When many people say how many of Sachin's hundreds have come for a winning cause,Here is analysis of each of those centuries he scored when INDIA lost and reason why it went in vain.
Out of the 41 hundreds, 11 hundreds have gone in vain.
1. 137 off 137 balls Vs SriLanka at Delhi in 1996 World Cup . India scored 271/3 in 50 overs. The only other 50 score was from Azhar. SL made 272 in 48.4 overs. Manoj Prabhakar had 4-0-47-0. He also opened in the innings with Sachin and scored 7 of 36 balls.
2. 100 of 111 Balls Vs Pak in Singapore- Apr 96 . India 226 all out in 47.1 overs, When Sachin was out score was 186/4. Pak had a reduced target of 187 from 33 overs.
3. 110 of 138 Balls vs Sri Lanka In Colombo - Aug 96. Again India 226 for 5 in 50 overs, Only other 50 score from Azhar (58 of 99 balls).Sachin has also bowled 6-0-29-1, the second most economical bowler and the only wicket taker (SL were 230/1 in 44.2) of the match next to Srinath. 7 bowlers were used by Azhar.
4. 143 of 131 Balls Vs Aus at Sharjah, Apr 1998. This was chasing under lights. The qualifying match before the final. The whole world knows about this match. Still one interesting point, when Sachin was out India were 242 at 5 at 43 overs. Target was 276 in 46. Still India finished at 250/5 scoring just 8 of the next 3 overs. Great performance by Laxman and Kanithkar indeed.
5. 101 of 140 Balls against SL at Sharjah in Oct 2000. Indian score was 224/8 in 50 overs. (No other 50 score). SL got 225/5 in 43.5, Sachin also bowled 5-0-22-0, better economy rate than everyone except Srinath.
6. 146 of 153 Balls against Zimbabwe at Jodhpur - December 2000 India made 283 / 8 in 50 overs. Sachin was the last man to be dismissed, score was 235/8 at 46.3 overs when he was out. Agarkar and Zaheer Khan propelled India to 283 in the last 3.3 overs. When Sachin has scored 146 of 235 in 46.3 overs, you can guess what the other 8 great batsmen were doing against the World class Zimbabwe attack. Second Highest scorer was Zaheer Khan with 32. Zim got 284/9 in 49.5 overs. Agarkar bowled the last over. Sachin also got 6-0-35-1
7. 101 of 129 Balls Vs SA at Johannesburg - Oct 2001 India got 279/5 in 50, Ganguly made 127 of 126 balls. When Ganguly got out, the score was 193-1 in 35.2 overs. Sachin was the last man to get out at 263. SA got 280 in 48.4 overs. Sachin bowled 9-0-51-0, second best in economy rate next only to Agarkar (10-0-45-1)
8. 141 of 135 balls Vs Pak at Rawalpindi, March 2004 . India were chasing 329 and were 317 all out in 48.4 overs, 8 balls to spare. No other batsman made even a 50 (when chasing 300 ) and when Sachin was out, India were 245-4 in 38.4 overs. They needed 85 from 68 balls with 6 wickets in hand.
9. 123 of 130 Balls vs Pak at Ahmedabad, April 2005. India made 315/6 in 48 overs (48 over match), again no other 50 score. Second highest was Dhoni 47 of 64 balls, (third highest was extras - 39). Pak made 319 in 48 overs. The three quicks (Balaji, Nehra and Khan went for 188 runs from 26 overs between them taking only 2 wickets). Sachin bowled 6-0-36-1. No Harbhajan and no Kumble.
10. 100 of 113 Balls Vs Pak at Peshawar, Feb-2006. India were 328 all out in 49.4 overs. Pathan and Dhoni got 60 each. When Sachin was out when India were 305-5 in 45 overs. Managed only 23 in the last 5 overs.Pak scored 311/7 in 47 overs and won by D/L method. Could have been anybody's game. Sachin did not bowl.
11. 141* of 148 balls vs WI at Malaysia. India made 309 /5 in 50 overs. Sachin was not out. Pathan was the only other 50 scorer. WI made 141/2 in 20 overs and won by D/L method. Again could have been anybody's game.
In the other 31 instances India has won 30 times and once there was no result Now, please think again when you say sachin's 100s were in the losing cause and that he is not a team player. It is a fact that for the entire 90's India played International cricket with 1 PLAYER and 10 JOKERS. P.S: Forward this to all those people who still doubt in great man's commitment , think his centuries are in losing cause and ENLIGHTEN them!!!

This is great stuff. I really appreciate. I always believe that it was one man show in 90's. NObody was helping him out.I remember all these matches. our bowlers were so poor that they could not even defend 250 score at that time. He should have opened the innings in this world cup. he is at his best when playing as an opener. chappell threw him to play at no. 4. that was rediculous. This stuff should be published in all the newspapers. Great work..!

Hey stupid Gurmit.. do uknow anything abt cricket? have u ever watched a single match during 90's..how come one can keep hitting hard, when the wickets are falling at otherside..he has to play patiently, picking up single, and hitting loose balls to 4's& 6's...without knowing abt greatness of Sachin many stupid ppl are commenting abt. him

sorry boss look at stats closely he scored century eight out of eleven instance with balls more than the runs scored. That is the case india lost the match look at other players who dominate they make centruy either in same number of balls or more runs than balls that makes other people under pressure to score easily not the way tendulkar score 90 in 75 balls and century in 110 balls what all this show selfishness or commitement. One thing it shows commitment towards records and staying in team loose the match while giving everything learn from Bopara still 21yrs of age England lost the match against SRilanka Bopara in his man of the match presentation said if you think of winning matches than you can tie the match but if you think only of tieing the match then you end up looser.I dont know about 30 other instance when sachin scored century than india won the match.

special only for MR. Gurmit Singh, Mr. Gurmit i'm really sorry to say that i'm shocked by your knowledge of cricket.Actually it should not be shocking because out of 100 crores of most probably only 2 to 3% know what cricket is.But what surprised me is you even have the guts to write it down in a portal. Anyway for your kind info I would like to tell you almost 98.9% centuries made in ODIs are made off more balls than runs.If you have any different stats prove it before you open your mouth. And one more thing,do not compare Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar,Lara,Ponting, etc with a no one like Bopara.I know you have little cricketing knowledge but this comparision is a crime. And next time you call aplayer like Sachin selfish, noncommitted better have your house guarded by none less than Black Cat commandos. Signing off with one last advice.....PLEASE DO NOT WRITE SUICIDAL MESSAGES. Hope you will live to be more wise.
Don't Worry Sachin. You will play 2020 world cup because BCCI is your home.At least you should learn from LARA, Chappel, Media and also Indian feelings. You should retire man ....which will get us a lot of relief for world cup defeat.

he did see your so called youngsters Dhoni and Uthappa in the world cup and changed his decision mate. Now take tis youngsters in ur ass. They need to be groomed not just thrown into the team for the sake o doing it... Bloody Illiterate
It has been seen in all aspects of life that there are some great men in different aspects of life.Sachin is one among them...however he is past his prime..he has slowed down a lot...lots of injuries...the reflexes are slower now...not a great requirement to establish himself as he is already a demi god to Indian cricket lovers. But there are many young Sachins out there unless Sachin the great moves ahead and makes way for others...he might be retiring from Cricket in a very bad shape. So he should try to score couple of centuries..establish his reputability and then leave smilingly.....Jai Hind..
Good decision by one of the great batsman in the world after WC debacle. Why the same thing can't happen with Indian players. One should have guts to take the responsibility for the failure. I suggest sachin, ganguly, dravid to follow the same feat.

he is almost 38 and still only leaving one dayers. they all are still young fools. Lara, jayasurya, inzamam all failed miserably in between, infact even worse then what our stars have but the faith and respect of thr fans got them out of it. So dont insult our hereos like that. they will win you matches in the future.
RE:Lara middle order
by Sathish P on Apr 12, 2007 04:08 AM Permalink
I differ...i think his place at middle is critical. Because when team loses quick wickets then his position becomes very critical.
Lara scores 47 or 91 did he waste 25 or 30 ball to score 50 or 100. Moreover being a middle order batsman he had less opportunity to score more centuries. Moreover Lara has performed well in crucial stage than Sachin. Only thing is he might have acted in less ads. So who is great Lara or Sachin. Being a Indian I would say Sachin but in fact Lara is great.

RE:who is great mate?

mate sachin has always been more consistent then Lara. Even Lara has failed in this world cup and he has been failing since long too but the problem with we Indians is that we are use to licking asses of anything that says foriegn. No doubt that both Sachin and Lara are great and true legends but the way we have treated Sachin just b'coz he failed in this world cup is really heart breaking. Learn to respect sports and legends man before writing anything about them. Everybody goes through a rough patch and now its Team India so just support them and be with them instead of critising them and being jealous that they earn too much money and all that.. Give them some respect, show some faith and just back them. This is what true supporter it. You will again be all over Sachin if he scores a ton whenever he plays next. And ya before I end must remind you that he was the man of the series just a series before this world cup.

i don't know about you but I for one feel Sachin is far far great than Lara.Maybe today this is a debating issue when Lara retired after a better performance. But i would like to tell you some interesting things which might not have been noticed by you or our other friends : 1.When Lara made his triple century a debate rose who is greater Lara and Sachin?Sachin rose to occasion and soon Lara was in shadows. 2. During World Cup 1996 before every match best players from each teams would be pitted against each other.Sachin was pitted against Mark Waugh,Syed Anwar,Brian Lara,Shane Warne,Graeme Hick.............and as far as I remember I remember Sachin coming out victorious in every duel. More than this Sachin has time and again proved that he is the King on the field whether he was pitted against any bowler or any batsman. And whenevr he won a duel 100 crore Indians won that duel and he always shared that victory with those 100 crore people.Tell me how many time we 100 crore people have shed tears with him?Whenever he lost we only occupied ourselves in blaming only one man....Sachin.......He is old now.........should retire.......Lara,Ponting are better.......plays only for himself..........plays only for money and records.......can't handle pressure....etc... I'll like to assure you he is too great a man to get lost in this crisis. He will rise again ,of that I'm sure.Just keep your hope alive.
Lara scores 47 or 91 did he waste 25 or 30 ball to score 50 or 100. Moreover being a middle order batsman he had less opportunity to score more centuries. So who is great Lara or Sachin. Being a Indian I would say Sachin but in fact Lara is great.
Brian has certainly been the best batsman we have seen in our era. Brilliance, Stlye, Greatness and the Attitude...all define this excellent cricketer. Though it is the end of his one-day career, I am glad that the test career has still many great innings left to be seen from him Hats off to the batting genius
