One method to get rid of DISHONEST office bearers of Sports Bodies
by Vipul on Apr 29, 2008 07:44 PM  Permalink

Income Tax department should look at the IT Returns of all office bearers before their appointment to an office of a sports body (say IOA) and then, check the IT Returns after their appointment. If there are discrepancies observed in the IT Returns' amounts or in the wealth the person has, mercilessly conduct an IT Raid and hand over the case to the Vigilance Wing and CBI. That way, many politicians and Babus will not even come forward to occupy such positions also. It also becomes non-lucrative for them. Only those who are genuinely sincere will take up the responsibility.

Slam the boards, A-SLAM! Get us the Olympic Gold!
by Vipul on Apr 29, 2008 07:30 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Aslam bhai,(1.)get our players to get psychologically strong. Half the time the match is lost even before it starts because we have in our minds given up. (2.) Please improve their physical fitness (3.) Improve training facilities and regulate their diet (4.) Enforce strict discipline (5.)Please develop specialists for converting penalty corners and penalty strokes (6.) Have back up players for key positions - you don't have to panic if the key player is sent off for a foul or otherwise (7.) Get sponsorships and motivate the players with better money - i know we all play for the passion of the game; let us get realistic and make hocket monetarily remunerative (8.) Keep all politics out -hockey players' seniority, committe members' seniority, socio economic backgrounds of the players etc (9.) Don't allow Mantris and Babus to influence you or tell you how to run the show (10.) Don't ever make the mistake of encouraging the likes of Jothikumaran and Gill -in other words, don't have 'chamchas' (11.)Improve hockey in not just 5 or 6 cities but in many cities - lay Astroturf in many places in each city; even ordinary schools abroad have Astroturf fields for hockey while important stadia don't have it in India (12.)Don't be corrupt, please (13.) Don't send teams abroad in which there are 16 players and 25 observers-keep the Mantris and Babus out, please (14.) Take ownership and be accountable for the team's performance (15.) Encourage the views of other respectable past players

(16.) Never blame other sports(esp cricket) for hockey problems. Hockey problems are hockey related and have nothing to do with for example cricket.

New Committee and Contradictions
by GODAVARTI RAmesh on Apr 29, 2008 07:18 PM  Permalink

While it is heartening that somehow we got rid of Mr Gill . The new committee appointed is a strange Mix of old and new.Poor fecilities, lack of support and motivation notwithstanding the main problem of the Nationsl team is the style of play. Our traditioinal style of Hockey has become redundant. In fact the world body has introduced Astro Turf and changed rules of the game to counter the subcontinental style of Hockey. Need to drible ,short passing and stick work have been thrown out of window, due to above changes.Today top teams like Holland Germany,Austalia, korea,Spain,Argentina have specialised in Style of Hockey which calls for
Hard hitting, man to man marking ,onetouch/deflection passing, deflection goals which happen very fast. This style is devised to counter the asian/traditional style and requires strong physical attributes.

Indian teams now are neither allowed to play in traditional style nor are they able to master the european style due to inherent weakness. To find an answer to this would be a great task of the new admin. In any case reaching top in Hockey is much more difficult than in cricket.
Because in Hockey there are as many as 7 to 8 equally strong teams to beat. Whereas in Cricket there is only one Australia which is truely strong.

Heads of sports bodies.
by A. V. Subramanian on Apr 29, 2008 07:01 PM  Permalink

Most of the messages posted so far points to limiting the tenure in office for all sports. This should be done on a contuis basis and not all at one go.Now after 6 months remove Kalmadi, a year later football chief and so on. Also retired players should be involved in improving the game. On and of the field bahavior should also be taken into account while selecting teams as these playwers are brand ambvassadors of Brand India.

Please remove Suresh Kalmadi
by Joy Benedict Dessa on Apr 29, 2008 06:37 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Please remove Suresh Kalmadi because he is as big a culprit as K.P.S Gill , who hasn't contributed much to the development of sports in the country.Mr. Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi of the All India Football Federation also needs to be removed . The Presidentship of all sports governing bodies should be held responsible and should be there for a particular period of time like 2-3 years , after which they should be assessed and removed if they have been unable to acheive the targets . Otherwise Indian sports will always be under par .The sports ministry have to be more active in this issues.Jai Hind. Joy

Need to put an end to the era of charlatans who ruled the sports bodies with the sole intention of turning rich and famous and not care a dime for the sport or nation's pride. The Income Tax department should raid their offices and homes and expose them. Make the crucial changes in office bearers early to reap the benefits soon. Jai Hind!

It is amazing how our sports bodies have people with no conscience and commitment to the nation. It should all change if we have to be a SPORTS SUPER POWER in the world. Sooner they leave their posts, the better.

Kalmadi, time to move
by Vipul on Apr 29, 2008 06:18 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is high time Mr. Kalmadi moved out and made way to an Olympian who almost won us a medal but for the appalling training facilities and politics, such as Milka Singh. We do not need administrators and Babus. We need passionate people who know the lot of the athletes and know what exactly needs to change. Please move on, Sir! Otherwise the Govt should initiate steps to appoint a new IOA team. The objective is to win Gold medals - not merely make polished appearances at the Intrntnl Olympic Committee meetings in Switzerland or at Olympics. Please understand it in the right spirit. The FASTER you resign, the HIGHER we will go, the STRONGER our chances to win Gold medals. Jai Hind!

Agreed, Kalmadi is corrupt. But will the people of his constituency realise this and elect some one else in the next general election. I am sure, they are not going to do that. By this time, he has not only amssed huge wealth, but also built up a vote, which none will be able to break. this is what all Mulayams, Lalus and Pawars are doing. People who criticise politicions vote for these very politicians knowing well their true colour.
