senility seems to have caught up
by Krishnamoorthy Srinivas on Apr 23, 2007 02:38 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Gkr cut a very sorry figure with his earlier David Hookes comments, specifically after our Indian cricket team became determined to cut short their carribean tour. Nothing succeeds like success and I guess Australians deservedly gave back a mouthful to Gavaskar. Somehow the saying that people in glass houses should not throw stones at others who live in stone houses does not seem to get applied to Gkr's case. Ponting's seething remarks to first help out the Indian team before opinionating on others seemed very apt. I wish our folks could divert all their energy to improve the team instead of focusing attention on others. Its such a shame that a nation of 1 billion cannot produce a cricket team that can enter super 8 in a game that is supposed to be the most popular, leave alone an olympic medal. We though have been consistently producing good critics of the game. Its time for some radical system-overhauling changes that creates good competing sportsmen like China. We need to grow enough to appreciate critical opinions on ourselves (like how Chappel used to !) and accept honset opinions.

Absurd
by Umashanker Thangavelu on Apr 23, 2007 02:32 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Its really absurd to blame the coach when the players are playing to their level,is it wise to expect the coach to go down and play for their country.why didnt Mr Gavaskar say these words when our team was convincingly winning in a streak.Under Mr chappell we won most of our matches by batting second, its pretty much easy to sit and blame anybody, and thats what he is doing.its good to keep mouth shut and try to prepare for the pitfalls.and improvise the team. Our cricket team doesnt have unity, try some strategies to build that first and point fingers on others.

Consider this, Coach Greg's CTC is close to Rs. 5.0 Crore. Rs. 2.0 crore salary and plus benefits like free five star accomodation and free boarding & loadging for his family, etc.

If Coach has no role in players performace then why waste this Rs. 5.0 Crore per annum.

yea, hypocrites r just looking at the negetive aspects not at the positive achiements..What about those matches where in Dhoni single handedly won the matches??A couple of failures ( iam not defending him for the useless way in which he gifted his wickets to bongla and sri lanka) and people yell for his throat..
Agreed Greg was in the end as good as a half baked cake but then we have to blame the insipid perfromances of our paper tigers too??Surely??

While u may be justified in being dissapointed with our players performace, I don't see, how u can defend a coach who is divisive and spoils the team atmosphere, leading to low motivation. Greg has been known to occasionally coach his players thru. press by sending out SMS to his fav. reporteers.

Greg was chosen to coach the players like Tendulkar, Dravid and make them into a great unit.

Greg then, blames these players as not good enough and goes back to his country. If one looks at this coach's career history, he is a great batsman, but has been horrible as a coach. Read a bit about former australian coach Boby Simpson's assesment of Greg as a coach.

Is there a reason to defend a guy, who failed to coach the team and has been constantly bickering with players, selectors and even call his employer (BCCI) as a crap, after resigning.

It is really sad that we Indians r emotional fools..
by Gaurav Deol on Apr 23, 2007 02:05 AM  Permalink

Ponting will score 50 test centuries by 2009 at the rate in which he is firing and oh yea, please dont compare the most selfish player of our era Gavaskar with Pontings, Haydens, kallis´Laras, Inzamams, Miandads, Zaheer Abbass´, Gooch´s who played for their country not for their personal and selfish egos..

Even as a captain, Gavaskar was a flop and he also played politics and made kapil to be dropped for the Calcutta test .He has the dubious distiction of batting through 60 overs in a world cup match scoring 36 runs( definately fishy).

For me, the best Indian captain was Ganguly who atleast had the guts to match Steve Waugh in aggression and to get great results than other useless ones..

gavaskar is just a disillusioned person who tried his best to promote his useless technically flawed son as an Indian star and he is a frustrated person if u ask me.

To me and iam sure to millions of other real unbiassed Indians, Vishvanath and Amarnath were the better batsmen than Sunny .

Surprised!!
by Praveen Goud on Apr 23, 2007 02:04 AM  Permalink

Dear Gavaskar, why don't u point u'r fingers at the players who didn't perform cent percent neither at home nor abroad.

Instead of blaming Chappel, why don't u point u'r fingers at board and politicians who were against dropping non performers particulary seniors and bringing new and young players.

To be frank, why would you expect some gimmicks from the existing players who were only good at performing on home grounds and barely on alien grounds.

I believe, first of all, the domination of west zone in selection of managers and players should be brought down drastically. If they don't listen, the rest of India should start a new team avoiding west zone.

Otherwise,i don't think India can beat even Bangladesh at Wankede stadium too.God bless current managers, board and their selection policies and bias......

bangladesh series is coming!
by Jay on Apr 23, 2007 02:01 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

once we defeat bangladesh in the upcoming may series, the world cup loss will be forgotten. we feel great sense of pride in defeating countries like kenya, zimbabwe, b'desh (hope too!!). very soon, i am sure, bcci will organize a triangular tournament (with b'desh, kenya) to restore our pride.
i wonder what gavaskar will have to say then!!.

Let Bangladesh tour to be over. Even we may loose 2-1 or 3-0 in the ODI, and draw the test series or 1-0. How come Sehwag,Dravid,Dinesh mongia and dhoni got selected?.
