The initial question to be answered is : Whether it is necessary for such a security cover?
If ICC has awarded the previlege of holding the WC to WI, they would have taken all precautions, they would have cinducted all these tests, and being satisfied with all the arrangements available in WI to conduct an event of this magnitude.
WC is not a small event when ICC would want to take chances. In such a light of circmstances it is evident and obvious the security system provided by WI would be sufficient and meet the requirements of the situation.
If ICC, at any point of time, would have had reasons to believe that WI would not be able to meet the required standards, then the venue might have been changed, if warranted.
What is being objected over here is the cost of sending such a high profile team which is felt to be unnecessary.
Nobody has made a remark about the capability and efficiency of the NSG commandos. It is a well known fact that NSG are the ULTIMATE in terms of security.No doubt about that.
But is it necessary to send such a team to WI? Are our players so unsafe in WI? Will WI, being the host for this prestigious event compromise on the security of the players converging from all the member countries?

yes..why stop the boys in blue enjoying themselves. if i was a player..(oh..did i mention i bowled leg spin??)..and all the ladies threw themselves at me..i wouldnt want the commandos stopping my fun..they can stop my wife making contact with me..thats ok..
I have been reading all this and have been pretty amused by the reactions of all and sundry.
Let me first update these 'learned' people about the NSG commandoes. Commandoes are a special class of force who have been trained to operate in extreme, hostile conditions. They are trained to survive without food/water supplies just living off the land for over a week. They are capable of unarmed hand-to hand- combat and are trained in martial arts. They are a crack force and can use all kinds of weapons and of course have the world's most advanced small-arms fire power.
These are 'fighting machines' who are trained for combat and will DIE in their bid to protect or carry out any kind of warfare. Do any of you know the meaning of 'trained to die'??!! They will not flinch, and can come in the line of hostile fire if required.
This is the force which has been sent out to protect the 'men in blue'. Now if you are suggesting this is a waste of an exercise or maybe an overkill considering, general security could have been deployed then maybe you have a point.
But to say that THEY are going for a free trip to WI, maybe just too presumptuous!! These are men who will make the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. I would give them this leash to take this 'free trip', if thats what you are all pained about. THEY DESERVE IT!!
Another theory would be a small force of NSG commandoes would be more effective than a whole battalion of para-military force so it becomes cheaper to send out this small team.
I can vouch for them and say that if they are assigned a task, it can only be a MAD suicide bomber (even he will find it tough) who could bridge this 'wall'. They will follow the assigned task to the 'T' ! No compromises, and so even if our dear men in blue, decide to slip out for a little party (a la Shoaib), they will not be able to do so, because the 'men in black' will ensure no such thing happens.
So rest in peace gentlemen and ladies; here are pros (for a change) who are out on a task. At least you could rest assured NOTHING will happen to our pampered lot of 'men in blue'....

A rejoinder: The NSG or 'Black Cat Commandoes' are the most elite force amongst the Commandoes in general. They are hand picked from the entire commando teams across the forces.....

According to the report above,the West Indies board is keen that the NSG team should come for the protection of our players. Why was the cup awarded to them if secuity was not adequate ? It is well known what happens over there. Remember the beer bottle which was thrown at Steve Waugh which missed him by a wisker. Not to mention the pitch invasions which are quiet common.

Mr. Sanjay Thakkar, pls. do not say like that. They are also humans. they have their families. We should wish to all the men in bluw to play well in West Indies and try hard to keep the WC 2007 in India.
How can you be allowed to host world's biggest Cricket event when you can not provide proper security to the participents. Also spare a thought for poor Sachin, as if the pressure to perform in the World Cup was not enough, poor guy will have to worry about LeT also now.
It is all a gameplan of the intelligence officials. Some officials wanted to have a FREE TRIP to WI to witness the WC. So they have come up with this idea.
It is highly unlikely for the host country NOT to arrange for security for the players for such an important tournament when players for all the member countries would be present for playing the tournament.
No other country seems to be sending any security team. It is only India doing so.
Definitely ICC would have done their study of the kind of security available in WI for conducting this tournament.
If ICC felt that the security cover available was insufficient, it would have informed all themember countries about this. But that does not seem to have happened.
It is only our intelligent guys want to have a free trip at the cost of the gullible tax payers.
All honest tax payers should resist these kind of silly things.

itis very serious in nature when the host is not taking care of guests across the world ,it should be made mandatory to host countries, and responsibility lies with them,as the geography/location is known to only locals,they can forsee the danger and act,outsider is always a outsider

Dear friends,
It shows dual policy of ICC and its western friends. When there is any incident in Asian countries, ICC and some western countries will cry like babies for security. For instance, when there were bomb blasts in London, England and Australia were busy playing in London. But, if same thing would have happened in any of the Asian (particularly in sub-continent), they would have left the country and ICC would have allowed them to go.
Similarly, in past South Africa had complained about secutiry in some Asian countries but this team is ignoring the fact that situation in their country is no better.
So, all Asian teams should unite and kick ICC hard to blow out all double standards which are deeply rooted in it.
