Indian players, the Captain and the teams selectors are to be blamed for their pathetic performance in WC 2007. The Players did work hard enough to prove that they can win matches overseas away from tailor made pitches in India. The players underestimated the other side owing untill the first shock has come their way. The Captain lacked confidence and didn't have guts to drop non-performers and never introduced any new tactics. The Selectors are forced to pick non performers based on the endorsement values he player making, captain's preferences and other political reasons. Greg Chappell was given an inefficient team and his preferred youngsters where not selected. If you expect results from Coach then everyone should listen to professional coaches.
Gavaskar just makes such statements to show his presence. He should stop making such comments before he looses respect from cricketers world wide.
Do u know how many Maharashtrian players career wasted due to shitty selectors & crap quota system ? ever heard names like Milind Gunjal, Shantanu Sugvekar, Surendra Bhave ? they all were far better than what we have today like Parthiv Patel , Sanjay Bangar, Dinesh Mongia, Hemang Badani but still they were ignored by selectors just because of they were all from Maharashtra.

there have been lots of inane and vapid and thoughtlerss comments made about Gavaskar being selfish and money minded etc etc!! Not even a grain of truth to all that crap and no objectivity!! No analysis done, just some opinion expressed losely!! First of all, Sunny Gavaskar played for India in a decade where Indian batting was quite brittle! With the exception of he himself and gundappa Vishwanath, very few Indian batsmen could actuallly stand upto fast bowling! Our bowling was also not conducive to taking 20 wickets abroad cos the focus was on spin!! In this era, a draw was almost like a victory for India! Gavaskar may not have been involved in too many Indian victories but he was responsible for ensuring many draws! So, his contribution to Indian cricket cannot be underestimated by anyone! Also, Gavaskar at the peak of his prowess in 1977, was the best batsman in the world! Do check the facts! In 1977, Ian chappell(chief agent for Packer) came down to India for the Abbas Ali Baig benefit match and sounded Gavaskar about the pros and cons of playing WSC for Packer!! Sunil Gavaskar would have been an automatic choice for opening batsman for the Packer World 11 and he culd approx. have made 15 times the money that he got from the Indian board!! Yet, he refused and played for India when he could easily have plied his wares for Packer!! So the theory of he being money-minded is ignorant and does not take into account facts!! Ciao!

buddy u've missed the wood for trees here. the subject of discussion is not about Gavaskar's playing days or india's quality in the seventies. it's about his disparaging comments on Chappell ex coach of Team India . and as for facts the players were contracted by Kerry Packer for a sum of $ 2,000 . gavaskar was making more by way of ads ( Dinesh Suitings,Bournvita etc. ) so he chose not to go.

Sure dude, i was just responding to some empty senseless comments made about Gavaskar, thats all!! Nobody is defending what he said about Chappell!! Cos if chappell is to be blamed, then Dravid and Tendulkar and Ganguly should take 25% blame each too!!

And you will have to benchmark the $2000 against what the Indian board was paying them. Plus there was a retainer fee clause plus a fixed amount for each match played. This was without some other allowances paid to the players for laundry, hoten=ling etc. It all came down to apporx 15 times of an Indian crciketer made!! check out complet details in "in the fast lane" by Geoff Boycott and you would know what i'am talking about!! Well, i'am young too if 27 is young!! The fact is that i have read about 16 books on cricket and do understand the game pretty well!! So, if some thoughtles crap is put out her, i guess you just have to dissect it and show it its place!!
Can this stupid ass**** stop making remarks about others. We all know how he acted when Kapil was made the captain. Gavaskar was all praise for Dravid and Chappel when Indian was winning matches. Let him offer himself as the coach of India if he thinks he can make this a winning team otherwise it's just a bunch of empty rhetoric.
To win only against Bermuda. India should have send any Ranji team. Do you think that we need a international coach. I bet a strong Ranji team could even beat Bangla. Why blame coach?. Blame our senior and so called Legends. 3 players have scored 10,000 plus runs. Do they need a coach. Its a shame on them for such irresponisble game.
I am terribly upset of reading the messages in rediff board. These people who are great scholars will say by taking the records of the player to blame him if he has not done well. At the same time, if there is time to support a player, there the same sick people will say the records are for the sake of showing and are nothing to do with the talent. F....k you guys. Be positive when you are writing. If you are jealous of a person, say it. Instead don't pose as if you are the only hero in the world and every one is nonsense.
In this board, I have seen hardly any one praising any player. Everyone is hating even if they do well in the game. This shows your sick jealous mind. There will be a day for you people. What you give is what you get. Be critical in yourself when you are commenting on anyone.
You cannot support any of your own country men. You like the whites. You feel they are only talents in the world. You are submitting yourself to them. Good you can submit yourself but not the whole Indian community. Others have their own identity. Accept whatever it is positive or negative. The indians are the most talented people in the world. Please remember this.
Somebody shunt this man out. He cant comment on the aussies now that they have thrashed everybody. Chappel might have wronged a lot but what were the "professionals" doing. One man managed to collectively let down the morale of 11 guys is it.

It confirms that the Bangalore club is intolerant of people from any other parts of this country, who is critical of Dravid or anyone promoting him
