It is very easy
by Girish Rao on Apr 23, 2007 11:18 AM  Permalink

for Gavaskar to criticize Greg Chappell as he is not a Maharashtrian, why does'nt he criticize Sachin Tendulkar and the Indian batting for failing in the WC. After all the coach doesnt play and even if he is a bad coach, Sachin and other paper tigers are expected to play well, they are not kids they are experienced players

Sunil Gavaskar's game
by ramakrishnan balasubramanian on Apr 23, 2007 11:17 AM  Permalink

Sunil blaming Greg Chappell for the current state of the Indian Team, is just one among the many he has been doing all through his life.. During his playing days, he was never supportive of his own team members. Sunil was more interested in creating records for himself and such was his dominance over the establishment that no action was ever contemplated. Without contributing anything worthwhile for the game after his playing days, he is now like the proverbial pot - calling the kettle black.

for question 2) yes we did remember 2004 Champions trophy.
for question 1) we were humiliated in the finals and the only reason we reached finals was because our bowlers bowled well and we had Kenya as our S/F opponents. Our bowlers bowled badly in finals and we lost. r batting is/was always overrated. We batted well only against Pak in a important match

Q1 - during WC03 sacin batted brillently and dravid did keeping for team cause to add one more extra batsman and srinath bowled to his heart? where was captain when team required his service? sewag and dravid scored in final match
MOST IMP IN Wc 2007 IT SENIOR PLAYERS BACKSTABBED DRAVID. MAINLY GANGULY?? any win WC match would have harmed the record of ganguly
ganguly and gang had major role in WC debacle rather than dravid's captincy?/
WHAT ABOUT TEAM EXIT IN 1ST ROUND DRUING CHAMPIOSN TROPHY 2004 IN ENGLAND ??
Q2 team ind won champions trophy not b;cuz of ganguly leadership but rain spoil the game and SL and ind delcared joint winnier
3 ganguly only promoted groupism. LAXMAN KUMBLE Were not fitted in his group and shown door even after the good performance.??
team selection during ganguly's cpaticny done by dalmiay and ganguly both were fullpower thought nobody will dethrone them from the seat
ganguly is selfish oppertunist, he is not only promoting goupism, but spoiling sportsman spirit of younger player like bajji, zahi, dhoni by encouraging to play petty politics
Pls highlight dravid's contributions to gangyl's succes as captain
if ganguly is great leader or sports mand ( as u think) should have reciprocate 50%what dravid has contribted for his success of five yers.
gangulu had last laugh that he got rid of chappell and humiliated dravid
but He is looser see public poll result almost 50% supported dravid's captaincy and mejority favoured the decision of resting sperstares for BD odi series.
Before WC debacle if there was poll for captaincy 90% would have voted for ganguly and many turned to dravid, yuvraj, sachin...
some channels like ndtv, news papers go on dravid bashing ( see the jadeja's comments) and praise ganguly...even ganguly marketing stretagy/ flamebouncy is not helping...

Lack of commitment, fighting spirit, negative body language, playing for self recores, to cement place for next matches, sponsers, poor fielding, trying to expose each on the field, promoting groupism etc.. Has coach told instructed for all these??
chappell's big mistake was he treated all players alike, equally and push the players from comfort zone. many superstars were taken their placed for granted....

great post, you know what, in what we call ndiscipline, was an inherent passion to excel, wan a planning from the captain every time they faced challenges, like down under or pakis, or world cup. they were almost world beaters, time was to move on and conquer, irony they have moved back and are nowhere, wish they can do something about it, unfortunately, its late, mr.gavaskar, u and saurav foughtto get chappell with th eright intentions, but unfortunately you guys picked the wrong guy.. u ppl have great harm to this nation by getting this crook to coach india

Its very simple, the logic of great sportsman as a great man said - " Give them everything, spoil them and then you expect. You will see them perform above expectations," & this holds good for the Indian Cricket team. NO MILITARY SYSTEM IN SPORTS PLEASE. The game is all about enjoying your game. Discipline will score above dedication is sports. Its only dedication, commitment and enjoyment that will make a great team or a player.

Sunil Gavaskar has mustered the courage to spaek now!! How ridiculous--here is a man who played only for individual records and had not commented on Greg at all. Now he recommends to the BCCI that advertisements should be restricted for players--where is the connection between this and Greg? Come on Mr. Gavaskar--grow up

Stop the nonsense talk
by kiran bhagwat on Apr 23, 2007 10:44 AM  Permalink

Hey Gavaskar,

Why dont you save this nonsense talk until India really performs well and start winning? When you commeneted on Aussies on-field behavior, Ponting said one straing comment "We all know the way he played his cricket. Dont we" and also said that "India never performed well overseas". All this was before world cup and what happened...The same old story and what evet Ponting said has come to true. Your comments on Aussies have done more damage to India than Aussies. So for now, stop this nonsense talk and save this until India starts winning again.

Mr.Gavaskar is absolutely correct
by sishtla krishnamohan on Apr 23, 2007 10:40 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is my strong feeling that Australian team was afraid of India, after the great Calcutta defeat! Mr. Greg Chappel was sent to India as a coach with a hidden plot to sabotage Indian Cricket. And he is successful to some extent. Our poor (Not economically but mentally) BCCI played in to his ploy.

I am happy that Gavaskar has come out openly.
Only India can outsmart Australia in Cricket.

I fully agree with you. After appointment of Chappel Indian team has done the worst.

None of the Senior & young players have done well. The Seniors lost their form due to constant change in the batting position. Also Irfan our main spear head ace bowler lost his rythmn after being promoted as one down batsman. Today he is not in the team.
