Shut up Gavaskar
by Ramesh on Apr 23, 2007 12:10 PM  Permalink

After EVERYTHING is said and done..More is said then done....goes a modern adage!
What did you do Mr Gavaskar?. Its easy for you to make unnecessary comments from the position where you are. We know Chappell was not all correct in his decisions. He definitely has a finger pointing towards him. And your accusation doesnt NECESSARILY do any good to the indian cricket. I am only wondering what you are going to comment when the Boys in blue return back from bangladesh..(no marks for guessing)

Do not play the blaming game
by on Apr 23, 2007 11:52 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We are boasting that Sachin , Dravid & ganguly are all time greats and do not need a coach to teach them Batting skills, similarly Baji, & kumble the art of spin bowling why then do we need a coach?
Did not gavaskar who vields considerable clout in the BCCI come forward to impart them the skills to be united and build confidence levels?
The fact remains that we did not play well. Not that we are a bad team. We did not play well when it mattered most. Accept failure gracefully without trying to blame the coach. A person who has played the game at highest levels for long should realise that the Coach is not playing the game in the middle

We were good in hockey once more teams came in our wining percentage came down, once astro turf was introduced we were finished. Same thing happening in cricket now. Skill is not the end all now in any sport. Strategy, fitness, mind games etc is more important now. Roger Federer reserves his best for Andy Roddick, Indians have no strategy whatsoever, they seem to think skill is all it takes. GC was a wrong choice no doubt but the blame lies more with the players.

Time to think..

Yes time to think. Gavaskar said one good thing. We should come off the Inferiority syndrome. yes it is there in BCCI. It is not the only case. They should not ave offered Greg the exstra role, which is of no use.

But Mr. Gavaskar also forget about his own favourite cricketer in including the list. He should also said that by keeping Sachin, BCCI is doing same thing.. Inferiority syndrome.

Then come to Gavaskar point. Greg had tried his best to make the team professional, what Mr. gavaskar doing. Board is ready to offer coach role to Indian, Kapil also suggested Gavaskar to take the role. Why is he taking his foot back? Inferiority Syndrome?

It is easy to comment on failures, but are you ready to take the role and make it work?
Take if you have gutts and take same old horses and win the race..

BCCI keeping Sachin is not inferiority syndrome, it is called Holy Cow phenonmenon. There is another example for this in India, congress sycophants always praising Gandhi family and never criticizing them

Can't perform be the waterboy!!
by girish shah on Apr 23, 2007 11:47 AM  Permalink

Nathan Astle, Inzy , Damien Martyn, Steve harmison, Shane Warne and now Brian Lara have all retired gracefully one way or another from ODI cricket. After this week, you will see McGrath, and maybe Pollock, Jayasuriya, Vaughan and few others calling it quits. What's the difference between these players and our selfish jokers? The above players mentioned left ODI cricket when they knew their time was up or they would be booted off. Whatever the case they did not have so much drama, attention and time waste on them. Also they played with passion for their countries respectively. Shame on Indian players, the selection committee, the board, the captain for making a mockery of the sport!! And coach Chapell needs to be asked a few questions as well for ruining indian cricket.

Unless the new team doesn't win a tri-one day series against any the top 5 teams on the road fans should not attend any home games in India period. Otherwise these players will feel like they are kings of the world which is the main problem. They are given so much importance that they forget they are representing a sport. Here in the US they would have been lost and forgotten a long time back!! Tendulkar should have retired after the 2003 WC? Any comments I will answer because I have answers to all the questions!!

Regards,

Girish

Well Said Gavaskar
by Rock on Apr 23, 2007 11:47 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I agree with Gavaskar. Only after the arrival of Chappel India faced lot of problems. The problems created by Chappel are:
1. Since he is a coach he dont have any right to ask a player(ganguly) to give up his captancy because he is not a manager or a member of selection committee.
2. Ganguly is sacked becausing of telling the dressing room matters to the media. Then why Chappell told all the dressing room matters to the media???
If iam wrong then please listen Australian former coach Bob Simpson's words posted by Rediff in 21-April-07:
"Chappell is a great batsman but he is not having ability to lead a team as a captan or as a coach"

GC may not be a great coach but the problem lies in Indian cricket team. No good seniors or juniors. Sunil Gavaskar should become coach and show the world he means what he says. Anyhow has ever criticized Sachin's and other Indian batsmen performance in WC 2007.

I dont thinnk there is a clash between seniors and juniors. Remember our team in 2002, 2003 and 2004. They are all united and all the senoirs sachin, savrav, raghul, kumble, vvs are all friendly to the juniors yuvraj, sehwag, kaif, zaheer, etc. The same team is playing now. then how will be the senoir-junior clash is possible??. this shows the ego of greg chappell.
