Coming in after a rest with white means a big onus on GMs, esp after missing out on great opportunity to convert a won game earlier.
However, this game is good, cuz Svidler is considered an exponent of the Marshall himself and Anand having won a similar game against Leko, with advanced ...h5 by black. Svidler chose to avoid this line for obvious reasons. I think the culimating move was 39...Qc7 although, Svidler was short on time and lost in complications.
Marshall, although one of the most analysed openings, still is always very complicated and makes for tremendous watching...

I have the admiration for vishy and they way he has played all these years. But why the hell does he live in spain. Is he gonna relinquish his indian citizenship and become Spanish? If he does I think he will lose all his fan following.

jimmy u know the half story only... u need to read biography of anand to understand his struggle and all ur doubts get clear. i m telling u in short..
at the time when anand was rising, thr was no scope for chess in india... thr was no support frm indian govt, media, public or corporate world...
so he settled in spain for his chess career.. spain govt has a gr8 role in reaching to this position in chess for anand...
when anand first time become world champ, thr was more celebration in spain than india...
spain public and media has more support to anand than we indians.. we indians always fail behind in motivating our real life heroes...
inspite of all this.. anand has offered the citizenship of spain.. but he refused to accept..
and thus hes a proud son of both spain and india...
thr r lots of world class tournaments in european nations.. so living in india is not easy for anand.
whrever anand plays.. the tag of india is thr not spain.. anand is always recognised as indian...
we need to make india a better place, so that anand like players dont need to settled abroad...
The line of this Marshall opening is so well-analyzed, yet GMs come with subtle variations.
In all fairness, Svidler could have easily held a draw and was doing pretty well. He made some really gross inaccuracies, presumable under time pressure and allowing the knight on f5 on move 37 was the final blow.
Well done Vishy!
However, 9 rounds to go and lots of chess still to be played.
We are making criketing zeros to heros. Now we are little bit concentrate on football also. But I am sure most of the people even donot know the name of Vishi.Ignoring real champion is a tradition of our India

Same way, they don't even recognise who's Ram. BUT THEY SURELY KNOW THE NAME OF SOME STRIP CLUB DANCER IN SOME OBSCURE JOINT OF ITALY OR USA OR BRITIAN...
If Anand maintians this performance thru the rest of the rounds he will become WORLD CHAMP will cross 2800 ELO mark again and probably get his highest rating ever!!!
he let off morozevich in last round, but this round was solid preparation won!!!
