WHY
by Harsh on Nov 10, 2006 09:46 PM  Permalink

WHY is Rediff so interested in generating fruitless discussions that always lead to arguments on religion, faith and communalism?
WHY is everyone who participates in these discussions NOT understand that it is not solving anything? It is just the cheap kind of gossip/tea-time slander that is leading the country to the pits.
WHY are educated men and women, boys and girls reacting in such a way? Most of the people reading these articles and comments have received a certain extent of liberal education. I agree that many of us have been touched directly or indirectly by this violence that never seems to end. And it is eating us from within as a nation. But I would think that this education and some broadminded tolerance would have changed the outlook of at least the youth of this country. It is pathetic. Really, it is.
I am a Hindu by birth (though I don't believe nor follow a religion). Most of my best friends have been Muslim. And I am sure most of the people writing poison here will find the same for themselves. Then WHY? WHY do we make sweeping generalizations with terms like "Muslim", "Hindu", "Terrorists"?

Dear Kumar,

Stone is always thrown at the fruit that is ripe and tasty to eat. It is same in the case of relegion. Islam as you might be knowing is relatively young relegion in its present form after Prophet Mohammed. It just started in a small place in Saudi Arabia and has spread to the whole world within 1500 years. But other relegions though have been for many more centuries have not attained the same growth as Islam has attained. So people of other relegious faith attack Islam. When an individuals relegion is attacked he does not keep quite and starts to fight against the oppression which is the real cause of Jehad which you can see in various forms as seen in Afghanistan,Kashmir, Iraq, Palestine etc

Unwanted Controversy
by viji on Nov 10, 2006 09:02 PM  Permalink

For God's sake,It doesn't matter what any one wear's.
Would you look at some other muslim women and create a contoversy like this if it wasn't Sania Mirza. You have a problem when she wears sports skirt and now when she wears a hijab.Religion is personal ,we all have the right to practice it the way we want.

You have a responsibility towards the society as a public website,rediff...Plz do not make an issue of nothing .you are making people fight for no reason.Thats what politicians do...you don't have to do it as well.

Why the arguments?
by Nid on Nov 10, 2006 08:58 PM  Permalink

What is the big discussion about all this?

Isn't it a feature that rediff is having to feature sports stars spotted by common people?

Sania is rarely seen in this kind of traditional dress, so the heading was such. Why the big fight over this? Noone is disrespecting the religion here, Burkha is as much an Indian dress.

i am all for peace and harmony between all of us indians.cant we live and let live?
