Worst World Cup Ever
by No Returns on Apr 29, 2007 05:49 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

2007 World cup was the worst World Cup Ever...

1. Teams were moon walking not really playing hard

2. Most of the matches were one sided and boring

3. After Bob W. case players and officials it seems just wanted to finish and go home. Commentators were not excited to comment and I did not learn anything new by listening to them.

4. Final really summarized the world cup at least for India, Wet (everyone cried) Cut short(after India's early return), disappointing and dark.

5. Australia plays like professionals rest play as if playing the gully cricket. Srilanka really tried but were defeated only by one man.

6. Greg Chappell was 'planted' in India for India's early exit. He created rift among players, between Board and players, among Indian People, Players and board. India and Pakistan in their best form are the only teams that can defeat Australia.

7. For Australia the world cup starts in the previous world cup for Srilanka New Zealand, it starts on the first day of the world cup. For India it starts after they invariably lose the first match. For England and W. Indies it never starts. Pakistan is an enigma.

8. Australia has become dynasty like the Clive Lloyds West Indies team. All other teams look sad even before they play them. E..g Murlitharan is a model for toothpaste ad when he plays with any other team. Always grinning from ear to ear. Today he probably was a model for a shaving cream.

If Greg Chappell, a foreigner can simply come in and create a "rift" amongst a group of 11 Indinas, then well, we dont deserve to be united.

True Abhinav,

His last parting shot to Sachin was that Sachin doesn't play to win. Which may or may not be true but he should have told that to the board and Sachin directly but he many a times used press which is the worst way to coach a team. It is like a manager reprimands an employee right in front of the whole company

Clint,

The point that I am trying to make is that a coach will always find numerous faults with players, that is his job and also his job is to fix them not to take everything that he finds to media just to save his own backside.

Mr. No Returns R u crazy.... do u follow news properly.... Greg never used media watever he presented was to the board... it was players like Sachin, sourav and board who used media to get out of muddle they landed themselves by giving emotional dialogues and past performances...

Well done Greg....

Not again!!!

After India got kicked out,I was just hoping that Australia wouldnt win the trophy....any team would have been okay as long as it was not Australia.
Looking back at their performace, and their total domination of all other teams,I guess I have to just live the fact that they are truly the greatest team ever.28 straight wins in World Cup is no joke and it is sad that they have only themselves to challenge.
If India has to even think of being a force to reckon with, instead of copying the Aussie team, the BCCI should emulate the deeds of Cricket council Australia in the early 1990s .They should improve the cricket infrastructure in India. They have the money and the power.I wonder why nobody in the council is even thinking of owning up.

You are absolutely correct. The biggest contrast between India and Australia is the way youngsters are introduced to the game from early ages. In India, we just start playing cricket, without any coaching, nobody to correct our mistakes, no equipments, no grounds, nothing. By the time they are introduced to big league, they pick up vulnerabilities that are not easy to fix later in the career. In India, a lots of raw talent is wasted because of lack of early coaching. Do we care about fitness until getting the selection to the Indian team?
In Australia, kids start off with proper training and equipments. And they constantly revaluate to fix their flaws. Thus they create excellent cricketers out of average talents.

No wonder Australians keep on winning consistently.

Aleem Dar and Steve Bucknor
by Sanjay Prakash on Apr 29, 2007 05:31 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Prem Panicker is absolutely right in asking whether messrs Dar and Bucknor are the best officials the ICC can put forward. Their failure to provide some basic umpiring was exposed and the game ended in a farce. Dar's effort in warning Michael Clarke for running on the pitch was a joke after he had faced his first ball. Continual lack of professionalism by the ICC is exposing the holes in the game and it's long term future. Malcolm Speed and Percy Sonn have much to answer. But as always they will head back to the plus surrounds of the ICC headquarters in Dubai and forget the farcical end to the final.

You cant blame the ICC alone for the lack of quality umpires. What has the BCCI done to create quality umpires in India? There isnt one international level umpire in India.

Dravid is a Officeman - not a sportsman
by Sunil Kumar on Apr 29, 2007 05:25 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I think the board of selectors need to take cue from the Australian team and think about who the captian wouild be, instead of again continuing with Dravid. Of course, Dravid may be gentleman, nice person to talk to off the field, and may say yes to every condition and rule the board puts in, but remember the team always looks for inspiration and emulates the captian. We would need a captian who is agile like Ricky Ponting, Ajay Jadeja might have been an inspiration if he was not banned from playing cricket. The captian should have a wide smile, he should be agile, he should have reflexes that inspire the rest to perform on the field, he should look more of a sportsperson and always be moving on the field rather than a static person, and he should himself put so much on the board that he can question the teammates for their nonperformance, and above all, he should think of what best resources he has at hand and how to use them, rather than saying "I want Sehwag in the world cup team", which lead only to come out of the world cup.

So we want a sportsman at the helm not a officeman if we want the cricket in India to reach to its glory.

Let me at the end congratulte the Australian team for their superb performance and spirit for the game and country.

We do not have a player who is a certainty for both ODI and test matches except Rahul Dravid and hence his selection is automatic for the post. Sad plight of our team.

Hats off to Aussies. You deserve it. The hardworker always gets the reward and not the one that look like working hard (INDIA).

Cheers
