'Our senior players were careless'
by Raghunathan Nair on Apr 04, 2007 09:38 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I also agree to his view that our senior players were careless and don't care at all.

I have read today's Times of India and seen Sachin Tendulkar defending senior cricketers and blasting Greg Chappel for his non cooperative attitude with senior cricketers.

Let me ask a simple question to Sachin Tendulkar why he is coming up with defending senior cricketers after they were showing reckless performance against a team like Bangladesh and they could not score more than 200 runs in a World Cup ? Sachin has played 384 one day internationals and I am sure all Bangladesh player together not played 384 ODIs.

Because now the public, media and fans are showing anger against players like Sachin, Dravid, Saurav, Sehwag, Zaheer, Harbhajan & Yuvraj for playing one of the worst ever world cup performance ever had, they want to divert the attention to Greg Chappel so that they can escape with all the wrong doings and make Coach the "Scapegoat".

Even I remember in one of the press briefings in 2006, Sachin himself told the media Greg is doing a wonderful job and we are building a team for the world cup. Suddenly what is happening to Sachin and Senior players ?

Sachin and the so called senior cricketers failed miserably in the world cup and succeeded in dismantling the Indian team.

Sachin also says during 17 years of his cricketing carrer he has give his heart and soul but he is not telling the public when he was given his heart and soul, he also got back whatever he wants in his life. Without giving something you cannot get something back !

Greg Chappel is also responsible for this state of affairs in Indian Cricket now but the seniors cannot put everything to Coach's court and they should also take responsibility for the humiliating exit in the World Cup. They should not get away with a mere warning but discipline them if they want to continue their career in Cricket.

Sachin knew that Indian people will support him if he shows some emotions. Indian public judge the players on the basis of their stature rather than on their merit and current form. Why is sachin not retiring giving opportunity for youngsters? Micheal atherton recently rightly called him a comic hero.

In the next series if Sachin Hits 2-3 centuries. surely everything will be normal Whether it may be media or Ian chappel or Greg chappel or Michel atherton. So Let sachin do what ever he want.

Sir , Please see todays Hindu paper , sachin said They re also very disapponted , the whole team is disappointed. Sachin is not blaming Greg for worldcup Exit, He is firing on Greg because greg wants to become Hero by throwing Seniors away. I guess Still Greg trying to become HERO of the episode. Almost in all worldcups we reached Quarterfinals atleast(except one), Where is the coach who wanted to set himself as great? No one. You are putting restrictions on seniors and making them to fail. No one says Coach and captain shuould take the whole responsibility. But It is the responsibility of whole team. So Dont blame Sachin and Others. I guess Indian team would have been in Semis with Normal coach for sure.
Hope Everything goes fine for Indian Cricket. Good Luck

hold your horses. sachin could have reserved his comments for a later time and date. chapell hasnt opined it anywhere. media leaks can come from anyone from selfish crickters to a rude coach. sachin's anguished comments can be true/ or could be to delfect his criticism by playing a sympathy card.

sachin is no longer at his prime, his recent performances have been average - the other day when sachin was batting well himself, there simply no comparison to yuvraj singh blasting away sixers. thats youth - thats good cricket. take jayasuriya's recent innings - it was awesome stuff.

i'd have preferred sachin doing some batting after the deed was done by chapell, not before. he sounds terribly guilt ridden himself!

Hi Ravi,

Do you mean say that Indian Cricket team lost the World Cup deliberately so that the players can show their anger towards the Coach ? If yes, they should have sorted out this issue before they departed for West Indies. Why the players were keeping mum if they knew they cannot get along with Greg.

Now the fact is that everyone wants to become Hero targeting others in order to hide their dismal performance and they can fool the public lke us.

Our political greats so called ligistlature, rule makers as per consittution and court of law but in reality nerveless figures resembling Don Quizote de lamancha and his pet Sychopanza have now started speaking smartly. We must kinow that our real sports spirits and given a death blow the moment these flimsy and filmy characters comes in to such performance oriented field. We must make soul search and improve the situation but no Political personality of present nature be allowed to dominate the sports administration directly or indirectly through their cronies.

"enemy of indian cricket" ?
i dont care if chapell's dropped, or i dont have him as my favourite ex-player. boss, he's a professional player, his stock improves if he's a successful coach. he calls spade a spade.

our rich & fat crickters do not like any kind of criticism. wright had enough of our team and its stupid regional politics, coteries, he was a diplomat so he wouldnt say anything. but to say that he's an enmy of indian crickters is stupid. his objective is to get the best out of players, amke sure no one feels indian cricket team is thier home - look at the ndian crickters mentality - any wonder why indians produce ceturies just at the time when his place in the side is in doubt ? and that it does not sustain afterwards ? to be back in form is one thing , and a century just in time for the forgetting public is another!

if yu want to clear the mess that is of the indian cricket, you might want to eliminate the entire team and state boards. solution lies in uniting them and cleaning up, not discarding everyone in place. the administration though can be discarded, none of them anything to do with cricket - get real professionals to manage

insead of showing support and solidarity with the players, this politician is criticising them. Not to mention that just few weeks back, we had a good home run against srilanka and the same politician was praising te players.

its not expected of him to throw off his temper due to few bad performances. showing his mettle as a responsible administrator, he should have judged he players in a big picture, but he seems to be a short term guy.

with peple like this man administering indian cricket, I feel worried about the future.

Why support and solidarity with these players ? You mean to say they can continue performing like the way they did in the World Cup ? Come on man, grow up. You are just a kid like Sachin & Saurav !!!

Instead of wasting our steam on discussing cricket, lets talk something more constructive and more useful. Now that Mr. Chandra has launched the Indian Cricket League much similar to Kerry Packers, I think BCCI and Indian Cricket is DEAD. No point in discussing things which have died.

Greg Chappel's mission
by Sunil Kumar on Apr 04, 2007 09:30 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I think Greg Chappel has done enough to show that the only way to command a team is to "divide and rule," and we remember the Britisher's did the same to rule over our country. I think the time has come to start "Quit Indian Cricket Movement" against Greg Chappel, for he does not understand our players nor he is capable enough to boost their enthusiasm to perform. This guy is a self-centered and eogist type, which has a tendency to only harm rather than do good, be it in any situation or area, for that matter be any person.

I think Chappel has accomplised "mission destruction" of the Indian cricket team and that he should now return to his country.

What if the so called great players don't perform in the absence of greg chappel? I think
India will be doomed for ever if the team selection will be on other interests. Our hockey team was the best in the world once but now it is the worst team in the world. Europeans have more power, stamina and skill than our hockey players and India is now nowhere before Germany, Netherlands and Australia. Similarly India will become the worst ever team in the world after 4 or 5 years and teams like Ireland, Netherlands and Bangladesh will prove to be much stronger than the Indian team. The solution lies in selecting the players on their merit and preparing internationally standard pitches rather than clamoring for removing the coach.

Senseless Talk By Mr. Amin
by JAFFER ALI on Apr 04, 2007 09:28 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

What is this bullshit? Still Tendulkar has many years of cricket in him? Oh God. Please save India from the clutches of these selfish people. They are not worried about the country. What is the use of scoring 14,000 runs and 41 centuries if India does not win? Tendulkar is playing for his own records no doubt about that. Till 50-60 he plays his natural game. After 60 he plays for century. And after century he wants to be "not out". This is his approach in the later part of his career. Whenever he wastes a ball to reach 100, he is putting India on the losing side. He can convert any ball to a scoring shot. This "Bradman" tag is ruining India. He should be chucked out immediately.
Can any one of you recall the memorable innings of Sachin (please note that India should have won the match) apart from the two innings at Sharjah against Australia and one against Pak in the World Cup? I beleive no true lovers of the country will ever support this mafia called Sachin.

Well said Ali! We don't need Sachin, Ganguly and Sehwag in the team. We need the youngsters who are hungry for success and can win us matches.
Grow up people, this is sports and not parliment that we need reprentatives from every region/state. Just look at the Aussies, they have got the mantra right - only Winning matters and nothing less. The old and worn out horses who play for their own records should be chucked out immediately. Bring in young talent who want to prove.

I fully agree with you Mr. Jaffer Ali. There are around 6 useless creatures (also can be called as culprits). The first and foremost is Sachin Tendulkar (an useless selfish culprit). Remember the culprits like Saurav Ganguly, Virendar Shewag, Rahul Dravid, Zaheer Khan, Ajit Agarkar and Anil Kumble should be kicked out of the team with immediate effect. As Mohinder Amarnath once said "Selectors are bunch of Jokers", it's really true.

I want Sachin Tendulkar to be sacked for his poor show in the World Cup.He is a useless player as we know when India requires the most he get out very early. When u are senior player u should take the responsibility and show ur performance. What for he is great batsman? Either , the ex cricketer are slave of Tendulkar or they are afraid that why they are not appealing for his ouster. He always played for his own record never for his country. If here BCCI donot take such step then India will go down.

Sack BCCI.
Sack Sachin, Saurav and all the old players.
Send a team of managers to Australia and learn from them the system of development of cricket, how they nuture talent and have a 'pipeline' of players.
That is the process of making a world class cricket.
And not based on personalities as in BCCI or Indian crickets.
That alone will reform Indian cricket.

sending our managers to australia to learn something would be another costly mistake. Neither our managers, nor the selectors have any ethics, commitment. The mail culprits are the Pepsis and cocacolas who have played the spoil sport. Advertisements agencies should be banned from approaching these players.

cure the senior players of thier afflictions of politics, they still have the talent. any idea why zimbabwe is doing so good currrently ? they hardly have any bickering or politics - but hardly any talent too!

firing anyone isnt a priority. just let all of them sit together, and bcci should tell fire them verbally to show us the results consistently or else be fired without payment - inluding the coach, the players, the peons and cleaners. let all be responsible!
