Also, besides ad revenues, they wanted to make sure that people buying tickets knew when certain matches would be played
by on Mar 19, 2007 09:51 AM  Permalink

This way people would know exactly what dates to buy tickets for. For example, an Indian fan would know exactly which days India would play and buy tickets for those matches. Same for Paki fans (who will need to sell their tickets to Irish fans at substantial discount). Remember, even if West Indies win the group, they will be D2 and either Ireland or Zimbabwe will be D1.

Article is absolutely right - Here's the link

The ICC has deleted the original Super 8 Schedule from their web-site. (smart guys !!!) But, I searched the internet and managed to find the Super 8 schedule (based on the assumption that the top 8 teams would qualify).

http://www.cricketworldcuplatest.com/news/international-cricket-council-announces-super-8-dr-11395.html

For people who are confused, remember its deosn't matter whether the teams finish first or second in their group. Australia is assigned A1 and South Africa A2. Srilanka is B1 and India B2. etc. If Bangladesh make it and India doesn't, Sri lanka will be A1 and Bangladesk will be B2. If India and bangladesh make it, Bangladesh will be B1 and India B2. (The new team simply takes over the assignment of the team they replace) This was done to ensure that the big matches (India/Pak/Aus etc.) fell on weekends so that to get maximum Ad revenue etc.

Now, the ICC looks like idiots (pak gone, India will follow them) so they have deleted the link on their web-site.

DearIndia and Pakistan

The world has learned cricket, so it is time for you to take the side-seat, and let the Europeans or maybe Americans drive, like what you had done in case of Hockey !!!

Enjoy Cricket !!!

by sathish kumar on Mar 18, 2007 12:40 PM  Permalink

Now the author may realize that anything may happen in one day cricket. So better not to conclude early. This is not the first incident. We have seen many in previous world cups too.
