An open Challenge to Gavaskar
by Raman sSubramanya on Apr 22, 2007 09:21 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Now Greg Chappel is out of Indian Cricket. Our Team will visit Australia during the year end. There is sufficient time left for our Cricketers to prepare themselves for the tour. Lets see how the so called legends Sachin and Saurov perform. If India is thrashed, where will Gavaskar keep his face for criticisng Greg Chappel ?

I agree, Let's give everything to Gavaskar and even if we square the series in Australia we can accept that Greg was useless. And after hat if our so called cricket great's f..up again, then will gavaskar shut his mouth and never involve with cricket, and even commantating..

The wounded tiger..

Gavasker is fast becoming Navjot sidhu like !! A "motormouth"..with no idea of what he is talking about. Initially it was the "attitude of the australians" and now he is after "greg chappel". Ofcourse Chappel was a failure, but more than Indias Loss..i feel that gavaskers outburst has something to do with dropping of tendulkar and agarkar from the team.!!!! It is a direct fallout of the greg chappel report ..No wonder gavasker is mad at him.. all his "aamchi maratha" guys are out na..

Absolutely right, for him Sachin is God and everybodyelse is a twig!. Chappell's failure has more to do with the malady of the cricket board, its systems and its selection policy. Chappell had the courage to make us see the real truth about the so-called veterans and their utility to the team. He dared the administration and paid the price. But for Chappell, we would still be living in illusion about the greatness of old-horses and their exploits!

U guys talk so much about Sachin and say he sacrificied 17 years playing Cricket for India.
During these 17 years participation of Sachin, has India ever won World Cup ? Then what is the point in announcing he is the best batsman in the world ?

These comments are coming from a person who once opened the innings in world cup ODI and scored 36 in 60 overs and still was not out. What can a coach do if the players are thinking about endorsements and bigbucks all the time or seeing if beauties are eyeing them so that their evenings may be 'RANGEEN" .Tendulkar, Dhoni, Bhajji, Dravid, Ganguly,Sehwag, Agarkar etc can't even face BD or SL who are ranked way below them and do not have any superstars--- whose players are paid by the boards and their incomes a miniscule of what our greats get. What did Chappel do--- ask them to throw their wickets or bowl badly? Coach simply hones the skills, not turn technically incompetents like MSD or VS into Bradmans. Coach simply along with captain and team members chalk out a strategy and make action plans if one plan fails--- do you think Chappel asked them to commit HARA-KIRI in the field. Even John Wright once became physical with VS for not obeying simple rules and acting flashy and for showing off.. OK if Gavaskar is appointed coach does he ensure that it will be a balanced team and not team Mumbai in the garb of team India? Does he guarantee that 2011 or 2015 WC will be bagged by India. And what about his views about Tendulkar/Ganguly/Dravid/VS retiring ages or they will continue to be passengers with wearing leadboots in the fields. Gentlemen it is very easy to say that my comitment and attitude is total for the team while all you can do is score against the low class minnows. Gavaskar should instead come out openly about inducting fresh blood into the team instead of waiting for his proteges to crack more records over the next few years. Do not blame Chappel, instead blame the AKARKHAN BILLIONAIRES of team India--- shunt a few of them, cap on their ads and you'll see the results.

Don't even compare Tendulkar to Lara or Bradman. Tendulkar is a GREAT batsman, but he is not a genius or someone who can even be compared to Lara or Bradman.

Tendulkar will continue play at least as long as the match fee is 1 lakh plus, regardless of his own personal form or whether the country wins anything.

Lara and Bradman loved the game and got their records because of that. Tendulkar loves his records and plays the game for those.

Get your facts about Lara straight. Lara is one of the msot selfish cricketers out there. These Aussie commentaotrs are weird, when Lara made the 401 and also when he was captaining they were criticising him hard for being so selfish. And when they see an Asian do well, they counter with Lara. It seems the cricketing world is divided into 2 factions Asian and nonAsian. Btw the reason why we need batsmen at 33-34 is because the youth really messed up causing all the onus to be put back onto the 33-34 year olds. Funny thing is the same idiots who say bring youngies in were adulating Dhoni one day and the very next they were destroying his property. Does the Indian fan actually love the game of cricket. If they do why would they destroy property knowing its just a game and winning and losing are part of it. Btw, why do people work even at the age of 55, even though they underperform. How many people above the age of 50 work in companies and how many of them produce more output than a 20 year old? 100%? a lot of gavaskars sentiment is okay, but I hated the last line, it just was too stupid. In any case Chappell was never honest, maybe he was an awesome coach but he was a snake.

Completely accept your point. I dont understand what do they mean by sacrificing.

Has he starved to play cricket for India. Has he lost his assets for playing cricket for this nation. Has he ended in Jails since he played Cricket for this country. He has earned crores by playing/non-playing Cricket. No one is here to sacrifice their in playing cricket for the country.

Regardless of personal faults (over emotional, not 100% professional), Ganguly still took India to the finals in 2003. And then the wonderful Tendulkar showed us how not to play in critical games. His body language is like that of a kid facing his brothers in gully cricket. 17 years of professional cricket, my foot. And he will never retire and make room for someone more talented or hard working.
