Club discusses cash in Gavaskar%u2019s locker
07 July, 2000

Mumbai: The general body of the Bombay Gymnkhana club met here Thursday evening to discuss the discovery of a huge amount of cash in a locker belonging to cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar.

However, most of the members refused to speak on the outcome of the meeting.

Gavaskar who was supposed to give his version of the matter however decided to stay away from the meeting.

Kamal Morarka, one of the Vice-Presidents of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, was one of the few members who spoke about the controversy. He said, ''It was nobody's business to know what was kept in the locker. Do we ask any person what is there in his pocket''.

Soon after the match-fixing controversy broke out, there were reports that a lot of cash was found in Gavaskar's locker in September 1999. His wife Marshneil had said that since it was during those times when the cricket star was flying in and out of the country for his commentary work, he had no time to deposit the money in the bank and had put in the cash, which could run into thousands, in the locker.

Not cricket is disposable in India - so was Gavaskar
by Carer on Apr 22, 2007 05:58 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

As per Gavaskar, no one is disposable. he is aware of this as he with kapil were forced to leave the team. Gavaskar is just jealous. Sachin cant be removed till he is unfit not out of form or age. Guess the same with sourav now after his selfish world cup when he deliberatley tried to sabotage the indian innings against Bangladsh and Bermuda. Worst the Bengalis selector is supporting oldie rather than Ranadeb Bose as no one is stll sure if Bose can click;. If he doesnt then no bengali if left which could backfire him. Obviously selection is not for country its just another zonal representation.

Mr Gavakar
by Hemant on Apr 22, 2007 05:53 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Blaming someone is very easy.
If our players would have played efficiently, how could India succumb to the ulterior plans (if any) of Chapell?
But I appreciate you for saying "It's never easy sacking somebody, however incapable and inefficient he/she may be," and it fits perfectly for SACHIN, AGARKAR, ZAHEER etc.
As to say more I would like to remind Mr Gavaskar about his own performance in 1983 world cup, in which he made every attempt to bring the Team India on knees by playing ZERO against Zimbavbe and 16 against WestIndies in final.
Mr Gavaskar first repair your own house then discuss the defects of other's home later.

Extremely selfish ex-players like Gavaskar cann't do any good to any Organisation. He
can only criticise out of Jealousy. Mr.Gavaskar just look back at your own career and your on-field and off-field Tantrums and decide if you have even 1% moral right to criticise Greg Chappel or for that matter anybody else!

so why dont Mr Gavaskar take the responsibility of coaching the Indian team. It is well known that Mr Gavaskar played for himself and his personal records. He does not have courage to take challenge like coaching Team India.

Take the challenge and prove it
by on Apr 22, 2007 05:52 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Come on Gavaskar.. Then take the challenge and prove it. Be India coach and show yourself.. It is easy o blame from stiitng outside. Greg tried his level best and as usual, ur Bombay Loddy lead by Mr. GOD spoiled everything. You never gave freedom to Greg for team selection and things happened such as he has to play the great Ajit Agarkar ( can youb tell me why he is an integral part of Indian cricket for the last 10 yrs) as his opening bowler.

He does not get money as a selector. The time you show money he will jump like a kangaroo. Challanges are for cricketer with guts. Does anybody know the name of australian coach or for that matter selectors. Sachin Rahul Saurav kumble retire. Why not Jaggu Sharad take the blame for bringing cricket to disrepute

Gavaskar blames Chappel
by optimist on Apr 22, 2007 05:52 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I full agree with Gaurav Deol. Both Chappel and Gavaskar are of no use to Indian Cricket. Gavaskar has a habit of criticising when everything is over. He always try to play safe. His comments are personal and in no way help Indian Cricket. He was also one of the best batsman in Cricket. Why does not he coach Indian Cricket Team and win World Cup. In that respect Ravi Shastri is better.

Sunny is accusing himself
by Jaffer on Apr 22, 2007 05:50 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If Sunny is blaming Greg for India's WC debacle, then he is blaming himself because he is the one who strongly supported Greg as coach. Why did he wait for so many days until his devotee Sachin got kicked out from the Indian team? Because Sunny could not digest the humiliation (?) meted out to his disciple. Everybody knows how selfish Sunny. He humiliated and finally removed Kapil from the Calcutta Test which was supposed to be his 100th test without being dropped. Sunny got special treatment from Calcutta Fans.....that is a different story. Then he tried to bring his son into Indian Team by playing him in West Bengal Team knowing very well that he would not get a place in Bombay Team. But he had a villain in Saurav and his selfish desire was destroyed by one of the most successful captain India ever produced. The height of his selfishness is he continued playing well in to the 15th over of the mandatory overs in order to complete his century against Pakistan led by Asif Iqbal knowing very well that the match was a sure draw. The same sunny denied Azhar his 4th consecutive century in the debut against England in the Chennai Test where he declared India 2nd innings which was also a sure draw.
We can recall Sunny's selfish approach. On a nut shell Sunny is the role model and father of dirty politics in Indian Cricket.

Gavaskar is just venting out his anger on Ricky Ponting, and other Austrailains after his recent smut on his face on his remarks on David Hookes. He wants to use this opportunity against another aussie, Greg. Besides he wants to promote Rohan thru Ganguly
