What Are We Fighting For??
by Contractor on Dec 23, 2007 06:18 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The word Hindu is not a religious word. It is secular in origin. It is derived from the word Sindhu, which is the name of a major river that flows in the northwestern region of the Indian subcontinent. The ancient Greeks and Armenians used to refer the people living beyond the river Sindhu as Hindus and gradually the name struck. When the Muslims came to the sub continent they called the people living in the region as Hindustanis to distinguish them from the foreign Muslims. Subsequently when the British established their rule, they started calling the local religions collectively under the name of Hinduism.

It is interesting to note that the word is neither Sanskrit nor Dravidian and did not originate in India. It was not used by Indians in their descriptions or writings till the 17th century. If we go by the original definition of the word Hindu, any one who lives in the subcontinent is a Hindu and whatever religion he or she practices is Hinduism. The word Hindu is a secular word and literally translated it means Indian and the word Hinduism denotes any religion or religions that are practiced by the multitude of people living in the land beyond the river Indus.

So what is the fight for

Guys,
Hinduism is a phenomenon which is appreciated by everybody in this world. We are contemporary, we hve no bindings abt any particular form of worhsip or going to the temple..Everyone is free ..

All of us should forget abt religion and work for development of the country. As minorities Christians and muslims have always been accepted by hindus in this nation.

Let's live together in peace and elect good leaders who can work for the nation honestly..

Only in India
by Patriot on Dec 23, 2007 06:18 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

? India is constitutionally secular while majority of political parties are based on religion and openly propagate religious and caste hatred.
? Even after having enough evidence about number of minorities%u2019 killings, central agencies do not take action against Fundamentalists.
? Minorities are falsely implicated by the central and state agencies and killed or jailed indefinitely.
? We have mass murder implicated politicians re-elected and governing the states.
? Election commission does not have any teeth to implement the constitution.
? Elections are run based on religion, caste and creed rather than development.
? Minorities are marginalized in India, while we complain to other countries regarding their minorities%u2019 treatment.
? Majority fundamentalists are allowed to arm and spread violence against minorities while India proclaims to the world that we are secular democratic country.

I do not agree to your comments. All the big countries have their challenges. Most of the problem in India is brought up because of unbalanced appeasement to minorities I have seen. In India, minorities are allowed to raise their voice. In other countries except countries like USA, outside world does not even know that they are being ill-treated. It is infact more unfair than you can ever think. Do you know how Saddam and his sons treated the other sects of muslims in his country? Make sure your source of book/TV channel is right. You will get more information. I am proud to be in such a country where everybody is respected (to great extend).

Truest Indian,

I certainly tell that you are not a truest Indian. Because you do not know Gujarati.
Gujarati are enterpeuner, friendly, accomodative, tolerant,God fear, likeable, thust worthy.
What you know is staged, lied, exggerrated news from Sonia. And obviously you have not taken time to see Gujarat and know people.

I agree, Mr. Patel. I am not Gujrati. But I respect their entrepreneurial capabilities. If there were couple of more states like Gujrat, Punjab, our country would have made more progress.

Modi has won election on the results he has shown in development of the state and the welfare of its citizens. Good governance is also one of the factor. Now-a-days people can't be fooled as congress used to think before.Any political party has to deliver and has to hve a good leadership for which congress has failed in Gujrat.

by Krishna on Dec 23, 2007 06:14 PM  Permalink

Gujarati ppl have proven that the DIVIDE AND RULE policy policy of Congress (Which they inherited from British) was to be thrown into dust-bin. The great people of Gujarat have shown in clear cut way that they vote for development and state/country, and not for caste based divisions. Five decades of Congress divisive pseudo secularism has been thrown out (OMG, they even tried to divide Modi from BJP...Their mantra "Modi win then BJP looses"...Arre bhai, if you are so worried about BJP, why don't you correct your divisive policies and join BJP? Madame and Putr, You have a long way to go before succeeding in fooling people of India! We Indians will never forgive you for joining hands with CPI-M (Chineese Patrons of India - Morons).
We will realize Gandhiji's dream of United, Strong, peaceful Bharat !
