One will feel proud to be an Indian and especially an athlete (to have represented India) upon being called to run during an event as important as Olympic torche arrival.
Tibetans are correct to raise voice against how they are being treated by China but it is too much of them to ask India too to participate in their protest. India sheltered them, they are the guests who are supposed to be greateful to India - not to use us ?
Imagine our loss/disappointment on being disquilified in Hockey ? When being part of an event is so much important to us; how can Tibet ask us to stay away from it just because CHINA is hosting it ?
They are taking advantage of our hospitality indeed !

so olympics are more important than human lives.
its not the question of someone taking advantage of our hospitality or china hosting the olympics.
its about human rights violations and we need to have a stand. for the hman rights violation or against???? and i think bhutia is AGAINST human rights violation. so am I. where are YOU?

Jonas, i have been reading your comment for some times and despite Mr. Goutam profusely explaining the importance of standing for Human rights, you have been saying Tibetans were taking advantage of India. All of us should stand for human rights..what would you think if somebody entered your own house and killed you parents and you were helpless and your neighbour who could help just remain a spectator. Won't that hurt you? same is the case here..we cannot be a spectator of China's brutal killings in Tibet. We must stand for them as good human being and as a neighbour. It has nothing to do with nationalism but everything to do with humanity. Bhutia is right in his own way...I am grateful to him for standing up against gross voilations of human rights in Tibet. Tibetan people need our support...if people in free countries especially cultural rich indian do not support them..than what is difference between us and the Communist killers. Same. We must stand for Justice and Human rights. And Tibetan taking advantage of India is blatant lie...do you know when whole world comdemned India's nuclear test, only Dalai Lama came forward to fight for India's case in the world. Even today, wherever Dalai Lama speaks he speaks very highly of Indian culture. Last year I attended on eof his talk in New York City...He said only India has a moral and spiritual values to lead the world towards a path of righteousness. The jampacked American listeners took every word falling from his mouth. I thi

Bhutia is not right in doing what he did but at the same time this is not about messing with China. Just by supporting China, China will not return the disputed territory to India.
This abotu India's stand internationally in an even as important as Olympics - no matter which country hosts it. For example, if our arch rival Pakistan hosts it, will we stay away from it ? Territorial matters should not be mixed up with Olympics.

wats the reason for not supporting tibet and by being silent supporting china..> FEAR, LACK OF GUTS..?
- Sometimes I doubt whether a government exists in our country. - There were patriots and strong leaders who always fought against oppression and for freedom. Now our government is not able to take a decision on its internal maters and keeps mum where it has to raise its voice %u2026.such a shame for indians - How such a government can speak against the oppression against minorities in other countries once it is not able to talk for its own. ? - If the government cannot act against atrocities against poor and marginalized. Get out of the throne. Depending on communist support and not able to take bold decision on what UPA government boasted nuclear deal as an achievement ?????? - as well as, if a government cannot raise its voice against Chinese atrocities against Tibetan people by respecting the feelings of majority of Indians
we have to think whether we need such a shameless back born less leaders to rule country boasts its tradition & culture moreover snached freedom from the mighty English of those days
Anyway at least one person (Butia) showed the courage%u2026%u2026thank god and hats off Butia

SAMUEL...- YO DUDE..! RIGHT ON TARGET..! NICELY PUT THE THOUGHT ACROSS..
Like Bhutia, will others - like Milkhasingh, PT Usha, Aamir Khan & many others who are invited, have the courage to say "NO"?? If yes, they MUST skip the torch relay.

All those who named have NEVER won an olympic medal, so at least let them carry the torch.
Conratulation Bhutia- it feels great to see that there are some superstars like you who are concerned about the killing of innocent tibetans by China. Hope Aamir Khan, PT Usha etc are listening- it is a good opportunity for the international community to show solidarity for the tibetans and fight against this injustice by China. Gandhian party is in power but led by people who has nothing in common with the father of our nation. They are spineless to go go against CHina.

A peaceful nation, heritage and history was lost with Tibet - the last shangri-La. Country which sheltered jews, parsis and many many more from opression has finally given in. Honor, courage and virtue are the things worth beleiving in. We give this up for the peanuts that China might offer us, we'd be better off dead.

Well, history is not done in 1 day or two. Its a long time from now who will teach whom. But it will also emerge who were shameless when unarmed country and its monks were attacked. They fled and lived in a different country and beleived in non-violence for 40 years. All what they got was more advice and they are the goons? See "Seven years in Tibet".

Now these are small countries 1/100 of india size and you are asking to mess wtih china ?

We win against pakistan because we have a better Military power than pakistan but not with china, and be assured Russia will never support a war against china nor will the USA since for them the trade with china is too big a risk to be taken .

true dat blogs wont win us wars..! i was just talking about attitude.. its true that China has greater military might..so wat r v supposed to do..? sit quite and nod our heads to watever they say.. be their servants..? Question of war arises only when its the last resort.. we are also losing verbal and attitude battles with china at present bcos of our foolish and spineless govt.. pakistan has always surrendered at war against us.. but it still has the attitude to talk face to face- eye in eye. even china is no match for US.. but it does command respect from US whenever some matter arises.. OUR POLITICIANS LACK IT..- dats my point NFD..

I agree with your last paragraph and i too have written about that only. Even I dont want to see India lose, but at the present condition when we are not a match to china why should we unnecessrily mess up with them or else we will be reversing all the progress the country have made in the last 15 years. We should be a bit selfish here and first protect Indias's interest, then we can think of influencing or protecting other countries, and to top it all Indian govt has already recognised Tibet as a part of china so if we start helping Tibet to get independence we will be making a fool of ourselves.
