India may not be B2
by A butler on Mar 06, 2007 10:04 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

On the other hand India may be B1 or India may be history in the super 8 stage. The second stage is more likely as we are going to loose to Bangladesh and Sri lanka . Maybe victory against bermuda but just a consolation. We should not even bother to see cricket after march 23.

Have they changed the schedule after this article came up?
by Srevats Subromanaim on Mar 06, 2007 07:58 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The official site for world cup was not available for viewing for sometime yesterday night (India time). This morning, the site does not show the details the author of this article has taken up for writing. All the super-8 matches are now shown as TBC vs TBC. What does that mean? I thought it was no bad idea to seed them the way they had done as it would help people plan their viewing. what does the latest development(changing the details in the official site) mean? Does india still play pakistan on april 15?

TBC denotes To Be Confirmed, means, there's been a speculation already. Only, a confirmation remains.

I had saved the original page before the ICC changed it. It clearly is written as the author has described in the article. You are slow to look at the site buddy.

with all due regards to you, i was just trying to point out the fact that there seems to be a change in the site after the article came up. i saw the site yesterday as well and am not late as you think so. And i do understand what TBC means..

My objective was to point out that they have changed it and was trying to understand if they were trying to correct something.

Abey yaar,

That's evident, not from TBCs, but from the kind of seeding. This is, of course, not bad, weighs past record in the Group stages.

lamest article ever
by vimal raj on Mar 06, 2007 07:54 AM  Permalink

this is to the fellow who has written this article. If u r not sure about whats in the official website u can keep ur mouth shut. As per ICC rules teams will be ranked a1 or a2 based on seedings andn no as per points table. The purpose of this is so that viewers can know which date is their country playing and make their travel arrangements accordingly. Here a1 doesnt means first place it just a tag given as per seedings. If one of the minnow countries knock out a seeded country then the spot will be given to that country. So if south africa is knocked out by ireland say it will be given the A1 tag.ITS purely for making travel arrangements easier and nothing else.Rediff should make sure about the facts written in the article before publishing it

I am not very knowledgeable with respect to rules and regulations of the cricket world cup. But if what is given in the article is true then ICC should definitely qualify for the gold medal in "fixing" the matches. It puts all other fixers to the side because ICC has achieved this months in advance. Hats off ICC and the officials who manage

They have not fixed the results of the matches. They ONLY fixed the labelling of potential teams in the Super8 -- and the resultant scheduling -- so as to maximise their TV revenues. Perfectly sane thing to do in my view.

THE RULES ARE VERY CLEAR.. YOU JUST NEED TO READ THEM
by Vivek Viswanathan on Mar 06, 2007 06:54 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Each team will carry forward its result against the other team qualifying from its preliminary stage group, and will play the other six qualifying teams once each. The top four teams in the league will qualify for the semi-finals.

Actually, its pretty clear. It says :

"Each team will carry forward its result against the other team qualifying from its preliminary stage group, and will play the other six qualifying teams once each. The top four teams in the league will qualify for the semi-finals."

It also continues to say :

"The fixtures (below) for the Super 8 league relate to A1 being the first seed in group A, A2 the second, B1 the first in group B etc, as the expected qualifiers from each group. It does not refer to the actual league placings from round one."
