Who is the better batsmen?. Tendulkar or Lara
by Varad Chaturvedi on Mar 31, 2007 12:03 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Its been a point of debate for last 10-12 yrs. Its been a fascinating duel between the two in terms of achievements and accolades for the sheer class of batsmanship they have showered upon the cricketing fraternity. I have always believed that Brian Lara is a better batsman then Sachin Tendulkar for the simple reason that he still has a terrorising effect on the opposition bowlers because they know what he can do when at his destructive best. A man who has represented a weakened windies for almost last 10 yrs singlehandedly is still the best batsmen in their team and by a huge margin. He has maintained his style of batsmanship all along which has not been the case with Tendulkar. Mind u it doesnt mean that the little genius from mumbai is not a great player in his right. But Lara would go down in the history as a better batsman;player who always believed in his ability and talent and stuck to his game.Lets see what our fellow writers have to say. For me it is Lara who is better

lara is not only a good player but a good captain. he is 37 years old but still plays exciting shots.

I love tendulkers batting even though he has changed his style so much but i just hope he plays just 1 innings like the old tendulker.

This does not make any difference who is better than whom the questions should be which team is better and the answer is both are not good when they perform on field so weather it is Tendulkar or Lara, India got out of first round and WI will be out soon.

stop all the critizing...
by Reagan Rodrigues on Mar 31, 2007 11:50 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

common guys stop all the crap of dravid not selecting the right team, or tendulkar should retire and all the other nonsense talks... if u knew better than those who picked the team then why didnt u guys talk about it b4 the guys lost to bangladesh... when india trashed out sri lanka at home, all were looking foward to the same team and had greart expectations from them, nut just bcoz YOUR expectations were not lived up to, u have started getting your frustrations by critisizing the team, the captain and the Heores of Indian cricket, who in the past, have lived up to all of our expectations. we feel proud of ourselves wen some one says "oh- ur Indian, home of one the greatest batsmen in world cricket - Tendulkar" yes, i heard that wen i was in New Zealand. and it made me and my mates sooo proud. once we didnt have word to praise tendulkar wen he was playing soo well... there was a time wen we used to switch off our tv sets once tendulkar got out, coz we knew it was a lost game already... he has served our country and taken us to new heights... we should at the least not tell him, or judge when he should or should not retire... just watch, like saurav, even sachin is going to rise again... and i beleive it... and am sure many more like me still beleives in him.

Ian Chappel by Naeem
by namee warmee on Mar 31, 2007 11:07 AM  Permalink

I don't understand why people are criticizing Ian's comment on Sachin. It is quite abovious that because of injury (elbow, back etc) he has lost the power and timing. For the past few years he is clearly struggling to make runs. The big blunder the Indians made was to switch him to middle order batsman. When the spinners are introduced he does not have array of strokes, the only stroke he makes is backpeddle the ball behind wicketkeeper, he does not uses his feet like Lara to go on top of the spin bowler. It shows that his power has diminished considerably, perhaps because of injury or he is scared to use his feet. To be fair with him he has played non-stop cricket for more than 17 years and it has taken lot of toll on his bodies. I think he wants to quit cricket on high i.e. he wants to win some important matches for India so that people will remember him. There is so much pressure and expectations from him and thinking about it make him more nervous when he comes to the crease. If only we treat it as a game then our cricketers will perform very well. The people have negative thoughts about Indian cricket team, they feel that our team is only after money. It is the corporates who approaches them they want to brand their product, they take the risk and not the players. As far as Sachin is concerned there is a sense of regret in him that he is not accomplish much for Indian win consistently but as a batsman he has achieved all the records. Lastly, we believe he has only couple of years left in him, at the most he should try to be aggressive and dominant when he is batting so that the controversy created by Ian is fully settled as to who is the best batsmen in the world

Tendulkar should retire or Ian Chappel should shut up??
by Subramanyam Garigipati on Mar 31, 2007 07:45 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Who is Ian Chappel to comment on Tendulakar? What have been his achievements? Ian Chappel should be the one to stand in front of a mirror and ask "Mirror Mirror on the wall, who am I to comment on Tendulkar?" And promptly the mirror will reply "You are less than a no-body. First achieve even 1% of Tendulkar's greatness and then dare to speak against the maestro"

We are at fault...we are talking so much against our own team members especially tendulkar that we cannot blame others if they talk!

changing the capt.
by Praneen Kumar on Mar 31, 2007 06:25 AM  Permalink

I am really very-2 sad with the defeat of india because of not india lost the world cup but the player does not play there game well and confidently. dravid didnot select good playwr,he select the harbajhan instead of kumble who has taken the 4 wicket against barmuda and he was droped against sri lanka.uthapa was selected again in the match against sri lanka but he was not performing well

Players Of India
by Smruti Lenka on Mar 31, 2007 05:50 AM  Permalink

I am really happy with such a defeat of India. I cann't blame to any individual for this, this is due to wrong coach, wrong captain & wrong selector. There are more than 100 cores of Indian, but we cann't see any new face any youngster in the team. Our team players ready to make record but lacks the sprit of winning, Even I may like the act of Biranchi Maharana giving a slap to Greg Chappel at Barabati. Orissa is such a big state & so many plays very nice in Ranji and no one is getting selected, it is partiality. Old experinced players made sufficient records thry should retire now.

India performane was very good in 2005 and captain was dravid ..everybody knows that we chase consecutive 17 games.. that time yuvraj, kaif mongia raina and dravid play excellent..
In 2006, performance was suddenly down... what reason???

When Saurav was removed the team built by was still there.
The spirit and the team won the matches.
When dravid took over and started experimenting gradually the same team went astray and dtarted failing.

Money may be the reason as per some news chennels BCCI before sending team to WC they told some senior players that they will be paid as per their performance, in 2005 it may be different situation as far as money matters are concern. So players must have thought that it is not BCCI who will perform in middle of the field, some players must have decide to teach BCCI a lesson that do not mess with seniors otherwise result will be worst then what is was in 2005.

But this is fact.. some indian players are playing only for their record.. we observed that once they make 50 threw wicket.. they don t play for country...
there are still internal problem. no team work .. different group... if one player droped his group not perform..if one sebior player in team he emphasises to take other player from his group,...this is our tragedy..
you can see why sreesanth/kumble was out in crucial match..
