Gavaskar - a grandmother?!
by Sundaram Vishwanathan on Apr 24, 2007 07:26 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Gavaskar has become like a weeping bitter grandmother. He talked trash about Hooks, now he is on Greg's case. Look at the way he is wording his statements - "Even Ireland would beat Australia...". Earlier it was about Hooks getting hit in the bar. Am I noticing an acidic, frustrated, and a highly distasteful personality?

When Kapil suggested appointing Gavaskar as India coach, I wonder now if it was a sarcastic remark.

I knew all along that kapil was being sarcastic...everybody knows that Gavaskar can only talk and is afraid of being stoned if he becomes the coach and the team does badly

Gavaskar is good only to comment
by whocares on Apr 24, 2007 05:55 PM  Permalink

If coaching is so easy why not Gavaskar do it for India. He is shit scared of the job. He can only comment. He doesnt have the ability to make a team (that too indian team) victorious. He has no right to talk abt chappel.

Chappell responsible for downfall of Indian cricket
by Sudipto Ghosh on Apr 24, 2007 04:15 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am pleased that cricket greats share my views about this issue (If you remember my article "HAS CHAPPELL ACTUALLY DONE ANY GOOD??").
I completely agree with Mr.Gavaskar. Even though Chappell is one of the greatest cricketers and his intentions for the betterment of Indian cricket may have been good but at the end he failed miserably and ended up in dividing the team and made all the players lose direction.
He clearly had no idea about the way the Indian cricket could have been improved.
Australians are the best team at the present moment but the same methods do not work everywhere.
A team of youngsters may be a good idea for an Australian team (though the most successful players aren't very young) but not for India. In Indian cricket the youngsters need to be introduced gradually and not just have a complete young team all together. It failed miserably and the experienced senior players (Laxman, Ganguly, Zaheer..) had to be called for and it worked!!
Chappell had it all wrong all the way.
Also the talk about all the politics and dominance of the senior players but that has always been there and it is under THEIR guidance and leadership that the youger players get better and this fact has been proven right time and again.
I therefore think Cappells appointment as Indian coach was a huge mistake and has cost us dearly.

Your comments please.

The crux of the matter was we lost fair and square even to Bangla Desh. The team selected was about the best we could muster. If for some reason, Sachin or Ganguly did not play, many would believe that was the sole reason for Indian's loss.

Chappell cannot be blamed for the failure of India's "super stars". Many will come up with figures to show they are better than Chappell. We were not witness first hand at day to day problems and some reports based on which we assume things may only be figment of imagination of newspapers to get so called "scoops".

I believe, the main isuue is our poor record on fast and seaming pitches. We all saw how uncomfortable our players were. I found Sri Lankans are far superior in playng on these conditions. From a side which used to lose to Tamil Nadu regularly, how come they are far superior to us now. I think it is their attitude. Despite having some great players, they were comfortable with Whatmore. Some who were coached by him had much better statistics than him.

If we do not want people like Chappell, who is going to shoulder the responsibilty. Whatmore and Moody are far "inferior" to Chappell and of course to our super stars. Their shirts and what not will be ripped off within days as they will find India quite a different kettle of fish. They will stand fully exposed within days.

The crux of the matter is none of our former greats will step forward as they know it will be a thankless job. Frankly, with all respects I believe others have improved, while we still find scapegoats in a fruitless exercise. With Bangla Desh and Ireland coming up, sadly our days of glory (fleeting though it was) looks to be over.

Gavaskar's nonsense

Simply because India reached the Worl Cup final in 2003 does not make them a great team. In a sport played in 8 countries, every one of those countries will make the final at some stage. That India reached the final then is due to luck, Dravid, Sehwag and Tendulkar who were in form then. Not anymore. It's very clear that Chappell is the best thing to happen to Indian cricket (along with Kapil Dev). Nobody else has revealed the disease within as clearly, boldly and selflessly as he has. If he were like other Indian coaches or like Wright, he could have walked away with his salary without being confrontationist with the likes of Ganguly and Tendulkar. past Indian cricketers are too afraid of calling a spade a spade. And we all know how biased Gavaskar has been throuoghout his career against White teams...

Gavaskar - Shakuni Narad combined!!
by Shahenshah on Apr 24, 2007 02:48 AM  Permalink

I cant understand the logic behind this tirade against Chappell!

Wasn't Gavaskar part of the panel which gave the green signal for Greg's selection when he first submitted his application for the coach's position ? and now why is Sunny crying hoarse about Chappell not having done his job ?

Sunny should make sure that his dignity is intact - only before the World Cup began, Sunny made some stupid comments about the Aussie team behavior and now India is out of the World Cup and the Aussies are cantering along without a single loss! Sunny left with his feet in his ever chattering mouth!!

How long are we gonna find excuses for our below-par performances! first you hire a foreign coach-then the team doesnt follow his plans/advices and fails - and suddenly the blame game shifts with fingers pointing at the same person, who was unanimously appointed few years ago! whats going on here, I dont understand! give us a frig*ing break, Sunny, I have always been a big fan of your technical brilliance during your career, and also your shrewd cricketing brain - but your on-and-off dumb statements are embarassing, to say the least! where were you, when dada was struggling to change his game against short-pitched bowling ? it was Greg's help that corrected Dada's technique - likewise, our bowlers have never gotten due support/advice not only from you, from any other former Indian player for that matter - all that people like Sunny do, is sit and criticise! go, have a life and give us a breather!

Mr.Gavaskar... do u want Chappel to give spoon feeding to each and every players ? if any players goes to the field he has to perform rather than begging him to perform.. if hes not playing well he can be sacked.. India needs quality players rather than permanent employees... did every chappel played as a bats man / bowler / fielder in the three match that india had played... all u ppl shout @ d couch... did any 1 hav a courage to fire at the players who are the ONE & ONLY Cause for India's dismal showing in the WC... all u guys are making this issue to politics... follow the Aussies.. im sure the WC is made only for Aussies

Indian cricket needs Chappell: Tiger Pautidi
he was trying to bring in Indian cricked was kind of shift to the emphasis from individual flair and brilliance to a kind of teamwork - which Australia are so good at - which is why he was actually invited to this country.

chapell destroyed indian team players one after another.
he first attacked saurav oinstead of working on him his technique
the he demoralised sachijn by asking him bar at no.4 where he is very very uncomfortable
what was sehwag doing at opener position even as he was completely out of form

he was supposed to work on irfan pathan but he asked him to bat not work on hi stechnique as a bowler

he regulary destroyed team motivation any player who got close to him got destroyed

if u notice carefully each and every player
who came back to the team was in form
sachin scored a century when he came back
as he started staying with the team
he got demoralised lost his form

same with saurav he came back in form but lost it as he stayed with chappell

same with sehwag who was in top form when greg came

same with zaheer khan

same with rahul dravid
have you ever seen a yaer of dravid where he doesnt score with average of above 44-45

Gavaskar does not have to be a coach to voice his dislike for a losers like Chappell/Dravid
by smskal yug on Apr 23, 2007 11:20 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Gavaskar has every right as cricker of fore and as a media personality to say the truth about Losers like Chappell/Dravid.

Its a shame, they have not resigned after the humiliating exit, and looked for excuses to save their behinds.
Shame on Dravid/Chappell.
True words of Gavaskar!

This younger Chappell, this man by the name of Greg, does not have the commonsense and intelligence of his elder brother Ian Chappell!!
Ian Chappell is a much more sensible individual and more practical minded and balaned!
Only if Greg had the wisdom of his elder brother Ian!!

When you criticise somebody you have to back it up with facts, not rant and rave like Gavaskar and other biased. You are only exposing your prejudices when you talk like this. Simply because Ian Chappell has criticised Tendulkar and Greg had a problem with Ganguly does not make Ian more intelligent. It does not take a rocket scientist to know that you are a Bengali who's got this Ganguly bias fixated in your brain

after all he is the same guy who asked his brother to bowl underarm in the last ball of a ODI match to avert defeat. Saala tabse yeh bilkul coward insaan hai. I would blame Sunny for only one thing and that is to make the mistake on beleiving this guy's presentation and selecting him. On the other hand, this confirms that this idiot called chappell is maahir in making fools of others. he must have made a cunningly sauve presentation just to get into Indian cricket and make millions fully knowing that he is not going to achieve even 1% of what he envisioned in his presentation. Anyway, good that he is gone. if he had been even for few more months, Indian cricket would have got totally paralysed never to recover again. atleast now he has left it in the crutches and there are hopes of recovery with time.
