Can he?
by shiva on Feb 20, 2008 06:07 AM  Permalink

Though I congratulate his commitment, one can never predict. You are not the same person, as we all go through experiences. How one feels ten years down the road is difficult to fathom. One can lose the motivation. Jim Courier started sliding in his rankings suddenly and could not even qualify for some tournaments within a couple of years of slipping from top rankings. Ditto Chang, despite his huffing & puffung in the qualifiers, reality stared at his face! His religious belief made him seek a miracle, but God wanted him to look at other alternatives!

Sampras defeated Haas couple of days back and even Federer couple of months ago, but knew he could lose more than any possible wins. Mats Wilander lost the motivation once he won all, except Wimbledon.

Despite Federer's plans, one can never predict what lies in store. But I salute his commitment, maybe a way to motivate himself to stay the course.

federer is a true champion! to have accomplished so much at 26 is phenomenal! his clinical & perhaps dry style of playing may not be as charismatic as agassi or becker's but his genius certainly cannot be undermined. keeep it up fed!

Becker charismatic?? Because he used to fall down heavily while volleying? Only a couch potato could call that athleticism or charismatic. Becker was a POOR athlete, by any means of reckoning, esp compared to a Federer or Sampras-even his contemporary, Stefan Edberg had better athletic skills and stamina(he won 3 5 setters to reach USO92 final and won that in a 4 setter).Becker would have fallen flat.
As for Federer and Nadal, it is pointless even comparing their fitness with Becker. They would squash him like an insect with their speed and firepower.
