesh will get B2...

If you still don't understand, I dont know what to say.

check this out...it describes the way A1, A2 etc are designated. It is not, unfortunately, based on team standings in the grp.
