Hype
by India on Aug 18, 2007 10:49 AM  Permalink

Let Sridhar win some tournaments a few times consistently, then you all can put him on the moon. As of now Sridhar has done nothing other than beat couple of good players. What is so big about that? Even Sania Mirza has done that. We don't see China and Indonesia bragging about their players inspite of them winning the major titles most of the time.

Good game Anup, little unlucky!
by Suresh Vijayan on Aug 17, 2007 09:32 PM  Permalink

Hey,

I saw the full match live in CCTV5 in China, Anup played very well, he was just to clinch the first game, well.. its part of the game, he lost.

The second game, he had given-up even before the start, but the game played by Anup is so amazing, he made Lin Dan sweat for his first game, it wasn't a cake walk for Lin.

If Anup need to beat Lin or Bao, our Sports minister must look deep and provide Infra and support to Anup... If he wants to be No. 1 he should avoid Media (Real culprits), rather concentrate on his game and his contribution to the sport he have choosen.

Anup could be a potential medal winner in Beijing 2008 for India, look forward to see you in Beijing Anup.

All the best Anup.

Suresh
Nanjing, China.

Its not giantkilling if he can repeat
by Rakesh Narayan on Aug 17, 2007 07:58 PM  Permalink

Anup should just think he can do it and grow from here and be a consistent challenge. If you can beat 1 ranked player it can be a fluke , but doing it 2 times and playing so hard in the first set against the World no 1 surely indicates this guy has no shortage of talent. Just dont lose your way son and grow into a top notch player someday soon. I hate it when people use any sporting acheivement in other sports to denigrate cricket. Cricket is what NFL is to US or soccer is to UK and Europe, however bad the teams perform it will be the number 1 sport. I think the game is naturally suited to most Indians cos it invovles a lot of thought and skill in addition to the athleticism. But we can always develop other sports to be a close no 2 like baseball and basketball are in the US.

totally incorrect facts ....... prakash was ranked 1 in the world for quite some time and gopichand won more than one international tournament ... it is not just these 2 ... even syed modi and vimal kumar won couple of international tournaments ....

all aside, sridhar's feat is commendable

When was the last time binish mathew won anything? Look at gopichand's doemstic record. And even international record. And coming to Saina, she is just 17/18 yrs old and she already is recognised as one of most talented players anywhere.
So where does the word "overhype" come from? Gopi had an injury ridden career.
Coming to comments about not reaching indonesian/ chinese levels, compare their facilities, support system and then compare results.

what do u mean by no sponsors pls ....indian cricket team was ranked 8th in WC ...and there are only 9 teams who play some good cricket ...

Sania, Saina and Anup are not hype ...they are among top 50 when at their level this game is played by more than thousand persons at a high level

give other players their due ...and if can't give sponsorship then at least respect them for what they achieve ...if u wd hav played any of this game, then u wd know the effort put by these players

so pls shut up and let us enjoy the great feat achieved by Anup

so many years passed ...inspite of all the hyped players like sachin and saurav, we never won WC ...when there is so much promotion of cricket ...why don't u go and tell those sponsors not to go to them, when they can't enter into the last eight in last WC ...now they are beating depleted English side with the help of nature god and lowly scots

stupid do u want me to give u a count of how many tournaments sachin has single handedly won for india? leave world cup is that the only tournament in the world. when have sania, saina or anup even won a single tournament? don't even compare them with an icon like sachin who is inspiration to millions in his generation not only as a cricketer but a true and humble sportsman. heck, even if anup is asked who he admires, he will have sachin in his mind.

its not me but u who needs to shut up coz u don't understand a thing abt not only cricket but sports in general.

Overhype didnot do any harm to Sania.
She could achieve what other Indians cudnt acheive in international sports. U may name Pullela Gopichand who was overhyped and killed my media.

It is indeed a great performance by Shridhar, let's hope his career will not follow the path of Sania Mirza.

Sridhar , donot be a just "Sensation" like Mirza , be a real gem.

Hope media will give rest to Sachin Dhoni , Amitabh , Khans , etc and give due weightage to this news

Ur comments are overdozed with regional sentiments. What do u mean by "let's hope his career will not follow the path of Sania Mirza"
Tennis is definitely a much popular game than Badminton across the globe and she stands on 29th. Sunder Raj..are u a Rajni fan ? seems like so in ur words

Meaning is clear Concentrate on Game, Not involve yourself in any controversy and above all Be consistence in performance and improve it day by day. Where is regionalism in this matter?

Now apply these parameters on Sania and see the difference. Apply same parameters to Prakash and you will realized that Sridhar has no choice but to follow his path. ( Now don%u2019t ask %u201Cwho is Prakash %u201C and revel your IQ).

Sania%u2019s 29th rank doesnot matter at all.She cannot reach to 3rd or 4th round of any Major tournament. She has yet to overcome her very basic level mistakes which are very much unavoidable. When she learn to overcome , by the time she will be out from International tennis circuit.
