Hi Swetha...they are right....SA / Ireland match not taken in to consideration and SA has lost to Aus in the group stages and that is carried. If you see Aus and NZ points it is mentioned that they had played 3 matches but they had played only 2 in the super eights and the third is from the group match

NAGPUR, April 3: Sachin Tendulkar's deep anguish at his and other senior players' attitude being questioned by coach Greg Chappell was shared by a number of senior players contacted by TOI .
They felt the coach has mounted a smear campaign to tar their reputation while seeking to absolve himself of all blame for the World Cup debacle - something, they feel, he shouldn't be allowed to get away with.
One of them told TOI that Chappell has been indulging in "low one-upmanship" ever since he became the coach. "He has been smartly using the media right through his tenure and has been allowed to get away with a lot of mudslinging.
All these days we kept quiet because we respect the sanctity of Indian cricket. Besides, we didn't want to stoop to his level," he said.
Yet another senior player, who has kept quiet despite not exactly being Chappell's favourite bowler, finally spoke up to hit out against the coach. "It's quite obvious that Chappell has a guilty mind. That's precisely why he is having a go at anyone and everyone. He's also trying his best to shoot over Rahul's (Dravid) shoulders, saying that the seniors have undermined his authority. But please get this straight, Rahul has the respect of every member in the team," he said.
As for his statements about divisions in the team, this player asked, "Why is it that all these things are surfacing only now after the World Cup debacle? C'mon yaar, all the seniors have been playing together for over 10 years.
We have personally seen many ups and downs, and also the swings in the team's fortunes. There is a special bonding among us, which only we can understand. It's also about our friendship and our culture which an Aussie will never understand."
The seniors also accused the coach of repeatedly leaking the team's gameplans to the media. "The discussions within team meetings are supposed to be confidential. But most of them used to be passed out by him. We were all very upset but could do nothing to stop him," said another player.
"If only Sourav (Ganguly) had heeded the warnings (about not hiring Chappell as coach) of several Australian players, including the highly-respected Steve Waugh, Indian cricket would have been saved of this 'tamasha'," he added with obvious bitterness at the nasty turn that Indian cricket has taken in the aftermath of the World Cup flop.
A respected Indian cricketer choked with emotion as he went on to recall Chappell's 'high-handedness.' "In life, we have our share of good and bad experiences but, to be honest, I have not come across anyone like him before. He has made life hell for all of us. It's definitely the worst experience o

Jayawardene hopes Moody won't quit

ST. JOHN'S, April 3: Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene said on Tuesday he hoped their "brilliant" coach Tom Moody would continue with the team beyond the World Cup.
Moody, 41, has revived Sri Lanka since he was appointed in May 2005 and the 1996 champions are among the leading title contenders in the Caribbean.
However, the former Australian all-rounder is seen as a possible successor to England coach Duncan Fletcher, who has been heavily criticised after last year's 5-0 Ashes series rout in Australia.
Fletcher has a rolling contract with the England Cricket Board (ECB).
Jayawardene said Moody had brought a freshness to the team and pushed seniors such as himself, Sanath Jayasuriya and Muttiah Muralitharan. "That is the decision he has to make," he said when asked about Moody's possible exit.
"We've enjoyed playing under him. The things that he has done is push everyone in the team, from Murali to Sanath to myself to the youngest player in the camp.
"Everyday you try and learn something," he said. "That is something special Tom has brought to this team. Obviously a lot of the guys like the way he handles players as well. He wanted to take us to the World Cup and then see where he wants to be," he said.
"But it is his decision and we will have to acknowledge that. Sri Lanka cricket, whether he stays or not, will not divert from where we are going. If Tom stays back it will be brilliant."
The seven-week World Cup culminates in the Bridgetown, Barbados final on April 28.
Flexibility is important. Yes, but players mentality is also important. Some players may not be flexible. Senior players will have set ideas. Rahul seems very flexible (bats anywhere), but even he could not open the innings. From outside, I cannot figure out the difference between 1 down and an opening batsman. Specially for India where we never had a good opening pair, 1 down batsman is almost an opener. VVS and Rahul play phenomenal at 1 down but are disaster as opening batsman. I would think Greg would understand these simple things. He still wanted flexibility (duhh!) Some people will adapt better than others, coach has to understand these finer points and work with people. I still dont understand why the coach is not responsible? why is he there? why do we have one? Remember ---- last 40 years we never had such bad results with all the different players and different coaches this is the first. Mr. Greg please own up to it. He has never said, he was wrong. Hmmmmmm..... also remember he talked about vision 2007... his track record has been really bad. Look Whatmor, Woolmer, Moody, Paras Mhambrey, Robin Singh these are good coaches and they were average players. Average players tend to make better coaches -- why? because they understand the struggle, they understand about players insecurities. Even in US the football and basket ball coaches have been average players. Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas have been lousy coaches.... We are not going to solve the problems of Indian cricket in few days but we can start with Greg. Send him where he belongs .. down under.
When Sehwag does not play well it's his problem. I think Greg tinkered with his style too much. With all the right intentions he may have changed his style too much. Why is the coach not responsible for palyer's failure. When Pathan, Kaif went downhill noone question the coach. Why???? so why is he coaching? Does that mean you keep bringing in players till you find someone who listens to the coach? Greg always seemed too dictatorial. Players at highest level need mental preparation. Look at what John wright did last world cup. India started slowly and looked pale. He brought in the sport psychologist - Sandy ... the huddle was formed we went to the finals of world cup. Its the psychology which is far more important than the skills. These players have already met the minimum requirement of the skillset thru our selection process. I can tell you from my experience, the management can turn the world around by motivating people. Greg has clearly failed and must go.

I am a great Sehwag fan! and when I started seeing him going down I was surprised to see him changing his style :((( but its obvious now it was all a scam!
I Just want to say thank you very much Sachin...this is the best thing you ever did to save India....First it was Ganguly who went against Chappel and NOW its Sachin......we love u for telling the truth.....
Most Indians will feel ashamed because they betrayed Ganguly and went with Chappel & Dravid... Ganguly was right about Chappel....but it took us 2 years ....a world cup exit and many defeats to understand that.........CHAPPEL AND DRAVID ARE PATHETIC...
In a statement that is likely to have a large bearing on the immediate future of Indian cricket, Sachin Tendulkar has revealed that India's cricketers would be most disappointed with Greg Chappell, the coach, if he questioned their attitude.
In a rare public outburst, Tendulkar, not known to air his views on controversial issues, expressed his anguish. " Paani sar se ooncha ho gaya hai (Things have gone a bit too far to keep quiet). I've given my heart and my soul for 17 years. No coach had mentioned even in passing that my attitude was not correct," Tendulkar told Times of India. "Cricket has been my life for all these years and will always be."
His statements come in the wake of reports that many members in the team have rallied together against Chappell and Dravid and want Tendulkar to take up their case to the board. Cricinfo had reported on the crisis in the team , one largely owing to the rift between Chappell and the senior players, and Tendulkar's statements reinforce the players' stance.
"Tell me, the world has gone on talking about all this [our defeat and exit] but has anybody spared a thought for us?," asked an emotional Tendulkar. "Did they try to find out what we have been going through? I am shattered beyond words and I feel helpless. I've never felt so bad in my entire career ... The World Cup was our passion, our collective goal, our dream and that has been shattered
"I am shattered beyond words and I feel helpless. I've never felt so bad in my entire career." he said. "No matter how many Tests or one-day series you win, nothing else even comes close to a World Cup triumph. The World Cup was our passion, our collective goal, our dream and that has been shattered. And we all are terribly disappointed over it."
Tendulkar took responsibility for the World Cup debacle but responded to what he perceived as a slight to his commitment. "Again, it's not that we are defending ourselves. We do realise that we played badly and, as a team, we take full responsibility for that. But what hurt us most is if the coach has questioned our attitude."
The Indian board's working committee meets on April 7, following the meeting of the review committee the day before. It is expected that Chappell's report, due to be submitted to the board before April 6, will be scathing in its criticism of the attitude of the senior players including Sourav Ganguly, Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh. The working committee meeting will be attended by BCCI's office-bearers and seven former captains, including Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Ravi Shastri and S Venkatraghavan.

Players will try to save their skin. t is not time for bickering, it is time for rebuilding. Senior players have paid their dues and earned their laurels. Sachin & Sourav have scored enough centuries but it is time for them to leave the stage. Their presence will only hinder development of new talents. It is time to plan for 2011 cup by developing new talents. We do not want India to exit in the first round again.

Don't twist the faith. Give points to Tendilkar to not to mention any other player's name and using 'we' all the time. Nowhere is it mentioned that they rallied against both Dravid and Chappell. Read the post TIMES NEWS NETWORK / Ajay Naidu where an anonymous player says that the senior players have bonded together for 10 years and are close. And that Chappell is using Dravid by saying that they underminded him

Dravid had already taken the blameand said it was a collective failure, after SL match but it went unnoticed. This to sachin and co please start the blame game.Nothing interesting is there on tv atleast I can watch this and pass my time
The main reason for Indias exit from the world cup is from Sachin's batting position shifting from opener to no.2.He should bat as an opener..Remember in the 2 previous world cups sachin was the opener and he has scored maximum runs in both cups...This time the bullshit ideas of chappel caused us the lost...Remove chapple and allow tendulkar to bat at opening slot...Rather than blaming Tendulkar..We should encourage the genius cricketer..
As much as I am upset at TEAM INDIA's poor performance, I am even more shocked at the reactions and comments from supporters of Saurav Ganguly (almost all Bengalis).
They seemed to have forgotten that this is about TEAM INDIA and not MR. BENGAL. And how can they be completely blind to the poor performance of Saurav Ganguly over the years and the follies (politics) committed by him.
