this article is sensible
by sudhir chauhan on Apr 04, 2007 12:17 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

very good points have been raised in this article
a good batsman acts according to need and his talent. we cannot justify that tendulkar is talented only to bat at a certain position. and moreover when a batsman goes in the middle then it is his skill and determination to do something is more important. no coach, no prayers can help him at that stage. if he really has talent then he will perform. our team requires favourable conditions to perform and that is not greatness. greatness is when you perform against odds.

Man your understanding is so lacking. In ODIs facing seamers with a new ball is so different than coming in the 20th over facing slower bowlers and with a semi old ball. And also as a middle order player your mentality is to face spinners and slower bowlers. Everythings so different. No wonder the Aussie team never does this kind of experimentation. Thye never told Langer to play at no 6, he alwyas played no 1. I ask if the best team in the world doesnt do it why India has to do it and be successfull too. Jayasuriya Saeed Anwar etc etc are the great examples of how sensible those boards and the coaches were in not meddling with your star batsmans position. Please dont argue based on myopic views like this.

if you cannot face those seamers then you should not say that you are a great player
bowlers like macgrath, pollock dont depend on help from the wicket. they bowl with same momentum. hasnt sachin batted at number 1 and scored a lot, hasnt he batted at number 5 and scored a lot, so why is their problem now.
and how many teams have so many spinners who bowl all athe middle overs
we should accept gracefully that it has been total lacking of determination and application of the players and you cant blame anyone else but only them

Are yaar Sudhir,
If you got so much determination...what has been your contribution to the Indian economy, environment, education, cricket, ete. etc....Learn to walk first then come to play cricket or even to talk about it. Man without brains is as good as a fire without oxygen..sooner or later you will be burnt out.

What you mean Do you see Test matches also? what you say about that? Tendulkar and Ganguly where they Bat?
Another team is not playing on the funda of Indian Cricket that after 16-17 overs bring back Kumble and Harbhajan.
Cricket is about to be mentally tough whether u r playing in Openning or lower down the order.Because openers are not sent in to just get used to the new ball they score on old balls also dont they according to you they shld get out and let the middle order batsmen do the next. comon man.

Well this article is flawed
by Rakesh Narayan on Apr 04, 2007 12:06 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Why was Sachins position changed? Why was he batting at 4 , when his best has been at no 1? Are you saying Pnting can bat at 5 or Hayden can suddenly do well at no 4. Cricket is a game played by a team of individuals. If you stop allowing the individual the room to do his stuff, then you are no longer the correct coach. I thought some initiatives by greg were good, but this kind of experimentation was uncalled for. Its very well known dravid is at his best at 3, and Ganguly as opener. If you dont want to play sachin as opener you shouldnt have taken him in the team. What hurts most is against SL both Ganguly and Tendulkar bowled their hearts out. why would they try to bowl well when they have no interest in the game or dont love the game. I just dont get why Greg is so angry with the Indian cricket players. Is it for not trying, or is it for not performing well enough so he could have a good record sheet. Btw I hope people remember Mr Ponting was caught eve teasing at a Kolkatta bar and is no model citizen. And yeahh Ian I lost all respect for ya when you pointed out Lara's greatness despite his super selfish 401 against England where he could have rather declared and won the game for Windies. Smooth talking does not mean you always make sense. Tony Grieg remains the only foreign columnist who is unbiased against the subcontinent.

Best batsman means you should be able to play in any position.....or atleast be able to defend your wicket..... here sachin is unable to even defend his wicket for even 5 overs.... also team is not playing full 50 overs... Now playing International cricket for 18 years... should not be so much affected by a coach ... huh

why he is playing in team then. If he is not happy with position 4, Either ask to take whatever you want or shut up and go home and play with your kids. Remember Sachin played in 2003 WC at number 4 in some places. He is playing at that position for quite time. If he is a great player, he need to be flexible and play acocoridng tothe Team's needs. If he wants Opener position, where Vuthappa and Sehwag need to play? Say did sachin has the same kind of flexibility and same power when he was at 17? We need to be flexible enough to play according to the situation. He is unable to play even 5 consecutive overs and time again getting out in the same fashion (inside edge on to the wickets).

Who the hell made Sachin Cricket's GOD and for that matter Cricket a religion. You ppl make us squirm in shame when uttering such shameless things withough a thought. Posters like "CRICKET is our RELIGION & Sachin our God " in stadium s all ovr the world are so pathetic and demeaning for the entire country. I don't recall seeing any other country calling cricket or any other game as its religion. That shows our lack of self-esteem and sense of proportion as a nation. And then to compare all this hyperbole with the actual performance on the field is sheer disgusting!

If u are so much in awe of cricketers let him be YOUR GOD. Worship him daily, not just in the Cricket season. But don't thrust new Gods on us. We don't need GODs, just WINNERS would do . And ofcouse Mr Tendulkar is not one.

by stalin on Apr 04, 2007 12:04 PM  Permalink

Whatever team is selected, whether seniors/aging players
are dropped or not,Chappell's contract shouldn't be renewed
The captain and the coach shouldn't
be involved with selections of the squad
A coach however good, cannot win matches
for the team, the players have to do it.

Struggling india
by Gurmit Singh on Apr 04, 2007 11:29 AM  Permalink

Article is nice one.I thin we indians dont understand professionism.I Many times writes this that Indian players dont apply minds...whether battting or bowling and fielding. Its minute things people say Mcgrath is gr8 bowler he is gr8 but batsman needs to apply mind like standing outside crease....change stance let bowler should think while bowling let take we have three fast bowlers ..if they bowl 30 max over and bowl three deliveries like slower one, yorker and bouncer...means batsman misss 30 balls as bouncer,30 balls as yorker and 15 slower balls taking 15 out as sometimes batsman judges it.so you save nearly 12.3 overs.......and in fielding change positions where once catches goes change place fielder there that have effect on batsman mentally......applying unorthodox placing .......please be professional its mind games not heart game....we indians play from heart....You needs to apply both......all the time i advocate foreign coach plus if india needs to appoint Indian as coach please start some diplomas in coaching and if person got that grade certificate he will be eligible for coaching hallf the indian who are running to coach india dont know ease to use computer and latest techniques.....I m not a cricket expert but same fool who loves watching cricket and got into it watching games. So pond can be filled with drop by drop

Not at all,

If she was not there, who would have educated us with the excellent statistical figures every time. You tell me, before she started posting such stuff, was an average cricket fan aware about such captaincy comparisons / records etc. but now all the serious and regular bloggers are aware of these figures immaterial whether they accept it or not.

At the contrast sheuli bose also supported saurav openly, but she was such open to comment all abusive languages against her opponents and now she is out of the blog.

So you have to stick to the basics and be consistent blogger irrespective of what criticism you get.

Bhai Gowda, What is difference if she is a girl or he is a boy/man. You should have enough patience and knowledge of the data source to gather statistics. and Mind you, Indian Girls were qualified to Finals this year in the Intercontinantal Cup in India. So it is immaterial what gender you have, the only thing to have is Interest in the subject.
