Anand vs Kasparov
by Suresh S on Dec 19, 2007 03:10 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The highest ever FIDE rating was 2851, which Garry Kasparov had on the July 1999 and January 2000 lists. In the most recent list (October 2007), the highest rated player is the current world champion Viswanathan Anand of India with a rating of 2801. Rating supports Kasparov against Anand

Kasparov is scared

Neither does he have the guts to take on Putin in elections; nor does he have the guts to take on Anand. Just like the Russian election where he ran before even a chance to participate he will run again.

Anand knows full well hence the challenge; Kasparov knows full well too hence he hides.

Keep dreaming Major!

ELO - highest rating held ever continuously from 1986 to 2005
Chess Oscars - 11 (4 of Anand)
Linares winner - 9 (2 of Anand)

Am not taking away from Anand because am an Indian too. Point is Kasparov is much ahead, wonder if anyone can match his records!! Indian sentiment doesn't work here :)

Its simple buddy; Kasparov has been a has been with his victories in the past many when Vishy was not even around.

Its like scoring against Zimbabwe and comparing that score to some one scoring against australia.

Let Gary puttar come to field now.

He is a darpok

kasparov is far above than anand and other current players.. kasparov had challenged frm spassky to karpov to anand to kramnik every one.. and anand was on the top of world but cant overtake kasparov yet..

it seems u have love for putin... for that only 1 thing i'll say.. am not interested in politics..

if u want to discuss chess politics or kasparov vs anand in better way.. come to chessninja site..

Why go to any other site? Want to run and hide like your Hero Gary puttar??

Any body can say "I am great" but greatness is only meaningful if you can meet the challenges.

Kasparov is making empty noises in politics shows how "brilliant" he really is.

if it takes place, it will be a battle between a fully grown tiger and a wounded tiger...even kasparov will not be interested in this and he might instead ask our "dada" ganguly to play anand....

Its understandable
by Vijay on Dec 19, 2007 12:45 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Kasparov is the only player to have a positive score against Anand.

His loss against Kasparov in the World Championships affects me a lot and it should hurt Vishy even more.

Anand was one up and missed out a sitter when he should've won the very next game yet blew away with a draw. Kasparov came back strongly in the remaining games to thrash Anand.

Kasparov wont be back anytime soon. He has already entered active politics in Russia and busy opposing Putin. Was listening to Kasparov in CNN in the prelude to Russian elections. He still boasts the same arrogance. :)

Right, he will not come back! I don't think any player on this Earth can match Kasparov. What do you mean by arrogance? Its proves that people of Russia (sportsmen) have guts to get into politics. Can we expect the same in India? Leave Kasparov, is there any leader in India who can match Vladimir Putin? I don't think so :)

What is doing in Russian politics; other than making general awaz and nothing practical; did not even have guts to stand for election.

Its simple to know if he can be matched or not let him come forth he is being challenged.

But kasparov retired so its not nice on ur part to ask him play a game again. He is no.1 during his time ..you too played few..but now you are No.1 so enjoy..these are small things..after 100 yrs into future it doesnt matter if you beat kasparov or not...human race will be busy in thier current activities then. Nice to see your enthusiasm even now :-)

Kasparov in one of his interviews a couple of months back said that he has not given up Chess and that he keeps in touch with the game with the help of computers etc. Gata Kamsky was not around for many years but still returned 3-4 weeks back and won an international tournament. It is only fair on the part of Anand to have a desire to play Kasparov at least one last time. After all there is not much of a age difference between the two as well. For Anand who has beaten the top most players around to become world chess champion for a second time, it is only natural that he would like to peak an unscaled frontier in the form of defeating Kasparov (if he can) which is not impossible for him.

Kasparov is a few notches higher...
by shatadip som on Dec 19, 2007 12:23 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Anand had always given tough competition to Kasparov...he was the king in speed chess even in Kasparov's presence.

However no one can deny that the latter was the undisputed King when he was playing.

Anand always had problems in realizing a winning position and while he technically equal, tactically Kasparov was much ahead.

Anand is more hard working and Kasparov has more natural talent.

quiet opposite actually... Anand was naturally goo at it while kasparov was produced by strong Russian chess scene. I wish anand was more hard working, he would have toppled Kaspy in WTC match itself.

That's what I call guts, Vishy knows how good Kasparov is, but still is humble to ask him for a match. as he doesnot prefer sitting on the throne and warming it. He enjoys his games. I Wish him all the Best

Gary is busy with politics and probably does Not think about chess anymore... he was in prison in for few days recently... he is not in an ideal situation anymore to play chess as his interest has changed.... So, though I appreciate Anand's guts, even if anand wins, it might not make him the best ever...

It seems you are out to degrade Anand. No doubt that Kasparov is a super class player but Anand has won more titles than him. It could be argued that he has won them in Kasparov's absence but he has won many in his presence too. And Anand is playing for a long time now and he is a gem of India and all indians should support him in stead you showing your tipical mentality.

You are right Khali. Obviously Anand feels that since Kasparov is distracted by his other pastimes he is a easy opponent to get past. Kasparov in his prime was the best and will always be the best. Anand should concentrate in beating the current crop of players.

he did lose eventually to kramnik a good seven years ago. so what's the guarantee he is the champion now?

"being distracted by past times" is a joke for grown up adults. a 40 yr old man is expected to handle problems more severe than distractions!
