God bless this great Champion. It would take another 100 years to emulate such awsome feat accomplished by this man.

Lets not doubt on other's capabilities as this smells like a frustrated Indian. Lets focus on our talent and ways to nurture them as this frustrating attitude is not going to help in any way.

it is ridiculous to think of such doubts about the player who is the greatest not only olympian but greatest sports person world has ever seen.no one will be able to match his ability anymore.the only competitor of Michael Phelps is only Michael himself which he will once again show in London 2012.God Bless Him.We should be proud that we have seen his achievements.so PLEASE mr Fuzz dont ever think such absurd thoughts.

Dont Compare one sport with another
by MADHAN on Aug 16, 2008 11:38 AM  Permalink

take boxing as example...after all his hard work he can win in that particular weight category only...that means only one...but for swimming so many medals...i dont know whether its right or wrong...but never compare one sport with another and dont conclude phelps is the greatest olympian ever...its not reasonable...he is a great swimmer because he is acheving great things which other swimmers could not...

I would rather give it to someone who would excel in track and field event...CARL LEWIS....SINCE MORE THEN 90% OF COUNTRIES WOULD NOT HAV POOLS FOR THE SWIMMERS TO PRACTICE OR FOR PEOPLE TO PICK THIS SPORT.....WHILE TRACK AND FILED IS THE MOST LIKELLY SPORT PRACTISED WORLDWIDE.....SAME WOULD COUNT FOR SHOOTING VIS-A-VIS...BOXING IF AKHIL WINS ONE FOR INDIA

a swimmer and bagful of medals.
by vinay on Aug 15, 2008 03:47 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

a swimmer has got many options/events to improve the medals tally.
to compare swimming medals with that of other sports is like comparing runs and wkts in cricket.
a batsman can score, 100 or even 200 runs (in odis, say). but a bowler cannt take more than 10 wkts in an inning.

so, swimming sports is such that there r many events which can fetch u a medal unlike other sports. eg a tennis player can get only 2/3 medals maximum in an olympic, as the events r less for that sports.
so dont compare a swimmers' medal tally with that of other athletes.
