N-deal... why?
by Kes Som on May 31, 2008 09:03 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The way US has been putting pressure on India to sign the "deal", it is clear that their intention is to cap India's strategic capability.

One doesnt need to read a word from the agreement's text. The "undue haste" being shown by the US is sufficient signal that we need to guard against this deal.

Good Sense Must Prevail

Pranab Mukherjee is a very capable man. People in the defence enclosure says that he acted very efficiently while running that ministry. The only plausible reason for his shifting may be to deal with a very complex foreign policy dynamics that India needs to cruise along. The fundamental tenet of any foreign policy dictum is to look after perpetual interest and not consistent bon homie with any particular blocs etc. The strategic leverage that India can achieve through a declining western power can not be accomplished in tying a nuptial knot with any ascending power, neither one should not confront with an emboldened growing strength.I failed to understand the logic of the main opposing force of the deal the left, more so, in the face of an 123 agreement between Russia and US where the beneficiary is China which gets enriched uranium owing to the terms and conditions of the aforesaid agreement. Now, why the hell India should not capitalize that strategic advantage? This is brazen political expediency. This happens when NATION'S AGENDA IS HIJACKED BY PERSONAL GRATIFICATIONS GIVEN AN IDEOLOGICAL TWIST. No one is a Messiah, no country is, what remains constant is PERPETUAL NATIONAL INTEREST. The whole nuclear establishment has supported the deal even Dr. Kalam endorsed it, I THINK, COME WHAT MAY CONGRESS SHOULD GO AHEAD WITH THE DEAL, IN THE AFTERMATH OF A HUNG PARLIAMENT LEFT WILL BE LEFT WITH NO OPTION BUT TO SUPPORT A CONGRESS LED GOVT. THIS IMAGE CHANGE WILL HELP CONGRESS.

these commies die for chinese cause. Whereas china treats these indian commies nothing more than their traitors. if commies are so supportive for china, why can't they influence the china to remove their troops from the north east regions.

These indian commies are joke - they threatened to withdraw support if the olympic torch is not passed safely. The same commies are mum when china blocked the Hindu pilgrims.

People wake up - time to think and vote out these pseudo forces.

Your sympathy for Mukherjee and the Congress Party as a whole is a moot force driving you to support the Deal. But its not a simple arithmatic. Ultimately India will have to dismantle her nuclear arsenals. Us will no be able to force it on China. USA was mute to Tibet being swallowed by China. CIA dropped the plan of a counter-coup. China has a regimented political structure of military dictatorship of some sorts. To compare India with China is silly. However India is a vascillating nation and unfocussed on foreign issues. India all along mixed economics and foreign affairs with domestic vote bank politics and never really opend out to Israel and the USA.

Feinstein & Lugar: NYT Op Ed Gagged By Iran Attack Plan

by Richard Volaar
in Op-Ed News

According to a foreign news report, Senators Feinstein and Lugar responded in horror at the Bush Administration's plans to attack, by the end of this coming August, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds force, a 90,000 strong contingent declared by the US Senate to be a "terrorist organization," in September, 2007. So outraged were the Senators that they were to release, "within days," twin public op-eds to the New York Times.

A half dozen Lance missiles tipped with neutron bombs would incinerate this force, leaving Iran with a fighting force of only 410,000 well-trained, but untested, troops ready to pour across the border into Iraq. Perhaps the consequences to the world and the US economy was of some concern to these Senators, but, to date, the promised op-eds of these Senators have yet to appear in the New York Times.

Just to make life more difficult for insane people, could someone please investigate "new Moon" occurrences over Iran between now and the end of August – these would be the most likely times to launch these attacks against Iran.

I'm withholding public references to my sources on this particular story because it is becoming crystal clear that a lot of the "false starts" on the neo-conservative's diabolical plans have been used to quash lines of communication across all media. But I do have them and I will release them to at my discretion.

Nuclear fuel cannot be a substitute for oil based power in current times. India needs to be able to bargain effectively(through all means and politicking) and buy big oil-fields prudently from time to time like china, west does. Oil barrel prices will hit 200$ and 300$ in next few years. Forget economic growth, India will be a done case and relegated to a slave nation again if it can't think and act smart in dealing with russia, middle east.

US will bomb Iran to stone age. Once Iran is tackled, peace and quiet will prevail all over Middle East. US will establish democracy in all arab contries. All ignorance and hatred will be erased from the surface of the earth. We must be allied with USA to reap the benefit. We should offer to nuke Iran since it is continuing bomb building to destroy Israel. Do not talk about buying oil and gas from them. Their days are numbered.

USA doesn't think about India as much as you do about that country. It wouldn't think twice about bombing India to stone age if it comes in it's way or putting it to untold miseries had it got the coveted oil resources like middle-east. India has to realize that it has got no friends in this world; only partners, that too on a priority and need basis.

Oil is already down from its peak and will go back to 30 to 50 dollar range. Your assertion of $300 oil is ridiculous. US will fix it if it hurts them.

oil prices doubled in less than two years. There is no reason to believe it will not double again, and quadruple in next few years if the OPEC desires so. USA can afford it, because it sits on Iraq's oil reserves and controls the flow of oil in persian gulf. Indian exchequer is already heavily burdened with the soaring oil prices.

And US has also its own Domestic oil reservs. It also owns several unexplored Alaskan Oil reserves. So,in nutshell high oil prices don't hurt them.

It would console India to a great extent if the oil prices dropped to the extent you mention. But seems less likely according to several expert predictions. Maybe it has to do with wider geopolitical games that has usa, china, russia and middle-east involved. India suffers in the process.

Mr.Gopal very very good thinking and argument.Your last sentence "Maybe it has to do with wider geopolitical games that has usa, china, russia and middle-east involved. India suffers in the process." sums up the present situation.See how Australia supplies uranium to China and not to India. I only hope and prey that our stategic thinkers/foreign policy planners keep their eyes open.I should not say this but general perception is that officials Have developed a bias towards US.

As luck would have it, US would have bombed the whole Middle East.Instead of bombing Iran, it is trying to hide behind India and push the sheep westward. You won't have Khalistan by bombing Iran.
