Restrict the number of seniors
by Freek Guy on Apr 13, 2007 01:16 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

There should be restriction that the number of players with 250 match experience is limited to max 3 in the playing 11 so that youngsters really get a chance. This would mean that there should be a rotation policy for the selection of the seniors - Remember, Aussies used to do this recently, even Ponting, one of the most performing players, would sit out for some matches so that everyone gets a chance. In that case we shouldnt be having any problems resting our underplaying superseniors rotationally and still have them in the team in case we have to fall back on them

Dravid, do not worry, if we lose to B(ig)D(reamers) we can escape by saying that, 'We were getting ready for the England Tour'.

Indians are now feared of losing.I think the selectors will not drop many senior players.I feel bad for the youngsters.Indian cricket is going backwards. In few years we will be called the minnows.

Since DD is going to telecast all future matches, the advertisers will 'fix' the matches in India's favour.

You are right. Bcci's directive to drop senior players for Bangla Desh tour is all eye wash. They know that even without the seniors we can win against Bangla Desh. Since we have a tough cricket season ahead, Bcci does't want to see these players fail again. If they are selected and fail, then the board has to face the wrath of the public. It is like getting two mangoes with one stone. By sennding a young team and not selecting the seniors Bcci wants us to believe that the erring players are punished and youngsters are given chances. on the other hand it gives the seniors time to go back to the nets and prepare for the season ahead. In case if some of the youngsters fail, the board can always say that we tried but since they fail we are going back for experienced players. The board is taking the public for a ride.

Gongrats Indira. Your argument is very convincing. It is like you were present when BCCI discussed everything. I am sure, the last sentence uttered was, 'Let's take the Indian public for a ride, as we have been always doing'.
