Game plan against Sri Lanka
by Indian Fan on Mar 20, 2007 06:04 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Depending on match situation India can try some new things here.

Firstly, replace Uthappa with Pathan just for this match and get him to bat at one down and first chhange bowling. if he picks 2 wickets and score 40 odd runs at brisk pace. Its good enough

Seccondly, we all know how well Vaas and Murali prepare for the match. I am sure they would have already designed strategies against India already. To throw them off their game plan try openning the batting with Dravid and Sehwag. Remember how they reacted to surprises in the 6-1 defeat to India.

My recommended batting order would be:
1. Sehwag - Warn him no rash strokes in first 20 deliveries
2. Dravid - He has to play an innings like Ganguly's against Bermuda
3. Pathan - Surprise Package
4. Tendulkar - Beef up the middle order
5. Ganguly - he plays better against spinners
6. Dhoni - SMASH!! SMASH!!! SMASH!!!!
7. Yuvraj - to do what he does at his best, plus he can bat around the tail if needed
8. Kumble - Master legspinner, he handles pressure well with ball and this is surely a PRESSURE GAME
9. Harbhajan - He has bowled economic spells against Sri-Lankans
10. Zaheer - Spearhead
11. Munaf - India's reply to McGrath

For bowling start with Zaheer and Munaf. First change Pathan bowl him a straight 10 over spell from 11 to 30 overs. Kumble to strike and Bhajji to bblock runs and create pressure. Rest of the lot of part-timers can chip in if and when needed

And Greg Chappel talked about FEARLESS apparoch, dont give it up after Bermuda match, go for the Kill and make us proud

Best of Spirits and Performance,
Indian Fan

Drop Agarkar!!!

He is such a useless bowler. We need to get Sreesanth on board for the SL game. Also may be Pathan for Uthappa!?

Thats a stretch dude... If Pathan *only* goes for 45 runs bowling 10 overs with 1 wicket, it will be great thing. But I still feel he should play SL match instead of Uthappa.

i prefer india to bat first if it wins toss.opening batsman should be sehwag and ganguly.replace agarkar for pathan.agarkar is not doing well with his ball.whereas pathan can do something with his bat.

by anurag rai on Mar 20, 2007 05:16 AM  Permalink
YES U R RIGHT!India should drop agarkar and get sreesanth back as there is seam movement in the early part of every inings.Pathan for uthapa is a good choice as india needs strong bowling to restrict sri lanaka's runrate.Otherwise jayasurya will finish the match early if agarkar bowls with new bowl.it will be a choice between bhajji and kumble....as srilanka have 4 left handers in the top6.Can someone please tell bhajji not to bowl to many wrong one's to left handers....if they dont play bhajji then atleast make sure sehwag bowls 10.
Every team needs to make their own luck by clever thinking but in India's case....we have dravid ...india's biggest weakness as the captain.
SO
Good luck india....we need alot of luck

bajji always tried to bowl leg stump line against SL and got swept. He is no good against them. For that matter they know how to play Kumble also!. Spinner is a problem against them.
But having Pathan as 4th pacer is pro'ly good option. But its too much wisdom to make these changes & Indian team think thank rarely changed team composition after Win!!

Absolutely right

He is good for nothing. Dont know why hes there first of all! Now, play Pathan for Agarkar,Kaarthik for Uthappa. We need somebody to take singles in the middle over. Mr Ganguly has decided that hes not ganna take any of them. And the great Dhoni looks flop!

India has a good chance
by M Alem on Mar 20, 2007 01:26 AM  Permalink

India will definitely make it to round of eight. They will beat SL if they play like today. Only SL may face elimination if they lose to BD. Whoever loses SL/BD game will be eliminated. India has shown the world how to play the game and what they are capable of. India all the way.

you guys never satisfy. This is the greatest ever total in World cup history. Even if they would have scored 500 you people will say the same thing. You should appreciate the team at right times when they really perform.

This was a great performance. WC record higest score, largest ODI margin of victory. Sehwag is back in form and eliminated BD from round of 8. BD has no chance against SL. BD's record is pathetic. They lost all their ODIs against SL, except one in their last series. They also lost to SL in Champion's Tropy qualifier.
