Let us wish goodluck to Team India! Mistakes have been made! Non performers have been included. A better team selection was possible. bla... bla... bla... It is impossible to please everyone in our country. We are not asking Vengsarkar to do that. At the same time, Vengsarkar cannot ignore our national interests. Where is the difference between our corrupt politicians and Vengsarkar if he is letting in his personal interests over our Indian interests?
Let us forget the damage done to our team by our stupid biased selectors. As we get closer to the mega event, let us put aside "What could have been done attitude?" and focus on "How to win the world cup?" within these self-imposed guidelines. There are still some good talent in our team who can win the cup for us.
I feel that if they are not going to play Irfan in the West Indies, then they should rather leave him behind in India, because that will do more damage to him. He is going through an emotional change - he now has a girlfriend in his life and it is definitely affecting him; i dont care what other people say about it. It is affecting him in some way or the other, whether he cares to admit it or not.
vengsarkar has done pretty well in his role as chairman.iam sure that pathan and shewag would not have been picked if not for dravid. there is no fault in asking pathan to play domestic matches as it is the only way he can regain some form. Its disappointing that a player like pathan when going through a bad patch should volunteer himself to lay matches rather than sitting out in dressing room and in my opinion vengsarkar has done nothing wrong

I honestly believe that Irfan's emotional state of mind is not right at the moment, purely because of this girlfriend issue in South Africa - Irfan needs to admit to the world that he has a lady love in South Africa and then he will feel much better, because it is obviously weighing heavily on his mind. Perhaps he has not even discussed this with his close friends and family? I am sure that this is his problem
First of all selection of Pathan into the WC team in itself is wrong if the Selectors were not sure of his fitness, over and above asking him to prove his fitness in Deodhar trophy or else his ticket WC will be cancelled.(Like a mother taunting her child for some misdeed and later accepting the child's misdeed and offering the cake. Second thing is Rahul Dravid's declaration of some players getting even before the Selection Commitee met on to choose players for WC. Vengsarkar's & Dravid's declarations are allowed with out any comments from the World of BCCI. BCCI is unmanagerial and seems only intrested in overfilling its coffers. I am no more intrested in discussing about the players selected be on merit or otherwise.I fail to understand whether BCCI is the authority or Vengsarkar & Dravid
He wanted the best persons and his warning to Irfan was correct too. However, he spoke his mind too soon. Once he came to know about the ICC rules that changing Irfan would be next to impossible (the unfit rule would have been difficult to enforce, I think).
Further, I believe he has been strongly influenced by the captain to include the players like:
Kumble - the last World Cup for him - we pray he really does well & we never doubt his commitment even though he appears out of sorts in this form of the game now;
Sehwag - ideally should have been dropped like Pathan in the last ODI series in South Africa to give him more time to prepare! - hope he can discover his form back again soon (Kaif was better bet - he was our the lead player last time in WI - check that! - and any day better fielder!); and
Pathan - he does not deserve as per current form to go - Powar would have been better alternative to him (or RP Singh) - all the batsmen will try to take charge against him knowing that he is low on confidence - let's hope he gets his confidence back soon.
Cricket is a team game. We want majority to succeed to win a game. We cannot rely on a few talents like Tendulkar, Sehwag, and Irfan all the time. Amongst these three, they have won most of the games for India as opposed to other heavy weights like Rahul Dravid, Saurav Ganguly, and Yuvraj Singh. I am sure, even in this world cup Irfan, Sehwag, and Tendulkar will shine. Will others render a helping hand to these ever reliable three?
If you can recall, Sehwag was the lone fighter in the last world cup final when others succumbed to Aussies like a pack of cards. Sehwag ran out of partners in the deciding game. Otherwise, we would have won the cup. Sehwag will get back with a vengeance to win the cup for us. Sachin as always has been in good nick and will be a big time contributor in this mega tournament. Irfan, the selectors have shown lot of faith in you. Please take this as a great opportunity and find your winning rythm. If you perform at 50% of your potential we have the cup under our belt. Ponting and Hussey had a nightmare with your bowling in the past. It is not going to be easy for them to face you Pathan, if you bowl even to your 50% potential.

You said every thing right but the last sentence, in my opinion.
If you see my msg below responding to Karina. pathan is very outside chance to get a chance to play. So apart form that I am with you and Ausies will find a better bowling squad to tackle while they are missing Martyn their pivot. Whiel our batting is bolstered further.
We should pray for the success of Indian team in the world cup. Should we plan to pray for a minute, sharp @ 11:00 am on March 1st? Our positive prayers will help the team handle difficult situation with ease.

Good to see that we are now relying on prayers because the team has no other hope. BTW which god will we pray to? I am from South and have totally different dieties to the ones people have in the North. What about religion, my friend follows a different religion. Should be involve the BJP and RSS who have more experience in such matters. Can we decide that before committing to a National time of prayer? There are far more problems in our country than our cricket team, if you really need to pray for anything, please open today's newspaper and you will find 100 things that you need to pray for.
Enough is enough guys. So, what if Vengsarkar has made a few mistakes? Nobody is perfect. Let us set aside the mistakes and move on to see how best we can perform with our mix of talents. We want to win the world cup and we will go all out to get the cup.
Vengsarkar has been a selector for only six months and there is no point in blaming someone for the inclusion of a few non performing players. If he was a selector for a longer time, he wouldn%u2019t have definitely included these non performers. Let us give him the benefit of doubt and move on.
If Rahul Dravid is smart, he will use Pathan in the initial overs. That way, bowlers who follow Pathan will have a clear idea of the expected containing rate. Also, Rahul Dravid will open the inning with Tendulkar and Sehwag and follow up with Uthappa, and Ganguly so the real openers Ganguly and Uthappa will come on to play immediately as openers.
Considering what we have in talent, I think this is the best team we can put forth and also on an average good day (tornament) they can win it for us.
The only weak link here is Sehwag with his form Uthapaa with his experence.
And Pathan and Karthik some what back ups for those weak links. Sreesanth if a bowler breaks down. Now the bench is very weak so we should just hope we wouldnt need them.
Pathan can be a strength if he call bowl like he did in the past but I dont see him getting the chance or him feeling the confidence. But too late in the game now. Fingers crossed for only great people can come out of a situation he is in and hope he becomes great.

Dear All, Let's proceed match by match this time. I suggest we should try out the team suggested by K Sateesh (same line-up too)in the first match itself against Bangladesh on 17th March, to test it out. If it works, fine. Then we can try out Kartik, Pathan,Sreesanth & Kumble in place of Sehwag, Zaheer, Agarkar & Harbhajan in the next match against Bermuda on 19th. This way, all 15 would have played at least one match each and gained valuable Tournament experience before meeting Sri Lanka on 23rd March in the most crucial match. Whatsay all ?

rajendra,
I doubt that others will get a look in so fast. I think the above team has to play a couple of matchs before it takes on a good team.
So I think it has to play bangladesh and bermuda. I mean nothing will come out really glaring of those matchs apart from the fact that players will get a look into the grounds and what they can purchance of it and gel. I doubt if, apart from Pathan, any body else from the bench of kumble, sreesanth and karthick will get a chance to play before india plays a couple of strong teams.
And even then if we do well they will never get a chance unless some body is injured.

Completely Agree with you Satish. The same lineup I have in my mind except Dravid comes before Yuvraj. I do not understand why do we need to change our opening pair with Sachin and Sehwag as Karina suggested. May be, we can send Sehwag depends on the opening partnership, we can send Sehwag as 1st down if we loose first wicket before 10-15 overs, otherwise we can send him in slog overs(35-50 overs). Pathan can be tested against weak teams in Group stage to regain his form. And Sreesanth can be include in place of Agarkar/Munaf based on their performances.

Exactly the way I think about Sehwag. he comes in only if there is a quick wkt in the first 10 overs.
And I strongly feel Yuvraj should come ahead of Dravid. Reason being: Yuvraj likes to play in a bit and once gets going doesnt get bogged down no matter what. Dravid on the other hand is doing fantastic adapting to different situations and even sloging in his own style. And lately his partnerships with Dhoni have been statistcally and visualy a treat to watch.

I am actually in love with the Dravid-Dhoni combo lately.
They are finishing matchs in great style and no target under, pressure or not, is unachevable. They have both the steel and the explosive power needed for finishs.
Not that Yuvraj lacks to far behind in this. But Yuvraj have seen him taking good control in the middle and Dravid doing great finishing with Dhoni.

Have you forgotten the 17 record wins India achieved last year with Yuvi and Dhoni finishing things off in style game after game.
Well it all depends on the situation, if a wicket falls against the run of play then Dravid should be sent to consolidate other wise Yuvraj can go ahead and keep the scoring rate up. In that case Dravid might not be needed at all since Dhoni would be a natural choice after that in the slog overs.
Vengsarkar thinks he is very smart and he can do away with whatever he likes. Indian team is going to pay a big price because of his stupidity. Vengsarkar doesn't follow what he preaches and doesn't preach what makes sense. He is another non-thinker in the composition of the Indian team. He is openly implementing bias based politics within cricket. Thanks to Vengsarkar's openness in institutionalizing favoritisms, we have players like Irfan Pathan, Sehwag, and Sachin Tendulkar in our team. Well done Vengsarkar! Keep up your bias, favoritisms, and discreet practices. You are doing lot good to the Indian team and society. Great work Vengi....

So according to you Mr.Pandey we need to have cricketers like amay khrasiya, hrishikesh kanitkar, sameer dighe, T Kuaran, Paras mahambrey since they are all more talented than mere sachin tendulkar. My advise to u: Stop following cricket. (If thats what u tgought were doing so far). Nyways best wishes to team India.
