While both of them play excellent tennis, Sampras was definitely the better of the two. Sampras did have many good competitors compared to what Federer has now. His serve and volley had no peers.

Sampras was truly great but Federer is also very close..Sampras played against the aged Lendl, and the ones like Becker,Edberg and Agassi who are true champions of the game. Federer is also up against Agassi in his prime and the likes of Hewitt,Roddick and of course Nadal,his nemesis on clay. He makes his opponent look like a fish out of water..Thaz why people think that the players he is playing against are not that good..BTW Hewitt,Roddick Nadal all are grand slam champions and really good players to be beaten..
federer hasnt played with great players.he always plays with roddick,safin,hewitt etc...the great pete has played with some big players.so heis all time great.

Federer has played against Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras(In 1 Match). ANd he is playing against Rafal Nadal. And do not under estimate roddick and hewitt, both had lost the rhythm but i trully belive they will be back in form for at least once.
