Things are bad...
by prateek sethi on Mar 21, 2007 05:14 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Things look very bleak for India... how could they have lost against Bangladesh.. seems pretty ridiculos now.. but.. nyways, I dont see them beating SL.. those guys are in prime form.. the pitches suit them more than they suit us.. i think they just have a 20% chance.. alas.. i fear India vs SL will be India's last match in this world cup.. i wont be surprised if they are heading back home on 27th.. it'll be a sad day.. if that happens, world cup will be over for 90% of the world (with both India and Pak out).. hard to accept..but its highly likely now..

lol..true if when India pak out of worldcup more than half the revenue will be lost.

To make up for the loses, India and Pak should then play a 5 match one day series in Carrebean...(something like a loser's cup! )that will then generate some revenue perhaps even more than what the World cup which is just besides would :)))

wow!! that is a fabulous idea!
an India - Pak 5 match series just when others teams are playing the world cup.. and the 5th one day, coinciding with the WC final!!! It'll be interesting to see the turnouts in the two matches and the TV audience... I have a feeling Indo-Pak match wud beat the WC final hands down!!!!

(btw..somebody didnt like our ideas.. reported it for abuse.. :))))

Possible chances for India to enter Super 8
by bala kumaran on Mar 21, 2007 03:18 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

[1] It will be easy if BD beat SL and India beat SL.

[2] If SL win against BD and loose against India then definitely SL will qualify for Super 8 (since they have high net run rate) and it will be a NRR competition between India and BD. This is tough because we need to wait for the last match (Ber Vs BD) and BD should not win by huge margin. This is something out of our control.

Hence, it will be good if SL loose against BD and India.

if india is aiming for a berth in semifinal then better would be bangladesh beating sri lanka and india beating sri lanka with a better run rate. however if bangladesh win against then the only option is to beat sri lanka and india will be through to super 8s but with a match lost to bangladesh. best would sri lanka beat bangladesh by a huge margin such that bangladesh vs bermuda should make little difference.

But if Bangla gets to next round, with us, we wont be carrying any points with us.

Remeber the problem we had faced in 1999?

Tournamanet structure is such that ideally we want someone to progress in next round whom we have beaten.

Say India and Bangladesh make it to next round.
Bangla will carry points they have against us, and we despite beating Lanka, if we do, will not be able to carry single point in the next stage.

On the contrary if Srilanka march with us, they wont carry any points, we will(from our win against lanka).

I hope that makes sense?

It will be an uphill battle for BD. They lost to Kenya/Zim/Canada in the past. It is very unlikely that they can score 400 against Bermuda. They have already played too many games in last two weeks as they played a series against Bermuda and Canada after coming to the Carrebean. They also played practice matches against Scotland/NZ.

Beating two world champions in a row will be extremely difficult for the young, inexperienced side. SL is much tougher than India. Murali rules the world. Vaas and Malinga are way ahead of Zaheer/Munaf. It will be a very difficult outing for BD tomorrow. They have to play way above their potential to have any chance.

Now that india is in the round of 8 with yesterday's record setting game, how far do you think India will go? Semi-final berth should not be difficult.

Ups & Downs in the 1st week of WC-2007
by Jainendra Jijnasu on Mar 21, 2007 12:03 AM  Permalink

2nd week in the WC is running now.Till the date,Aus & WI have confirmed their birth in the 2nd round(Super-8) in the tournament. The way we defeated Pak is amazing & warning to all top teams in the world that our team can easily defend a small total also.Although,Pakistan early exit from the extravaganza & shocking incident of loss of Bob Woolmer are very very dissapointing but some amazing records like 6 sixes in a over, record breaking highest score by India in the History of WC & victory by record margin(i.e.257 runs) in the History of ODI are pleasing news for all cricket lovers.2nd week in WC is running & excitement are increasing.Let us see how many another new records are made in the extravaganza. But I am very very excited some of the best game of our team(WI) in the 2nd round & some great game like Aus-SA & Ind-SL.

The way Ganguly made 89 against Bermuda...it seems that he is playing for his record not for the team.He play so slow that if we thought the team would be Aus,WI,SA,SL then what would have happened???So,Gangu;y should play for the team not for himself to secure thir birth in the team.In this prospective,I remind all of u a statement given by Ganguly after losing a match in Sharjah after making century by Tendulkar some years ago,"I do not give any inportance to that innings like century which is failure to winning the team"?U should also remember that statement Mr. Ganguly???As we won the match agaonst minnow(Bermuda),so no any comments are madde by experts or peoples.

The shocking incident of Bob Woolmer's exit is very very dissapointing news for all the Cricket lovers. They sacrified themselves for the game. The way Pakistani peoples & legendary cricketers Zahie Abbas,Imran Khan,Javed Miyandad etc crticized him was disheartening. But all asian peoples should learn from this incident that Game should be treated as a game.To win or Lose is just part of a game.Nothing are treated in a emotionally agressive way. We(Asian) People always treated game in a worst manner. It should be stopped. No any players or coach loses their match intentionally,it is just part of a game. So,it should be just treated as a game only...............

World cup and India
by Bhoom on Mar 20, 2007 09:04 PM  Permalink

This is the first time I am watching cricket with somuch interest after the last world cup. I was sure dissappointed seeing india's performance against Bangladesh, but we must give Bangladesh credit for putting up a good play. However, I was very happy with India's performance against Bermuds. This has definitely raised my expectations of the team. I hope India does well in this world cup.

This is just a game, we should support our players and wish them well. We should not get emotional and break someone's house just because he has not stood up to our expectations. I feel sorry for Dhoni for what happened to him and his family. Its good to be great fans, but we should not intimidate our players by showing anger in a destructive way. Lets all support our team and wish them well.
