RE:Sania & Olympics

I think this comment is quite unnecessary. Which other sportsman/women in our country is capable of bringing any medal (forget Gold)? Do Sania represent only one particular community? do not be communal everytime.

well said.... don't forget we have few great sports star who are muslims...for few like Zafar Ikbal , Mohd Sahid helped India to Win Hockey Medals in Olympics...Patudi , Azaharduiins captained India in Cricket...
No one is expecting a medal from you, Miss Media Hype, so spare us the carefully crafted filmi sound bytes. Enjoy your media-manufactured glory while it lasts. The dalas of the print and electronic world will soon dump the moment they find another marketable item. You'll be known for your flashy T-shirts, those ear and nose rings, and yes, the controversies and media statements on all issues - we've not forgotten your gem of wisdom "virginity is of no use" only to backtrack later - poor Khushboo was left tending the shit - that's another issue, though. I'm surpsied that Sania Mirza's not given the country her take on the Nuclear Deal or the Indo-Iran pipeline, on Narmada, on Gujarat riots, how bad and 'communal' Narendra Modi is, on Nandigram, on the trust vote, on Mayawati, on WTO, you know, all the 'intellectual; causes the chatterrati loves to yap about, more than any tennis achievemnets. And do remember madam, a man called Peter Sampras has not enjoyed even half the column inches or airtime in his ENTIRE playing life that you have managed to garner in just half a decade. Yet, Sampras belongs to the genuine hall of fame; yours is a creation of the sensation-mongering Indian media. Stay away from them, if you do care for your game. Otherwise, your on the same plane as othjer Indian celebrities and fake 'heroes' with nothing but feet of clay. Jaganniwas

Peter Sampras came from a country where there is no dearth of sportsmen/women. Our country do not have any such pretence.(apart from Hockey and few cricketers) The media will certainly go after anyone who figure in the international arena. Do they have any choice? I am not justifying her fame (?) but in the absence of real talents what is the other alternative?

Mr. Iyer,
It is not by Sania's choice that she gets the column inches - it is the news starved media that has created a hype. She by herself would probably like to lead a normal life playing tennis to the best of her abilities.

Mr. Iyer, Remember Pete Sampras is not an Indian and not a Muslim. Only if it is an Indian Muslim, or a cricketeer, our media - both print and electronic, would go hyper.

Keith dsouza you donot have anything to do except lusting for others and spending no.2 income of your careless parents.Instead of criticising her game be a man and become a state level player instead. It is my challange you can not even become a city level player. All those who are criticising her are frustrated persons who themselves can not do anything worth mentioning.
RE:Tough to win the first round - - - That should be your Statement Sania :))

I think Olympic committee should be generous enough to give a medal to Sania even if she loses the first round. Winning the first round is very difficult my friend.
Dear Anoop, had govt been spending money on players for olympics and ashian games..we wud have been winning medals...the entire preperationa and money involved goes with from the player himself or the sponsers....GOVt has nothing to do with it. and the sports person can take part and represent the county if they are able to beat the qualifing mark. and if some one is representing the country that means he or she is the BEST. we are no body to critisize when we cant even sponser even one Sports man/woman. We have never done anything for our previous heros who have brought glory to the nation in past..just go and see the plight of those persons who have gold medal to show but dont have food even once in a day. I hope u understand what I say ...

Dear Miraj, I agree with your statement. It is not only the sports persons fault, but the government also is to be blamed. So who is sponsoring our sports person for this Olympics? Any answer to that? Please come back. This should be interesting discussion

I do not know much abt the sponser's but we have made a small comittee in our city where we contribuite whatever we can and try to help those who have done something for the nation and are still denied or are anable to keep up with their level.

Meraj, please note that Sania was the only person to get a financial aid of Rs.20 lakh from Andhra Govt. Besides she has been getting loads and loads of advt offers from most government and public sector units. It is not lack of funds for Sania, it is lack of her capacity. Just because she was a Muslim, Indian print and electronic media and congress ruled government gave her such a boost. Though people like Anju George, PT Usha, Koneru Hampi have achieved much more at international level, they are not given any prominence because they are not muslim.

Why should we keep out religion? Thats the current reality of life. Its the minority appeasement by successive congress regimes that has brought Islamic militant terrorism right to our door steps. It has made life difficult for majority of moderate patriotic Muslims as well.

I totally disagree with your opinion. This is pessimistic mindset. Do we elect government to create sports stars or just promote the sports ? I agree govt. does not have sufficient funds for Olympics team but that does not mean we have brightest star getting wasted. BCCI did not have any money to give to its cricketer when they won 1983 world cup. Lata Mangeshkar had to help BCCI with concert in Delhi. Its us who has to come with bright ideas to generate revenue and resource and facilities to create sport stars of tomorrow.
I like her quote, 'It's going to take a lot to win an Olympic medal'. Judging by her recent form (as well as her achievements so far), maybe she should begin by saying "It's going to take a lot to win! " Fullstop. All that she has been able to achieve so far is a lot of hpye, publicity and sound bytes.
